Alright guys, some follow-up thoughts. Firstly, it's great to hear the free fly was cancelled because, if nothing else, it shows that CIG are listening and more focused than ever. It was the right decision. That said, what I wanted to talk about in this video is how strange it is to see CIG basically contradict its own marketing-“playable now.” User Grimtoc on Spectrum put it best: "All of these TH-cam videos saying 'playable now' are 100% contradictory to this post basically saying everything is broken. 1. Starting the game - Load Times and Initial Load 2. Finally loading in - Character Stowing and Repair 3. Getting to your ship - Elevator in the Room 4. Getting out with your ship - Hangar Woes 5. Getting places in your ship - Quantum Travel and Starmap 6. Doing things in or out of your ship - Mission Issues 7. Finally finding something to do - Additional Fixes 8. Keeping what you find - LTP and Keeping What You Earn" I really hope all the hard work from CIG starts to shine again and that they can deliver updates they’re happy with. When Star Citizen works, it’s like nothing else-but right now, it’s just not where it needs to be. That said, it’s great to hear that CIG knows this, is focused, and is listening.
Last night not even the hospital doors were working in orison. People were just stuck in there. Then I fell through the shuttle and lost all the event gear that I got for buying the game. Which means I was stuck in the hospital too.
Well I have a couple of friends that try to play during the free fry and they were excited to try it out again that's a bummer but I agree with cig you can't have people free flying in the game's messed up so yeah remove. It for now
it silly to have the same issues patch after patch, just getting to your hangar is a fight in itself... its good they cancelled free fly as not only does that generally kill the game for the general public it just gives a terrible experience for people trying sc. rushing 4.0.1 to get stuff for red festival in back fired so hard...
They had no choice the game is totally broken its so bad i don't think they can fix it, without going back serval patches probably removing server meshing as it clearly don't work
It is a great game not really a game but a game I don't regret backing I haven't played much in a good bit because it has been pretty fought and I can't get friends to play and I've tried to play 4.0.01 and it's been rough rough. But I feel like the devs need to try playing on the servers everyone else does instead of whatever internal network they have that they use . But if I had to guess they either lie out both sides of their mouths or they just never actually play their game with the plebs.
@@Skooms_Twitch @Skooms_Twitch The developers absolutely could dedicate more resources to bug fixing but then what feature are we willing to have delayed? There is only a finite amount of resources the developer has and in my opinion they don't have enough developers for the scope of a game like Star Citizen, when you consider that Red Dead Redemption 2 had 1600 developers for a much smaller scoped game. I have no idea if the developers of this game are doing a good or bad job- all I know is they are at least trying to make something different from other games.
@ That is the point. Stability and bug fixing. I just woulove to have yearly patches as they polish the current patch. Give the devs to get bugless features and a stable game
@@gamechanger2473 They are not making something different games have already done what SC is trying to do lol. We don't care about content when the current content don't even work. i could carless if this game had 1 ship and 1 mission but it worked. You cant get 700 million put out more content when the base core game is in the same state it was 12 years ago. Everyone knows that has been following this game what they are doing. The put out broken patches to make people come back to buy ships irl without really fixing shit they are manipulators. Its the same like every trash game being made now. Focus all assets on selling shit to make money and leave the core game broken to milk people and give cope. There is no excuse for this shit people have a right to be pissed. I mean After this new patch some of the biggest oqs said they are 100% done with this game now. I never seen a game put out a patch saying they fixed many bugs and yet not one got fixed like what ?
yeah .. and highlighting to the outside world how broken everything currently is really is not helping much .. don't talk about being an advertisement "for" the game rather than against.
@@ErikLiberty Yeah the gold old saviour server meshing ^^ It really impressed me alot, by changing absolutely nothing. Now we have 30 server fps while the world is acting as if its still at 3-5 fps and they obviously started far later with the dev of it than what was communicated all those years ago. But yeah, now we need dynamic server meshing to improve thing ^^ which will then lead to the exact same excuse for the next technology. THE CODE IS SHEIT, thats the problem...
10 year progress has been huge! To go back 10 years, look at the original Imagine Star Citizen video. Almost everything there was a dream. The original video showed off 63 items, we now have 60 of them. To take people back, the official video was released Dec. 19th 2014: * Arena Commander 1.0 was just released. * 2.0 was still a year out. There was no persistent universe. * There was no social module. That was released 8 months later (Alpha 1.2) * There were no planets. Star Citizen now has 32 worlds to explore now. That's 2 star systems, 10 planets, 22 moons. While the planets are smaller than real life, they're still 1.5 times the size of the United States. That's 109 times bigger than England. And moons are about 8.5 times the size of England, (about 1.6 times the size of Texas) * We had the hangar module, and Arena Commander. That's it. You couldn't take off from the hangar. You just sorta sat in your ship and make pew pew sounds. * There were 0 space stations you could explore. Now, we have 85 of them. * The max player count back then 8 players per instance. Now we have 600 player counts, and 2,000 player counts in testing. * The maximum map size was 8 cubic kilometers. Now, with the 2 systems, it's 1,972,092,951,590,146,400,000 (1.97 sextillion km³, according to ChatGPT) * The game had 3 points of interest (hangar, 2 AC maps). As of 4.0, it currently has 1,626 points of interest (POIs) to explore. The original Kickstarter amount was only for 90 in 100 star systems. Genesis will allow for 4,000+ per planet. * There were no careers. Now we having mining, salvaging, scavenging, bounty hunting, mercenary, cargo hauling, smuggling, medical, etc. * There were no working components, no creatures, no careers, no FPS combat, no missions, no women characters, no customizable clothing, no dynamic events, no outposts, no caves, no landing zones, no capital ships, and there wasn't a hundreds of ships to fly. There was just 9 ships (only 5 unique hulls) Things have come farther than they give them credit for. Server meshing and other core tech was always the big technical hurdle that delayed things.
@@ErikLiberty Facts, people don't look back but they are not wrong either, They deserver to be angry, who is not angry when you can't even enter in the game. ( But those who are toxic/rage baiting don't deserve atention in my opinion, is fine to criticize but not hate the devs or other players.). Now as a old player I just watch how the things go and I play other games. If next patches are at least in a decent state I will play again, I don't understand how people torture themselfs trying to play with a broken patch and after that they go on spectrum and write a novel with why the game is in a broken state.
