I think when people have bought into an expensive brand, they feel compelled to defend the brand’s quality etc to justify the amount of money they’ve spent. If they admit they’ve just paid an exorbitant amount for a bag that’s no better than one that costs a lot less, they look stupid. So they’re really defending their own image, not the brand!
Excellent point and I do think that's true for a lot of people which is why I asked them to try to be objective about it. That can be difficult, though, when you've been told all your life that the luxury brands are superior.
Thank you for introducing me to a couple of new brands that I had not heard of, including Henry’s and NAGHEDI. I am a huge fan of Tory Burch (basically addicted lol), and have always loved Coach. I do have several pristine vintage Coach bags. I was, however, surprised you did not include The row, KHAITE, MCM or DELVAUX. I’m a fan of these as well. Thoughts?
Agreed, I was so excited to buy my first LV NF, I saved for a while, and honestly I was not impressed from what the brand used to be. I was so disappointed but found my coach tote is fantastic for something so basic its great and has lasted me forever.
I'm a Coach stan since the pandemic. What Coach does so well is that they are introduced to young potential buyers when they are either VERY young, because parents feel comfortable with the price point for the kids to use, or they are introduced to buyers when they are just earning their first paychecks. Coach is very good at brand loyalty starting very young. Then they have aspirational lines (1941) when the customer starts getting older and more knowledgable about leathers. Coachtopia and outlet bags are brilliant as a "loyalty starters". Brands need to start thinking like Coach when it comes to being part of the customer's life milestones. Coach evolves with the customer.
Fake scarcity is so annoying. I'm glad to see you have included a few hype metrics in the spread sheet. I purchased my first Coach (convertable clutch) in NYC for $40. I wish I still had it. Glove tanned leather and no lining. Simply perfection! I wish they'd bring back a few bags from their early days.
This is amazing! I've always struggled with understanding why certain brands remain "luxury" when their quality is subpar. I've never moved out of the contemporary brands because of this. I think you nailed it when you said what each of us consider as luxury is going to be different. There is no objective way to measure luxury because we all value different things.
See, this is why I love you. First off, I love spreadsheets and numbers. I really like how you put this together. Your scoring was so interesting. I appreciate the way you scored and the numbers you gave each of the items you scored. You are just always so full of information. :-)
I equally love my bags regardless of their brand- Louis Vuitton, Coach, Gucci, MCM, Burberry, and even Longchamp. Lately I am starting to love Katespade again too. I do love your videos. We share the same love for bags in general.
I rarely comment on videos. I love your presentation and wording in this video. I’m choosing to follow you today. Thanks for keeping it real. It’s important for us to remain objective when deciding on large purchases. Leather is leather and quality is quality regardless of a brand name.
Great video! I used to be all about the brand name. But once I started noticing the decline in quality, quality became my most important factor with design second. It’s taken me about 10 years to get there, but there is no greater satisfaction than holding and using a bag with amazing quality that will age well with me.
Amazing analysis. Thank you. I have always held Coach in high esteem & in 1985 purchased my first. All these years & 23 bags later (some vintage retired), I purchased my 1 & only LV pochette metis in 2002. I love those of you who hold collections of many brands. Loved this Autumn!
I thoroughly enjoyed this video & greatly appreciated your creative approach to the ranking of these brands. I tend to think of handbags in a very similar manner. I don't always have the most popular opinion of "these beautiful things we love," as I'm not impressed by designer names at all. This ranking was probably the most accurate I've ever seen and I'm glad to see most of my favorite contemporary favorites have ranked very high based on these very practical standards.
I was so glad to see Brahmin’s ranking. I love those bags! I think they’re under the radar for a lot of people. Same with Dooney/Henry’s. I also love Dior and Fendi. I would agree with your rankings pretty much 100%. Especially the bottom two! They’d be on my list in those spots also.
I have been tempted by Hammit ads recently, but never heard anyone else speak of them. Your recommendation gives me more motivation to look more into them lol
Great video..just off the top of my head ..customer service 1..Fendi and Dior, Price -1 Louis Vuitton compared to quality Availability- all brands except Hermes Quality - 1 Hermes 2. Celine and Loewe
I would love to do this because I have some brands that you don’t. I do think when it comes to leather bags that Longchamp beats all of the others in their group. Their leather quality is impeccable.
I really think Hermes got people so twisted when it comes to what luxury means. Most people just want to flip bags now as an investment and they don't even like using them because it will lose value. Better to buy less popular bags that you love to use.
People who gets offended are mainly because of the amount of price they paid over these over price luxury bags.. When realistically if you feel and seen these luxury bags and found an equivalent leather quality in a contemporary bag… A person with an open mind would realize there are other bags that can compete with these luxury bags with a fraction of the price. The Hermes game is just plain annoying 😅 Thanks for your POV as always ❤
