  • Last weekend we had the pleasure of experiencing the iconic Braunston Historic Narrowboat Rally from onboard one of the most special boats, Raymond. Raymond is the last wooden working narrow boat but she's also part of Andrew's family history, so this was a really special experience. Really hope you enjoy this video!
Thanks so much to the Friends of Raymond for having us, it was such a lovely day.

We really hope you enjoy this snapshot of the sights and sounds of the Braunston Historic Boat Rally 2023, we shot all the footage on Saturday the 24th and Kristina has worked really hard to edit it together in less than 48 hours.
A huge thank you to the efforts of everyone involved in The Friends of Raymond who are keeping a huge part of my family’s history alive.
I honestly don’t know what my dad and grandad would have made of the internet, TH-cam etc, but I do know the fact that the canals are thriving and their memory still lives on would have meant the world.

It was absolutely stunning! Cinematic and very interesting. Thanks so much. I felt the sense of community through my screen. I enjoy your content so so so much, because it stirs something within me. x

I wonder what your Dad and Grandad would have made of 'The Grabber'... ☺

    • @andrewkendall
      @andrewkendall ปีที่แล้ว +12

@@RJ-444 I know for sure dad would never have left anything behind in the canal. His tool of choice was a modified rake with a wire mesh over it. I like to think of 'The Grabber' as its spiritual successor.

What was the name of your dad & Grandad as I am sitting with George Wain who knew the Kendall’s, he says they lived in Braunston village. Did one of them marry a lady called Annie Harrison?
George Wain and also his Dad George Wain Snr. who married Annie Evans all come off the working boats. I have just shown George your video and he thought it was marvellous.
Lots of love to you both

I had no idea that Andrew’s Dad & Grandad were part of the history of the canals. It was lovely the image towards the end of Andrew & his mum ♥️
We used to own Admiral which was built in 1905, it was originally a FMC steamer. It was an honour to own her for the few years that we did. Your vlog brought back lots of memories and I thought it was absolutely brilliant!! Brought a tear to my eye. Fabulous!!! Just absolutely fabulous!!! Xxx

You capture the mood of boat life like no one else on YT does, next time anyone asks me, ‘what is it like?’ I’ll send them here. I really miss Braunston now we’re on the Yorkshire waterways, so I especially loved this and your xmas Braunston vlog.

Another great video Kris - lovely scenes of ordinary people enjoying simple pleasures - highlights? The man with a tin of Brasso the size of an artillery shell, the dog that could not decide if it wanted to be on the boat or off and changed its mind countless times plus - very near the end - that chap reading a magazine that looked up for only a second, smiled, nodded and resumed his read... lovely editing! - BUT, the Uber highlight, the piece of soundtrack music that was also used in the Cadbury advert featuring Frank Muir in the 1970's "Everyone's a fruit and nut case" ........ such memories. Well done.

Another banger! lovely to see all those old boats. there was a lot of freshly painted boats it looked like. one thing I always liked about England...so many people willing to be caretakers and stewards of so many (too many to probably count) aspects and places and things of your history. no where else in the world does it happen like it happens there.
Eagerly waiting for the next video...

@@krisatomic Oxford is lovely, but it can get pretty crowded around noon in the summer. I most enjoyed a walk my sister (she and her family live in Oxford) and I took from Iffley along the Thames and the canals through Port Meadow.

Wonderful history! BTW, my great-grandfather was an Arthur Bray, as well. Our family immigrated to the US during the potato famine and settled in the Ohio/Kentucky area eventually Missouri, then up to Michigan and down to Arkansas. Bummers about your camera equipment, glasses and phone, sigh. But good about the gut!