Well, it's still in alpha stage. Not defending here, just pure facts. Alpha is basically getting the game going, creating the basic tools to create the game and content, developing the actual systems behind it etc. Star Citizen is - from a developing side - where the GTA 6 leaks were some time ago. USUALLY you would never see this kind of game we have right now, as it would be developed in way worse visuals etc. But the SC funding method forces them to have a public, somewhat playable game. This is also part of the reason, why it takes so long to finish. Yes, they had some management issues in the past and CR being to much focused on micromanagement at first, but creating this kind of dual system - somewhat playable, looking nice etc. - is also one of the reasons it takes so long. If they would shut down everything, get the whole funding and only work at the game, without need for the public to invest or play, they would be moving much faster. Also - Beta stage is, where the polishing comes in. So system fine tuning, creating content with the tools you build in alpha, fixing bugs, balancing etc. That's when the gameplay you need gets actually made. SC will start to make sense to play more seriously as soon, as we can simply log out and still find out shit when we log in again.
Imagine waiting actual seasons and this game is still in development. My kid's kids "might" get to play full release and let me know how it is when they see me in in the afterlife.
Progress has been slow because they are simultaneously making two of the first ever AAAA games ever made, ones that no publisher would ever greenlight as they are so ambitious, and most of CIG's effort has been behind the scenes working on Squadron 42. For perspective, it took the largest gaming company 11 years to make Diablo 3, a top-down game with no major technological breakthroughs like server meshing which Star Citizen now has.
@@ErikLiberty Thank you. People here have absolutely no perspective whatsoever. CIG is R&D'ing groundbreaking new tech and no one seems to understand that.
@@ErikLiberty Thnx for the introspect. Dont get me wrong though, I LOVE everything about this game and would love to dive headfirst into it. Just been holding myself back with all the negative feedback about how much ppl gave to this game and it still being in alpha. At any point RSI could take the millions he's swimming in, and disappear. IDK, maybe he's not that guy but yeah, game keeps me lurking nonetheless.
I'm glad the overall feel of the community has shifted to be putting more pressure on them to get their **** together. We all love this game and can't wait for it, but jesus dude. They need to get stuff done now
What an idiotic comment. You want them to get stuff done but you want them to bug fix? You can't have both. And if you waste time fixing bugs before implementing features then you won't get those features anytime soon. You people talk out of both sides of your moth.
@@SanDukey The only people who thikn that are the people who hate the project. CIG is breaking funding records since December, and just deployed server meshing -- anyone who doesn't appreciate that was never a fan of the project to begin with.
Yep, and people still routinely fall through the surface of planets. But, can you blame them? For years they have promised pie in the sky while delivering a buggy janky mess and the money kept rolling in. Why do anything different? Well, now they have to do things different, but it may be too late.
Seriously, not everything can be #1. Elevators and doors are the real #1. It's literally the FIRST thing users need to do when they log in. At this point this is seriously an "all hands on deck" sort of problem. The rest I'd say: #2 Not getting shard locked. This is simple. Make the character repair tool on the web site immediately remove your character from any server it's in, as long as you aren't in active combat. #3 Not falling through the planets. Also simple, when I'm on foot and my elevation goes below some threshold value like 1000m, I've fallen through the planet and should be repositioned to ground level. This could be done client-side! #4 Quantum failures #5 Cargo missions and cargo elevators
i came back to the game after fixing my pc for 2 weeks. spawned, fell though the elevator, respawned, woke up at hospital. went to the trains, fell though the train. restarted game, fell though the elevator.... its absolutely unplayable. it is really close to 3.18
I’m so glad that the larger creators are finally pushing back. For us who want to express concerns or do the same in spectrum, we’re met with nothing but deleted posts and bans for “misconduct.” I know a lot of people can be toxic in the chat lobbies, but it doesn’t matter, as any criticism towards CIG whether positive or negative is met with the same response. I was just put on a week long ban from spectrum for criticizing how it felt we had no answers, and how the priorities didn’t feel as if they were placed towards development . Glad I got a screen recording of the mass deletes and the bans handed out, because honestly at this point it’s ridiculous. If CIG wanted feedback they would quit banning anything that slightly affects the ego of a mod or a developer. I’m glad they announced the free fly wasn’t happening, and maybe we might start to move in a better direction, but at the end of day, we have to acknowledge that 4.0.1 launched to support a ship sale, and it’s fitting for the community to be in outrage now that the game is broken for the sake of marketing. I love this game, and I want to see it succeed, but me and many others are sick and tired of the empty promises and the way CIG has handled these situations.
They cannot "withstand lightning". They have a degree of resistance. Lightning can still knock out any of the equipment onboard and damage parts of the plane under certain circumstances. Besides that, I see where you are coming from but people have to stop whining about realism and immersion. Or do you think they should make SC characters have bladders and bowel movements, queues at the bathroom stalls, or even worse, an ingame DMV? At what point will whiney cunts be satisfied? Never. Because theyre whiney cunts.
We are not on earth here. Different planets might create different and way more potent storms. That won't simply create electricity, but also plasma or whatever. Slept too much in physics to know more about it. But basically, Jupiters storms go around for 400-700 km/h and more. Imagine a larger planet as earth with different position, atmosphere etc. On earth we could survive. But on another planet a thunderstorm like that might be deadly and overwhelm anything we know here.
Here's how I feel.. Once a year, we get two full days of the ultimate hype. Only to be followed by a patch that is far from ready to boost their financials before the end of the year. Then to be followed by weeks if not months of broken gameplay because the focus was on sales, not game development.. Thats how I feel.. I am so sick the shills arguing this idea that CIG needs multi-hundred dollar .jpg ship sales to keep the company afloat. I'm not saying you're wrong but what I am saying is CIG made their bed this way long ago. Funny thing is if you focus on and deliver a great product and this goes for any company, your happy customers will do the advertising for you. I happen to run a successful company.. Surprise surprise, it works.