Such an interesting topic! What Hermes and Chanel has done is push the pre loved market, there’s no way me and many others are bending over backwards and jumping through hoops to beg a corporation to take my $15k. Those designs are available elsewhere. 🤷🏻♀️ Honestly, a nice leather bag is a nice leather bag… find what YOU love. I never sell my bags so resale isn’t on the table for me.😊
Such an interesting and well presented video, as always! You got me thinking of what my own parameters actually are for what I want in a bag. I realized the top two for me are quality and functionality, which actually have nothing to do with a luxury brand name. I love an all weather Dooney and Bourke as much as a Louis Vuitton. However, brands have knocked themselves off my list permanently through poor practices, Chanel and Balenciaga in particular. I think my own collecting is about always looking for the "perfect bag" when I know there is no one bag that does it all. Still, it's fun to appreciate them for their certain designs and qualities, I'm just finally figuring out that I don't need to own them all to appreciate them, lol.
This was a great video. I am so happy that Gucci scored higher than other traditional designer’s. For some reason so many people throw shade their way as if LV is so much better. I have 5 Gucci bags and 5 LV’s and let me tell you these gal’s are very hard wearing. Only one was over 3k but that was a limited edition Horsebit that had some extra labor and materials involved and it is a fantastic bag which garners many compliments. Not to mention my Marmont which I literally have abused for 2 years and the hardware is still in excellent condition as is the leather. Great video! Love seeing various topics about our bags as I am so over unboxings. Thanks and keep it up!
I love this video! I’m most shocked about Fendi, I have a few Fendi items but often tend to leave them out, and I’m not sure why. Great research and I love how you used an objective system!
You are awesome Autumn….i haven’t been on your channel in a bit. You’re still my fav…love your personality you make watching your videos fun…looks to me like your move has been good for your soul, you are so happy.❤
Interesting video. I have longed for a Louis Vuitton purse for years. I have been (slooowly) saving up for one, but have been hesitant towards really pushing saving for one because I have heard so much about the quality of the bags going down over the last 5 years or so. I am not interested in saving up for a bag if it's going to have problems. I do have 2 small pieces of it; a key case that I use and love (except the zipper doesn't stay closed, and I mourn the loss of a sentimental token I had in it) and a small cosmetic bag I keep in my purse. I have decided that going forward I would rather put my money towards small leather goods of the "luxury" brands. I was pleased to see that Coach ranked high on your list. I have quite a collection of Coach purses and love them! I am not familiar with some of the brands you mentioned and will have fun looking into them.
Thanks Autumn for sharing 🤗😍. I will see if i can do a video on this and of course will link your video too if i do that. My take for this approach will be the same except that so far i have not purchase from pre loved thus the rank for the pre loved price may be different. No surprised with Hermes. They have good leather but the accessibility and prices sucks. (of course which includes pre spend)
I bought Coach during the pandemic. I love the Coach Cassie which has now been discontinued. I own on LV the Neverfull. I hardly use it. Now I am into Longchamp totes.
This is such a unique way of looking at things. For me I may look at this two ways. One for buying new and one for buying preloved. I will say that Fendi is currently underpriced in the preloved market in my opinion so I can see why they did so well in your system.
Hi Autumn, I’ve noticed from time to time your video pixelates, I watch many other YT videos and don’t experience that with others. I still watch just thought I’d let you know. 😊
I absolutely loooove my Hammitt bags! I agree not many people know about them but I get totally excited when I see them in the wild and have to talk to the person carrying it 😂 I have the clear stadium/concert bag and two of their leather bags. I would highly recommend them🤩🤩🤩
Loved your analysis. Im a spreadsheet nerd 😂 I’m a coach fan. Love their glove tanned leather and the quality of everything I got from them is just great. I’m also an equestrian and a sucker for anything equestrian inspired. I got one of their coated canvas moon bags (Luna bag?) that has the horse and carriage pattern. Never bought anything that is not leather but man I love it 💛 Thank you for your videos.
I watched the video by Connors about Coach and I respect his opinion, but I don’t think he understands the brand. Coach does have a history, the American designer Bonnie Cashin designed for Coach, and a lot of her designs have been revived, even Jonathan Anderson for Loewe has been inspired by her, then in the 90s designer Reed Krankoff changed entirely the designs and the new logo. I sold Coach bags back in the 90s and we had Europeans that bought the bags and desired them.
Brilliant video! So thought provoking. The luxury brands have lost me due to the excessive price increases. I prefer to do other things with the money. For the cost of a Birkin I can spend six weeks in Europe and I know which I would enjoy more! Thank you for the video!
Growing up I always thought it was more wise to spend on materials things that last rather than on vacations that are over too quickly. Since I've been able to take a few dream trips as an adult, though, I agree that the vacations are more important (although I do love both). The memories really are a very valuable and lasting thing.
