    This tutorial is top notch. I have probably watched this a dozen times now in preparation for painting my White Scars army, which includes Outriders and a Primaris Chaplain on Bike. The scheme is so simple, yet the technique allows for so much nuanced application, as seen in the video. You guys have finally convinced me to pick up some Tamiya thinner and at least two colors. Many thanks for sharing this with the world!

      How did you get on? I’m thinking of doing the same.

    • @endlessfight
      @endlessfight 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Maximussb This is one of my fundamental techniques and the recipe is second nature now. I have about 4k points of Horus Heresy World Eaters fully painted using this technique with Tamiya paints for base coats. I was happily chugging away at my White Scars army when they released Heresy 2.0 and I just haven’t touched them since 😅

      @@endlessfightamazing thank you! Do you run around 20 PSI? I assume the people moaning about speckling have the PSI too high for such a thin mixture?

    • @endlessfight
      @endlessfight 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Maximussb it’s actually counter-intuitive and I struggled with this for quite a while… I run around 28-30 PSI and experience many problems when I drop down towards the 20 range. Dry tip is natural with many white and lighter paints and swiping the paint away often is just part of life there. If you manage the paint buildup on the tip, a higher PSI mixes the paint better and actually facilitates thinner and smoother blends without clogging and speckling. I’m not an expert and there are surely cases where this is not true, but with this paint brand and this technique… I don’t deviate from ~28 PSI.

    Absolutely Brilliant - this is the video that finally convinced me I needed to buy an airbrush. I will be looking for CoP training classes for sure! I also now realise that I have to varnish my models using these techniques (as doing with normal brush is a pain). Couple of noob questions: 1. What varnishes did you use, and how/what did you thin them. 2. What PSI do you normally paint at?

    • @cultofpaint
      @cultofpaint  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We used Vallejo polyurethane gloss and AK interactive ultra matte. You can use your normal acrylic airbrush thinner to thin them. We spray around 20psi here.

My initial thought was tamiya dark copper since that has the same value as the ocean gray at least from what I can tell followed by maybe deck tan but I’m not sure. Oh I wanted to ask, why do you prefer the iron warriors silver over lead belcher? It looks almost exactly the same shade.

      It's a little darker. When you're leadbelcher runs out maybe pick up a pot and try it?

    Superb job! On your airbrush, it looks like your just pumping the trigger and not even pulling back. Is that just from having a top of the line airbrush or an adjustment of sorts? I’m new to the airbrush and just have a cheapy masters to start off. It seems I really have to pull the trigger back to get a fine spray and just a bit further the paint gushes out :(

      It is a fantastic quality airbrush. Both our signature Evolution and Infinity have great levels of control/feedback.

    Great video! However, I'm having issues with white paint through my airbrush (Iwata HP-CS). It is looking very speckled when applied to a model. This does not occur with any other paint I use and I have ruled out any technical reason (thinning, pressure, distance, clogging, etc). I was hoping you might be able to share your tips for achieving such a smooth and properly atomized white layer through your airbrush.

    Love the work you put in, making it look so easy! Question: (i'm a new guy in painting/airbrushing) how do you make up the mistakes when like doing the recesses and accidently get a bit on the surface, do you need to start over everything or?

    • @cultofpaint
      @cultofpaint  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! If you are quick you can just remove with your finger or a Qtip. If you have varnished underneath then it is even easier to remove, that is one of the benefits.

    What angle are you spraying in terms of the airbrush to the armour panels? They look fantastic!

    • @cultofpaint
      @cultofpaint  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Angle of the brush stays pretty much consistent, the key is moving the model.

    How do you get such a smooth coat with ulthuan grey? What is your mix to thinner? And also are you using Ulthuan grey standard or air paint? Incredible job on this guy

    How would you approach this with brushes to get simillar effect?

    • @cultofpaint
      @cultofpaint  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We shall do a brush painting white video at some point. Tamiyas do not brush on well. It is hard to get a smooth finish with white on a large surface just using a hairy brush. You may be better to aerosol can spray white and then shade with a brush.

      Nothing comes close to the Tamiyas, but vallejo and AK both do decent whites.

    This is ace! I used the recipe for painting my statues from a kill team scenery set I just picked up.
    Have a question though-did you paint the tyres? I mean, did you do any highlighting similar to the other black areas of the model, or just add the wash? And if it were a red martian base, what could be a good wash colour for that? Thanks Andy

    • @cultofpaint
      @cultofpaint  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just washed, the dust would give them a matte finish so we can save time on highlights. S75 Kalahari Orange or a pigment wash for martian.