HIGHLY underrated hot take. The last statement made is star citizens REAL bread and butter. The amount of people who buy this game because their friend (you or I) says its the greatest game they have ever played. So new customer gets on (it always winds up being a day where nothing is working) they see the state of the game and how unplayable it is with many work arounds and other things flat out being broken, and that is the last time they play. Now imagine a world where that new player brought in by a backer has a good playthrough experience their first time, and how many of THAT persons friends are going to hear about the experience and want to join also. Let us not forget the feeling that first week of playing star citizen. Now, pair that feeling, with a working, SEAMLESS experience.
i fully agree, the last patches felt like they are not doing sht, i started in SC around 2016 and loved the game, but its an underwhelming state the actual patches, they focus as you said in sales when they should fix everything to give us some actual servers yes its hard and all you want but they have tons of money and tech to improve, fixed game happy customer, happy customer spread the game to others and then more money
I hope they will come to a simplified model of gameplay and not save every thrown bottle of water on the server. That should help. In fact, I had a good game yesterday without a single log for 3 hours I was lucky with the server and everything worked fine. I'm more and more coming to the opinion that the problem is the servers and the amount of garbage content that they have to community because of the ambitions of Chris. Since today I could not play and 2 minutes without a cretic bug.... My reclaimer is just useless since I can't sell scrap
@@phoenixa-3127 Their 4.0 patch brought server meshing online, technology that fundamentally changes how large-scale multiplayer games operate, eliminating traditional server boundaries and paving the way for the persistent universe that was promised (If you think that many other games already have server meshing, I direct you to Grolo's video, "System Architect Talks Servers & Meshing in Ashes of Creation, Pax Dei, and Star Citizen")
Enough is enough with this game not functioning on a basic level, community is properly fed up now. The game MUST work well, like ALL missions MUST work, hangars MUST work, elevators MUST work. MAKE STAR CITIZEN GREAT :P
I think the environment is chilld right now because people are fed up with bugs not being fixed for years. They state they fixed 100's of bugs but they do not appear to be fixed
They literally just introduced server meshing in December. Are people only capable of establishing memories the length of a gold fish? They said it would be rough introducing GROUNDBREAKING NEW TECH!
@ It's manufacturered outrage. A bunch of the anti-SC crowd have been making countless threads upvoted on Spectrum/reddit with a lot of BS. Terada's post was absolute pure nonsense. They just released server meshing and he's complaining that CIG isn't living up to making the game more playable even though we're just completing January? Ridiculous. They were working all through the holidays and even through Christmas hotfixing the game, and instantly got to work on rolling out 4.0.1 and all people do is complain. Chris said they would use 2025 to FOCUS on stability, not that at the start of 2025 the gamne would be perfectly stable. There's a level of ignorance and puerility involved here from the community that simply cannot be measured. They are working towards stability -- they need time. They just introduced server meshing. But I agree that it's strange that people who clamoured so much that CIG would never release server meshing and that it was "Jesus tech" are now incessantly berating the company because it's going through a rough period after rolling out groundbreaking, industry changing technology. What exactly did people expect? It''s like everyone jumping on CIG's backs have the memory of gold fish. We're literally just two months into the release of server meshing. Expect it to have issues. It took them THREE months before 3.18 was even remotely playable.
@Billy-bc8pk To me it seems insane as well. Im trying to understand whats got into people. im totally with you, i know all these crucial details perspective. However, im not involved internally in the star citizen population, im just monitoring it methodically by updates, letters, and some critical reviewers in youtube. However, since im not involved, it is very odd that despite all the context you provided theres a wave of criticism like that, including people that are supportive (like ollie) which are supposed to know the context you mentioned. It seems somewhat insane how a statement was made publicly to focus on stability development structure in cig from now on, yet the players thinks it's their new idea to riot in demand for stability. The illogicality of haters is regular, however this current wave is very strange Since you are involved, i ask you to get informed. how is it that despite the context, even people who are knowledgeable and lifelong supporters are behaving irrationally negative suddenly? You say that nonesense was said on spectrum, vut isnt that a common event, nonsense? Pls explain whats going on, you know more then me
@@chronomaster5779 It's very disappointing indeed, and I agree. I think a lot of people jump on bandwagons without thinking, plus it's fuelled by rage-bait content creators. I don't see how people are saying it's "the worst Star Citizen has ever been" when there are so many people playing, shards are filled to the brim with queues on every region. Also, funding is WAY up coming off of December. So the silent majority is playing the game and funding the game, but there is a loud minority desperate to make the game look bad on reddit/spectrum/youtube. Basically because once CIG hits their stride, no other AAA game will be able to compete.
It's hard to believe that the game we have right now is ever going to be the game they're hyping. On the other hand, there have been many times I doubted they'd be able to get to where we are now. I think a massive bug hunt is in order prior to adding any new features (or new ships for sale). They also need to prioritize bringing in long-promised ships (Merchantman, Galaxy, etc.) and updating existing ships that people have already "paid for' rather than the "new, cool ship of the month" (Starlancer, Guardian, Paladin) train they've been riding. They're in a tough spot because the company's existence and the future development of the game requires a constant influx of new revenue but the base is starting to rebel against the marketing. I think they've over-extended themselves and over-promised due to marketing concerns and now find they've painted themselves into a corner. They need to re-solidify their base: QoL improvements, appreciation for those customers ("play-testers") who have stuck it out and championed the game for all these years in the face of the "it's a scam" contingent of the gaming community. When even the hardcore supporters who've been with them all along are starting to question their resolve and can't in good conscience recommend the game in its current state to new players, you've got a problem. Save the Cheerleaders, Save the Universe.
Olli, its true. It is a little cold right now, but with good reason. We all want the game to be stable and playable. The servers today - every single elevator, everywhere on any shard, every tram is NOT working. You just fall through them & cant even get to the hangar, because you fall through the planet - date: 01.02.2025 - the entire day is unplayable in patch 4.0.1 & the HOTFIX is not helping.... its the same there and on Live. I love this game and the community around it, i have not spent more than what i could afford. I critique a lot of poorly made decisions that CIG does, but i am in it for the long run. And i will be there to see it either succeed or fall. I also want the ability to leave shards quickly and join new ones ......
