Great tip.....never stop learning ! Love shooting traditional!!! You should do one on arrow tuning if you haven’t already. My JD Berry Morningstar is my favorite of the month right now.
Howard’s hand never ended up behind his head either. You are ‘throwing’ your release hand. Howard anchored the base of his thumb at his jawbone and that is where it stayed until his arrow arrived where he sent it.
I'm leaning towards the Shrew Classic Hunter. That is a hybrid longbow and it just shoot great. It's short and compact so I can get around in the woods with no issues. The handle fits my hand like a glove and it's just a pleasure to shoot.
If you can shoot consistently do it. I’ve seen lots of folks with a static release shoot really well. It’s all about have a consistent repeatable shot cycle.
Great video with great advice. I'm new to traditional archery, but not archery. Do we have any books or any video of any of the greats explaining the fundamentals of traditional shooting or their personal techniques? I may be asking a dumb question, but from the videos that I have seen all I have seen is some great trophy hunts or trick shooting-nothing instructional.
For me, split fingers with a glove is comfortable and shoots well. I tried 3 under once out of curiosity. It was very uncomfortable and I did not shoot well like that. Wont do it again. Howard was right.
@@Wingman115 currently I shoot a 35# beginners bow, and also compound bows with release. I tend to jerk my bow arm down as I shoot the recurve, Have done so for many years. See, when I grow up in hungary during the 80-es , there was no archery clubs, nor information of any kind how to shoot bows. I carved my own bows as best as i could and shot them the same. This is a bad habit from that ancient time. Later when I could afford I bought proper bows, also compounds and got good with the comp but not with trad bows. I tend to see the same thing on many fellow trad archers , they struggle with bad form while spending money on fenomenal bows , whom they shoot poorly,
@@elgecske Easy habit to break. Start what’s called blind bale shooting. Get up close to a target close your eyes and focus on the shot cycle. If you do that enough you will reprogram you mind to leave the arm up and have great follow through. Your never to old to relearn stuff. We just have to make the choice to.
I'm going to try shooting baring my teeth like you to see if that improves my groups 😂🆗 p.s. A bit of AUSSIE🦘HUMOR. All the best, from Down-Under in 2021
As a new trad archer... drives me nuts seeing the debate between split 3 fingers vs three under. Hill and Ferguson are split finger. All competitors do three under. Many pro you tubers do three under, but many pro you tubers do 3under also.... ugh.

GREAT tips! LOVED the thumb/pinky!!!! Appreciate the vid.
Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the tips , good points about not changing too much I love those Black Eagle arrows , I shoot the Vintage , they're awesome !!
I have the same arrows, they're pretty great!

Nice vid, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the support my friend.
Great pointers, thank you

Good video my friend. Two great underlying tips you mentioned. Don't change too many things at once, and slow down. Thanks for sharing. Regards
Your welcome Scott. Thanks for taking the time to watch the video.
Some great advice here. I have a book by that guy, the dude who made my long bow sent it to me. What is YOUR personal favorite bow and why?

@@Wingman115 please compare the classic hunter to the bear mag
What happens if your right-hand stays stationary after your release, rather than ending up behind your head after the release
?

What bow you got there?

Search for John Schulz there is a four part video of how he shoots like Howard hill taught him.
@@Wingman115 Thank you. I will follow up with that:-)

Just found your channel. Hi from Australia. Thanks for the vid mate
Thank you much appreciated.
I am proud of my self at 17 yards I did not miss a 22 inches target. my first two days.
Good stuff. Keep shooting.
Aiming, not instinctive. John Schultz film is still one of the best
I don't like 3 fingers under. My bow rattles. Plus its 100% aiming. Why not then just put a sight on the bow?
You know if you keep your teeth tight together when you shoot it adds more consistency and will shrink your groups?
👍🏻👊🏻
Man your bow arm is rock solid!😊
Thanks for watching.
Form looks good, brother. We'll have to get together real soon and fling some arrows.
For sure.

I love your bow. What is it?
Shrew Classic Hunter.
cant the bow try diff finger tabs that howard used
Those are some fancy arrows you make those??
40 years ago, had you read ‘The Archers Bible’ by Fred you’d have learned this then
would love to have such a steady bow arm !
What pound bow do you shoot? You may have to come down in poundage a bit to get a better draw and release.

It works when bear hunting like Davey Crockett. He grinned a bear to death.
You ever watch Schultz vdo
Yes great videos.
Check out Tom Clum's, Solid archery mechanics course. You wont regret it & it will definitely make anyone a better shot.
Tom is a great shot as well. He is a outstanding instructor.

Do what feels good and allows you to shoot your best shot.
Nicht schlecht aber Howard Hill hat mediterran gegriffen...und nicht 3 under....und er hatte n extrem stabielen Ankerpunkt😅
Hill and Schulz would have nothing to do with 3 Under draw. If you want to be a Weeny, use a mechanical release.