I had the same exact problem when I came back from work. The issue was that the Live branch got the Hotfix branch merged, but the Live branch had some other fixes even though the version number was the same (when I swapped over and verified the files, even though they were the same exact version I had to download about 4gb of stuff anyway). So I logged in on the Hotfix and same as you, 7 different servers across 4 different regions, all the elevators were bugged. I've asked in chat and some people were saying it's fine so I got confused - that's when I swapped over to the Live version, deleted shaders and verified the files. Lo and behold, all the elevators work now, I've tried multiple servers and haven't encountered a black hole elevator since - some of them still have misbehaving terminals but that's SC for you.
I heared about elevators but didnt have any issues with them for these lasr 3 days. Altough I seen people fall through tram floor that boarded with me. My guess is they didnt update to hotfix channel properly. Playing on eu/us servers all day, multiple shards.
Tbh every free fly is like this. They add a bunch of new content and broken systems so they can promote it. I dont know if you had them, but past few weeks Ive been getting bombarded with SC ads on TH-cam and other platforms. They must have spent MILLIONS on that ad campaign. Thinking its a good investment... Now they had to cancel the whole event... theyre finally waking up but I pray to God they stop letting the marketing department take charge in their roadmaps. It is SO OBVIOUS
LuL Olli living in his own little world getting hyped for Star Citizen again. I do think it's normal that people's interest will only be peaked for so long. We did Citizen Con and then it dragged on for a fair bit longer before we got 4.0 and while people may have been interested nobody wants to play knowing a wipe was around the corner. Everyone followed all the 4.0 testing, got to play in Pyro, went through the holidays, returned to work, and now interest is starting to dwindle and the poor state of the game is impossible to overlook. The game has been terrible for quite some time. We were just excited but you can't keep the excitement up forever and the honeymoon is over. 🤣
Star Citizen has reached the point where the lip service provided at CitizenCon and the Chairman's Letter will no longer cut it, even for long-time proponents of the project. The "temperature" of the project is near-freezing. The YT channel _Star Citizen WTF and Funny moments_ is now the actuality of time spent in the PU rather than being a spotlight of the occasional gaff during gameplay. It's a shame really, and I hope CIG is earnestly working to make it better. At least by canceling the free-fly for Lunar New Year they appear to have recognized that the current state of the game is a blazing dumpster fire.
I mean, we all have to remember this is 4.0, this is the first patch with ServerMeshing and they just put that thing to live. I know CIG was pretty optimistic that it would not be another 3.18 but we also know from 3.18 what can happen when a patch that changes a lot on the backend goes to live. I for one will not immediately panic but give CIG a bit of time to start working on fixes now that they have a SM Patch on live for the first time. (Also, never forget that they just got back from holiday and on top of fixing the patch currently, they also need to plan out development for this year INCLUDING development for SQ42 which I expect they want to pace in such a way that they can revel the release-date/window at CitCon this year and feel confident about it)
dont forget that they themselves also said that 4.0 would launch with MORE and they still ended up cutting features just for this dumpster fire of a preview release.
@a.j.6832 well, had they left those features in, this would have been so much worse. They probably did cut those because they wanted it to go "live" at the end of the year BUT it was also a way to keep bugs contained to the overhauled backend and not also introduce massive amounts of new bugs from new and pretty complex features (like engineering and fires)
@@a.j.6832 most of what was cut was entirely useless or unimportant things or were added in earlier anyways in 3.24.. so I have no complaints on what was cut since most of it you'd never notice or interreact with
I have ZERO sympathy for CIG at this point. No other business in the world plans its business for the new year IN THE NEW YEAR. You plan 25 in 24. I dont give a shit about Squadron42. I didnt pay for Squadron42. I never asked for Squadron42 and I'm getting a little sick and tired of hearing Squadron42 being used as an excuse. Stop being a Stan.
I mean people who have no link to the sc world won't know the free fly was cancelled. And will buy a ship to be dissapointed at the state of the game rather than trying for free and seeing its a mess. Is a good a bad thing it's cancelled. Good for us. Bad for an unsuspecting new player and proper 50/50 for CIG cos they will still make loney of those unaware. The issues were declared to us, not publicly. Yorubers need to post a 4.0 review vid for those looking into sc right now so they are aware of the issues before they pay money and go 'ive been screwed over'.
i really dont know if anyone would actually agree with this but. I think the game is ready for a full release (when looking at content), all that actually needs to be done is for the game to be bug free and stable. Yes all this cool new stuff would be nice to have but, not at all necessary. A stable game with a basic foundation will always be infinitely better than a game with a ton of content thats unplayable. if CIG spent as much time fixing the game as they did making concept ships, it would be released.
Just like my parents were never mad at me as a kid just disappointed I feel the same way about SC right now. I am so SO hopeful for the future of the game and I really believe in the project but man is it getting harder to look at that RSI launcher on my taskbar and go "do I really want to try my luck today?" I still jump in every so often and see what progress they make but my time playing has slowed down. Here is to the future though.
I've been going back to these citizencon videos myself just to try build some hype for myself again. Felt so dejected recently with sc and needed reminding of what they are working towards. Just hope they get this stuff sorted soon! I'm only a very small content creator, but the pain of trying to put content together in the game has been bruuuuuutal. Love your videos man keep it up
When a Star Citizen content creator like Olli gets fed up you know it's bad. At some point, even the shilliest of shills and richest Legatus will hit the wall of reality that everyone else faced a long time ago when trying to play this Alpha mess. The game is far too often almost completely non-functional and while the progress of server meshing will eventually fix some current issues, the game won't ever truly be stable and polished unless RSI turns around and dedicates a significant window of time to a series of major stability patches, actual bug hunting (not simply state something's fixed in patch/hotfix notes without testing whether it's still replicable in Live) and QoL updates. They need to fix and patch up a lot of the underlying code that is causing major issues as otherwise it will be very difficult to successfully add new features in a functional state and the longer the foundations of this game remain an unstable mess, the more convoluted it all becomes with each new feature slapped on top. The ultimate problem then that RSI faces with the current state of SC comes in the form of a dilemma: can the 'shiny .jpg spaceship and new features' marketing train so vital for funding be paused for just say 6-12 months so the Devs can focus on the crucial stability that SC has needed for quite some time? Does RSI have enough of a contingency fund to be able to pause new ship sales for the sake of stabilizing and ironing out what's already there? Can both actually be done at the same time with just a slowdown in new ship sales rather than halting them altogether? (i.e. the odd new ship announcement in an existing gameplay loop just to tick things over while most Devs work on stability and bug fixing.) It's been said for years now: you can see the potential, SC *could* be consistently great, even with what's just there right now. But it will never reach that full potential until a) Dynamic server meshing arrives fully working and b) RSI takes the time (and possibly money) to turn around and focus on fixing and stabilising what's already there. And I think SC has now reached the point where B needs to start happening before A arrives. Fingers crossed for the future but don't hold your breath.
If they keep focusing on releasing ship to boost their sale rather than fixing the game to the point it's at least playable,we as a consumer just need to do what consumer can do,by not buying anything from them until they fix the game...thats all
I really Love SC but in this state it's not worth losing your shit when your trying to have fun. been a backer since 2014 but going to walk away for a while just to bad to play at this point.
Now that the "Core Tech" is basically done... I mean, yeah, a lot of it is still in early stages, like Server Meshing... That's the one that, once they get Dynamic Meshing in... THAT will be *THE* game changer. As long as they can get it working RELIABLY, EFFICIENTLY and BUG FREE... Dynamic meshing is what will bring us a truly "Unified Universe" with no splitting users across multiple instanced servers and everyone in ONE shared universe. But there are still a LOAD more pieces that have to get into a good working state, too. Transit, missions, hangars, SHIPS, game loops, crafting, etc, etc, etc... And I have to say, while 4.0's release has been an ABSOLUTE CLUSTERFUX... It brings with it a glimpse into what's coming. For all its faults... For all its failings... The glimpse of what COULD be is there. If only CIG would stop the marketing shenanigans and hone in on actually MAKING THE GAME instead of manufacturing reasons to just sell more ships... And complete the ones that have been in the backlog for almost as long as the game itself has been in development... I think they'd capture a HUGE win. Flesh out the loops, flesh out the ships, get the bugs ironed out and for the love of all that is digital... GET THE CLIENT WORKING AT 60FPS for MOST hardware! sub-20fps on an AMD 3950X, 128GB of RAM, NVMe SSD's and an RTX 3080 is just ABYSMAL. There's NO excuse for that kind of "performance"! But, I digress... I just wish they'd stop pushing out these major patches before they're ready just because marketing wants to sell more ships. Get the patch in a good working state first. THEN sell the ships. Having a "game" that isn't a game yet perform as badly as Star Citizen does and then expect people to hype the game up so they can sell ships when SO MANY people just can't even PLAY what IS there... That's poor form, at best. It's inexcusable the way they've pushed patches to chase ship sales instead of making the patch WORTH pushing in the first place. Stop making these stupid events that most people simply can't even play and FIX the problems BEFORE pushing the events. That'd be great, but hey, what do I know? I'm just some poor schmuck that can't play a game that can't even hit 30fps while every other game I play can hit >100fps on the same hardware if don't cap to refresh. I've been waiting for the game to get in a "reasonable" state now for years... Looks like I'll be waiting for some time longer still.
These videos were clearly not done in Star Engine. If you want to believe they somehow fixed the endemic pop in SC has always had and then built all this on top of that major repair, go right ahead and fool yourself. Personally, I'm beyond tired of fake marketing videos. Wake me up when any of this gets in game.
I get irked by the applause because the audience seems to be cheering on Star Citizen's bad habit of giving us more eye candy while at the same time not fixing the playability of the game!
I have to say, I lament the loss of my ships and the loss of my first and only million credits, but nothing bothers me so much as the inventory changes. It's SUCH a pain in the rear to have to find a console every time I want to change clothing, and grabbing loot from outpost chests is basically impossible now.
I think something to consider is that server meshing is still a pretty new release at the moment, it's only been online for a month, so I think it's going to take a bit of time working through various issues and improving the stability. However, with that said, from 4.0_PREVIEW to 4.0.1 LIVE there has been a huge improvement, there is of course, as you've mentioned, lots of work still to do. Hopefully we'll see further improvements and a much more stable environment soon.
Been watching you since the early gta 5 days. You got me into this game. I love your optimism, but it's cold right now bc of many game breaking issues. There's such a contrast imo between the Visuals/Audio and the most basic gameplay elements of this game, like interacting with food/elevators/ships. I have good faith in that this game will see some major steps this year, but it just feels like a joke sometimes.
Thx for video! I sincerely hope, that SC becomes a game we all want. But at the same time i am afraid that issues which are present for a long time now arent "fixable" in their code, otherwise they would have fixed it already.
They need to put out SQ42 already, dragging their butts on that.. focus, literally people could be playing that while we wait for them to fix Star Citizen.
The game with a rating of 10 for MKT, and a rating of 3 for gameplay, if I enter the game today, a year after I stopped playing, I'm sure the same problems will be present.
imo the game just needs to get back to a playable state, where you can grind and enjoy the immersion without that feeling in the back of your mind, that some kind of bug is going to ruin it all!!
I can understand the desire to back off a bit, but I really do think your joy for what is to come is well meaning, despite what is going on now. I tried playing 4.0.1 after giving it a break for a few months, fell through the Tram right on my first play session after a work trip, and put it right back down. Now that server meshing is out (the last core tech pillar) my patience with a bug like that is growing thin, so I'm glad they are focusing on QoL and playability this year. I did have great performance, and the UI was pretty snappy in the game, so they've been making progress. But falling through that tram just put me right out any desire I had to play it. In the meantime, I'll be keeping up with their development like I have been and look forward to where I know this is going.
They have said the tram is old code that needs to be completely redone from scratch. I think they were waiting for server meshing to come online before they did it.
Star Citizen development is a shitshow, its like they started off on a scooter to do a cross country road trip and asked for money to get started by promising they would do fun stuff along the trip but to do the fun stuff they need more money, then when they had the extra money they needed to buy a car continue on the trip so they used the money for the funstuff for the car and now they need more money to get the funstuff done so they promise they would do even more fun stuff down the road after the intial fun stuff but now they need a bus to get across the country and repeat,
CiG doesn't give af about any of the actual issues. this is why i actually went back to playing warframe because that actually give af about their player base AND ITS FREE
It’s not CIG that is unhappy with the game, the players and especially long term backers and other content creators are not happy with the game. That’s the most important, nobody is making excuses anymore.
Being from Northern California it doesn't look like they have ever seen a redwood in real life. Those look like Charlie Brown Christmas trees with a fat trunk.
As an arborist, they look really similar to Sequoias; which is a type of Redwood. Ive climbed my fair share of them and at glace first thought "Hey, sequoias!" But thats just my observation
The whole new worlds thing is funny to me, like right now when u go to a planet, you go to a poi to drop cargo, loot, kill or whatever. But what reason do you have to go trudging through swamp water? or walking through the forest, seems like a waste since I can't see any actual game play happening in these new biomes. This is IF they actually even implement this "tech" into the game at any point in the future haha.
You do know your ship will be destroyed by lightning in the clouds of Pyro V now, right? If you fly down into the clouds, you'll get hit. Sometimes flying through the clouds when jumping around the planet using the quantum markers will disable your ship or blow it up from the lightning as well.
I like your usual content, I don’t think the community really wants to go through the same previews that fail to come short. Its the carrot and cig holds the stick
@@mhchx3 Then you're incompetent.. rather very incompetent because new technologies on scales not done before don't work at first almost ever, it often takes years of work and especially for something the scale of star citizen to get somewhere, also unless you think building a company from scratch is easy as is hiring employees to which it wasn't until around 2020 when they hit triple A studio size meaning the previous many years were all smaller to far less than half the size of a standard studio. Most games take 7-10 years and are no where near the level of scale and complexity Star Citizen is, and GTA 6 is over 12 years as well just about and double the cost at over 1.6 billion dollars. I will never understand the lack of knowledge so much of the playerbase has anyone with some knowledge of game development, back end development etc would have known years ago the complexity and scale of the project would be extremely difficult to work on. Games not even near this complex with 7-10 years of development have to cut content and change things, drop things and so forth constantly and they're not even a quarter of the scale of star citizen... You must be out of your mind to think that such massive progress which has been made wouldn't have many more bumps in the road, especially with server meshing and scaling along with developing it to work with their systems. Multi CPU back end development is not simple for anything let alone for a game that has far greater fidelity than even google deals with, and google has been tens of billions on datacenters, updates, software and so much more over a decade or so to manage all of these things the same for amazon and others. So CIG now has to develop these core systems to now function with their software and the other companies currently its amazons AWS systems, any backend engineer like GROLO will tell you have difficult this is. Nor has CIGs development cycle been any different than the majority of game development cycles and in fact its been better than many game development cycles, look at dragon age, halo infinite, call of duty and diablo 4 etc.
You right there a lot of features need to be fixed, bt I guess it take some time like 2 years, maybe(?) before they are done. I think there should be more role play like protect orison(?) or fight for pyro. More cinematic role quests not only contracts like short shot of squadron 42. You get it right? game fixes and optimising witch solution is the best one first and then expand or add features with fully integrated mechanics into whole game (like falling with ship into lake and water starts slowly to fill damaged hull instead of crash or instant flood into whole deck (physics everywhere to border of absurd = realism)). OTP 4:10 forest should be denser. And thats just an example of whole thouth :) pss elevetors should be fine there is just small trick, call elevator once, secound time, wait to chanfge its location on display, call elevator again, should do the trick that still need fixing.
But there was NO GAMEPLAY SHOWN at any CitCon, "It's just scripted events that takes time away from Design/Code/Art/Sound to get this game finished," whatever this game is... CIG certainly don't seem to have a Unified Vision of this product... how can you not see this, Olli?
He does. Your mistake was forgetting that everyone and everything is motivated and influenced by money. CIG pays Ollie to make generally positive videos about the game. He is prohibited from explicitly saying anything overly critical. This type of contract is ubiquitous in the gaming space. Marketing has evolved along with the times.
I may be the odd viewer and backer that hasn't played since 3.18 (almost entirely for life reasons) and so because of that I get the weird vantage point of experiencing and enjoying all of the hype and none of the bug. That being said, for me it seems that I am waiting for that threshold to hit where I can pitch Star Citizen to friends who have never heard of it and convince them it's worth it and ready to play. So just patience on my end.
Told my nephew to not buy it until its in a playable state, he went and bought it anyway, tried to play together but I was literally waiting on him the whole time, because his game was compiling shaders and he would die to elevators etc. He tried to get some money in game through all the bugs, and then the news came its going to be a full wipe for 4.0. making it even less incentive to play, as if game braking bugs were not enough. I'm not playing, and have no desire to until its actually playable.
Well, what do I think? Chris just wiped out all my cash and ships and left me with 25k of which is all gone dew to bugs destroying my ship in the hanger as I fall through the floor with my fist, second, third, and fourth booty haul, after falling through the floor several times trying to get off the shuttle in orison loosing what little gear I had. Half of the 25k was lost in my first attempts to get to the hanger. In the end the only thing I could do was to test the drunk mechanic while spending my last 200 on beer naked because I had nothing left at all. Thanks for the experience CIG. That's 6 hours of futility I'll never get back!
Don't worry, after you succesfully download the game you will get even more bugs. Here's some common examples. Can't log in. Infinite loading screen. So after you defeat those ones, then you can actually play and experience the real game bugs, like falling through the elevators with gear you just bought with your starter money. Maybe in a few months you will actually play enough to earn for a new ship in game, which would be cool if you didn't know all your mission progress, money progress and ship progress will be wiped at some point. Do yourself a favor wait until a non-shill youtuber says its playable, because rn its in a bad state even by sc standards.
Where have you been? It's much better to simulate trees. When you're GPU renders all the leaves fluttering, it draws enough watts to melt an icecap. Trees are dirty. Get real.
Is everyone out of their minds?!?!?! CANCEL ALLLL FREE FLY EVENTS!!! they have never worked and an enormous amount of people that try to play SC during free fly never get to experience the game in a working condition, all it does is ruin the games reputation by showing it off in it's worst state. I have been lobbying CIG to cancel free fly events for like 2 years!
Alright guys, some follow-up thoughts. Firstly, it's great to hear the free fly was cancelled because, if nothing else, it shows that CIG are listening and more focused than ever. It was the right decision.
That said, what I wanted to talk about in this video is how strange it is to see CIG basically contradict its own marketing-“playable now.”
User Grimtoc on Spectrum put it best:
"All of these TH-cam videos saying 'playable now' are 100% contradictory to this post basically saying everything is broken.
1. Starting the game - Load Times and Initial Load
2. Finally loading in - Character Stowing and Repair
3. Getting to your ship - Elevator in the Room
4. Getting out with your ship - Hangar Woes
5. Getting places in your ship - Quantum Travel and Starmap
6. Doing things in or out of your ship - Mission Issues
7. Finally finding something to do - Additional Fixes
8. Keeping what you find - LTP and Keeping What You Earn"
I really hope all the hard work from CIG starts to shine again and that they can deliver updates they’re happy with.
Cancelling the free flight is the most reasonable thing they could do
They need to cancel everything ..... Only work on bug fixes
Maybe doo another discounted starter pack or something
@@gamechanger2473 They are not making something different games have already done what SC is trying to do lol. We don't care about content when the current content don't even work. i could carless if this game had 1 ship and 1 mission but it worked. The put out broken patches to make people come back to buy ships irl without really fixing shit they are manipulators. Its the same like every trash game being made now. yeah .. and highlighting to the outside world how broken everything currently is really is not helping much .. don't talk about being an advertisement "for" the game rather than against.
Yeah but it isn't good for the game. Imagine being on the fence, going to play this free flight and it getting canned.
Much talk 0 progress. No elevators were harmed in the making of this video.
19th 2014:
* Arena Commander 1.0 was just released.
* 2.0 was still a year out. There was no persistent universe.
* There was no social module. That was released 8 months later (Alpha 1.2)
* There were no planets. Star Citizen now has 32 worlds to explore now. That's 2 star systems, 10 planets, 22 moons. While the planets are smaller than real life, they're still 1.5 times the size of the United States. That's 109 times bigger than England. And moons are about 8.5 times the size of England, (about 1.6 times the size of Texas)
* We had the hangar module, and Arena Commander.
Now, with the 2 systems, it's 1,972,092,951,590,146,400,000 (1.97 sextillion km³, according to ChatGPT)
* The game had 3 points of interest (hangar, 2 AC maps).
There was just 9 ships (only 5 unique hulls)
Things have come farther than they give them credit for. Server meshing and other core tech was always the big technical hurdle that delayed things.
Help I'm stuck in obituary elevator
@@ErikLiberty Facts, people don't look back but they are not wrong either, They deserver to be angry, who is not angry when you can't even enter in the game. ( But those who are toxic/rage baiting don't deserve atention in my opinion, is fine to criticize but not hate the devs or other players.). It does excel at a lot of gameplay. When it works. By the way, I have only ever had ONE cinematic in the entire game.

@@R0CKETMVNTVwym only one ?
@@Jeyshara basically we just need gta but for space and where every planet has amazing graphics. Is this too much to ask for ???

@@allthatishere realistically yes. But they told us that the game will be done or major parts of it. Yet its not even 10%
Yep, and people still routinely fall through the surface of planets.
But, can you blame them? For years they have promised pie in the sky while delivering a buggy janky mess and the money kept rolling in. Why do anything different?
Well, now they have to do things different, but it may be too late.
well the issue is, they released 4.0.1 and almost NONE of the elevators or hangars work. you can't run a free fly if the people can't even fly
Seriously, not everything can be #1. Elevators and doors are the real #1. It's literally the FIRST thing users need to do when they log in. At this point this is seriously an "all hands on deck" sort of problem. The rest I'd say:
#2 Not getting shard locked.
#4 Quantum failures
#5 Cargo missions and cargo elevators
Bro elevator problems became so rare wtf
Man I can't wait to fall through the world in all these new locations
i came back to the game after fixing my pc for 2 weeks. spawned, fell though the elevator, respawned, woke up at hospital. went to the trains, fell though the train.
restarted game, fell though the elevator....
its absolutely unplayable. it is really close to 3.18
Same thing happened to me then the cherry on the top was falling through the tram and then getting infinite loading screen glitch
I think it's even worse 3.18.
Fell through the elevator leaving my hangar in Port Tressler and was floating through space. That was shitty but the visuals were nice
@ no when 3.18 many people could not even log in. funny thing was for me 3.18 ran very good lol.
I wish Morphologis would stop trying to be so diplomatic about things and just come out swinging at CIG for one video

It's space lightning. It's 2 times stronger than regular Earth lightning...
I'll jump into the game when Squadron 42 drops.
If....
What makes you think SQ42 will be any better?
Now, pair that feeling, with a working, SEAMLESS experience.
i fully agree, the last patches felt like they are not doing sht, i started in SC around 2016 and loved the game, but its an underwhelming state the actual patches, they focus as you said in sales when they should fix everything to give us some actual servers
yes its hard and all you want but they have tons of money and tech to improve, fixed game happy customer, happy customer spread the game to others and then more money

The game MUST work well, like ALL missions MUST work, hangars MUST work, elevators MUST work.
MAKE STAR CITIZEN GREAT :P
Silly silly man. Elevators are an addon, later on. lol
Free fly was one of the worst decisions CIG ever implemented. I completely ignored the game everytime a free fly event was active.
im surprised everyone is talking about the elevators, im stuck in the loading screen.
@@Billy-bc8pkHow do you explain the recent wave of criticism though? Why now? Its a bit strange
The illogicality of haters is regular, however this current wave is very strange
Since you are involved, i ask you to get informed. how is it that despite the context, even people who are knowledgeable and lifelong supporters are behaving irrationally negative suddenly?
Well, what's the point in a free fly event, when every single elevator (ship and person) is not working for 80 % of the time (👉゚ヮ゚)👉
Ship gets struck by lightning and you say "Shouldn't of cheaped out." that just sums up the SC communities conditioning so well.
They're admitting the game 5h17.
That's the first step to fixing it.
Canceling the free flight was smart.
They must have chained a hundered 5090s to render the weather scene.
@@a.j.6832 most of what was cut was entirely useless or unimportant things or were added in earlier anyways in 3.24.. so I have no complaints on what was cut since most of it you'd never notice or interreact with
yes, when a new tech is released, we have 2-3 months of mess
I have ZERO sympathy for CIG at this point.
No other business in the world plans its business for the new year IN THE NEW YEAR. You plan 25 in 24.
I dont give a shit about Squadron42. I didnt pay for Squadron42. I never asked for Squadron42 and I'm getting a little sick and tired of hearing Squadron42 being used as an excuse.
Stop being a Stan.

Actual crowd reaction: "WOAHHH"
this community deserves better
As always, cig work on alot of new cool features, but until they get stability, they just building on a foundation of buggy sand
Love your videos man keep it up
same, but we aint getting this for a long time
@prediction3624 I know 😔 but a guy can dream!
Someone thats this invested into SC i find it hard to believe you are just now watching Citizen Con.
(i.e. the odd new ship announcement in an existing gameplay loop just to tick things over while most Devs work on stability and bug fixing.)
It's been said for years now: you can see the potential, SC *could* be consistently great, even with what's just there right now.
The cinematic looked wicked good, but I don't see this actually happening.
At the start of that changing seasons video I'm like that's some high grade copium he's taking! 😆
After 10 years 500 MILLION $$ 😮
: "look at the beautiful trees"
😡🤯No words can convey how bad this is
well said man, finally people are realizing things need doing. The game has so much potential.
Just give it another 10 years, man...
They add all this, but leaving a station is still: hope elevators work, they don't work, you can't leave ever.
We need more NPCs we can talk to and interact with
These videos were clearly not done in Star Engine. If you want to believe they somehow fixed the endemic pop in SC has always had and then built all this on top of that major repair, go right ahead and fool yourself. Personally, I'm beyond tired of fake marketing videos. Wake me up when any of this gets in game.
I think there are a handful devs holding this thing together with duct tape or whatever they can find while CR is sipping drinks in the Maldives.
even if they didn't cancel the free flight, can't even get in my own hangar
I get irked by the applause because the audience seems to be cheering on Star Citizen's bad habit of giving us more eye candy while at the same time not fixing the playability of the game!
Overly positive SC content creators run risk of chanel backlash when this game goes tit's up.
I have to say, I lament the loss of my ships and the loss of my first and only million credits, but nothing bothers me so much as the inventory changes. It's SUCH a pain in the rear to have to find a console every time I want to change clothing, and grabbing loot from outpost chests is basically impossible now.
All these recent updates, citizen cons etc. showed me that this game will never be finished and that we were all scammed.
Can't wait to get the 12090 to support the new stuff in game!
Add to the priority list: guns that reload and fire
cargo that doesn't disappear (at least it reappeared later)
Last time I went to a planet with that many forests, the trees were speaking binary. ↑ → ↓ ↓ ↓
“If we say we are going to have a free fly, then cancel it the community will think we are really working in stability”
-marketing team
The game with a rating of 10 for MKT, and a rating of 3 for gameplay, if I enter the game today, a year after I stopped playing, I'm sure the same problems will be present.
imo the game just needs to get back to a playable state, where you can grind and enjoy the immersion without that feeling in the back of your mind, that some kind of bug is going to ruin it all!!
I hope you still decide to upload the full video. I would live to see your reactions of the entire weekend!
@ErikLiberty Yeah, that was part of the transit refactor, which got put off to get 4.0 out. I'm starting to think that may have been a misstep.
The community and like the backers should put pressure on them. We are in the end investors, we put Our Money to make this game. Wake up people!
In the words of the warcry of Kahless the Unforgettable "Today is a good day to die."
Sink or swim CIG
Star Citizen development is a shitshow, its like they started off on a scooter to do a cross country road trip and asked for money to get started by promising they would do fun stuff along the trip but to do the fun stuff they need more money, then when they had the extra money they needed to buy a car continue on the trip so they used the money for the funstuff for the car and now they need more money to get the funstuff done so they promise they would do even more fun stuff down the road after the intial fun stuff but now they need a bus to get across the country and repeat,
18:30 Nah we hear you. I am happy to hear that content creators get frustrated with the current state of the game. You are not alone.
CiG doesn't give af about any of the actual issues. this is why i actually went back to playing warframe because that actually give af about their player base AND ITS FREE
Star Citizen, we added rainforests and swamps to our space game.
i love how they start to implement all theese cool things that only people with 4k $ pc's can run
This was very star wars like with the ship in the water like the one in in dagobah and the speeders in Endor
Stability and bug fixing any day over a new feature. It is so frustrating to loose hours of gameplay in a bugged mission.
I like your usual content, I don’t think the community really wants to go through the same previews that fail to come short. Its the carrot and cig holds the stick
This is the most irritated I have been with the project so far.
Same, I was an avid supported for almost 12 years but I can't in good conscious keep giving them the benefit of the doubt
Terada posted a thing on spectrum and we got this. Not a coincidence
And thats just an example of whole thouth :)
pss elevetors should be fine there is just small trick, call elevator once, secound time, wait to chanfge its location on display, call elevator again, should do the trick that still need fixing.
5:00 look at all these beautiful places there's literally no reason to go to
I could smell my laptop's 4050 burning when i saw the thumbnail, I'm on my phone too
this is the most amazing game footage I have ever seen in my life
Where is the gameplay footage from?
@@Zigtyr. Where's your evidence that he gets paid?
Seeing hurricanes and tornadoes would be phenomenal
Star citizen: the Vietnam war update
So lighting will keep certain ships with small shields hanger locked till the weather clears up
Well, what do I think?
OMG Seasons! Has anyone managed to just buy more than one bottle of drink recently!
I just wish I could play. I got a starter pack a few weeks ago, but haven't even been able to successfully download the game. :(
Don't worry, after you succesfully download the game you will get even more bugs.
Do yourself a favor wait until a non-shill youtuber says its playable, because rn its in a bad state even by sc standards.
sadly de installed SC and started playing No man sky again. World's 2 made SC look ameture.
It never ceases to amaze me how excited people get over a game company making things that exist in real life. OMG! TREES?! THEY HAVE TREES?! NO WAY!