Some of those brands i don't know alot about and being in Australia its not always easy to see the amount of brands. Would love more info on some of these other brands
I think The Row is giving Hermes a run for their money, the Margaux is now called the new Birkin/Kelly…..loving it because they may not be able to have their cake and eat it too 🙃 any longer
I have a Lancel bag 10+ years…it is a beautiful bag and keeps well. It gets a lot of compliments and is orange. Got it in Paris as it is more affordable vs the luxury bags like LV, Chanel etc…
I’m obsessed with Neghedi. I’m thinking of buying one for the summer. You should do a video on the brand. Also, curious on why you gave Gucci only a 1 on approachability. I’ve always had great experiences with the brand.
I love this, and I am agreeing so so much, I love how you did this just makes sense! Logic! Thankyou for your honesty and not all of us love hermes! ❤but this is so refreshing and fair! I love Kate spade ♠️
I do like coach and have a few bags. Why does no one mention Dooney and bourke bags? I like them a great deal and they have held up as well as my coach bags over the years.
I have no fear of walking into ant retailer, and I do not tolerate poor treatment ny an SA. Needless to say I do not bother with Chanel anymore and I dislike going into Hermes in the US. In Eurpoe I've had nothing but good experiences with Hermes but in the US, APPALLING. Same for most LV in the US.
Chanel in Paris is great. The SA that assisted me was lovely. I did buy my Chanel bag my first day in Paris. Loved it and they brought me champagne too and gave me lots of perfume samples. After I came back to US, the SA sent me a nice Thank You note on a Chanel theme card.
I was just wondering why you left out Dooney & Bourke? Their Leather bags (toscana, alto, florentine) have beautifully and consistently made for decades far better than Brahmin and I own both.
Never been a big fan of LV and I started buying LV when they were much more affordable. Very over priced these days and I’ll only buy preloved that are very good condition. I have beautiful leather Prada bags with stellar quality. I’ll pay for a new Prada before I would LV. Hermes not interested in yawn… I also like affordable nice quality contemporary bags. I prefer to spend my hard earned money on my family and charities.
While I appreciate Coach and the quality of their leather, I have pet peeves that prevent me from wearing their bags. They are ridiculously narrow. They are heavy, with ligaments/joints issues this is not the brand you should consider. The small bags are useless to me since I can't put anything, except card case. Did I mentioned I have 3 dinky's that fit nothing with 2 inches width. Ughh... I wear brands that are at least 3 inches wide, I like soft leather, and medium size. Marc Jacobs is one of my favorite, he considers customer needs. I only have one LV bag and the lock does not keep it close. It is an unfortunate experience. I have one Portland leather goods tote, and it is good to carry computer while traveling. I don't like Rebecca Minkoff anymore since "enough copies". No Alexis Bitter, I am not a fan of this line. No Aspinal of London. Kate Spade is very decent quality, not perfect, but their bags are better size and weight than Coach even though Coach owns them. I have couple Tory Burch bags, excellent quality, no issues. I have couple of Longchamps bags, no issues either, great for travel. I love straw totes, and got couple of them. My favorite bag is Balenciaga style bags, great work horse bags. I don't have bags from Hermes and/or Chanel. I wish I did :)
love coach but if do get right away it get sold out my coach store get all new bags but if I wait and get sold out onine it hard for them to order them but always come back aroud it what we belive people say then buy hermes that can buy not coach anymore it all what you belive
Did you watch the video or just comment based on the title? It seems like you didn't watch because the comment doesn't make sense in context. Plus, Coach definitely is an international brand.
I think when people have bought into an expensive brand, they feel compelled to defend the brand’s quality etc to justify the amount of money they’ve spent. Coach is really value for money! high quality, timeless and affordable
Ive always loved Coach. I have a nearly 40 year old Coach bag i still love.

This is such an interesting viewpoint! It's a holistic approach towards brand evaluation from a consumer standpoint. Such a fun video!
Job well done, Autumn! I can tell you put so much thought and detail into this video. Thanks for sharing with us!
Coach bags that use their “luxe refined calf” like the bandit are amazing
Love a good spreadsheet. The coloring is great too.
Thanks for sharing a great list and comments. Coach has been my favorite (and my grandmother's favorite) for a long time.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video & greatly appreciated your creative approach to the ranking of these brands. I tend to think of handbags in a very similar manner.

Nothing beats vintage Coach. Nothing in their current (last three years) compare.

Nice video. Thank you. I like how you tried to make the ranking more objective.

Morning Autumn, I hope their prices remain reasonable though! Hope you and your family keeping well! TYFS! 😊
Thank you. :) We're doing well.
Autumn I loved this video. I found it to be fascinating! Thank you
I no longer buy Chanel or LV due to quality issues.
I think your chart is very reasonable, good job on putting the chart together 👍🏼

Great video I love coach bags I wanted what are your thoughts on kate spade bags, Michael kors, lancel bags , polen bags, Lanvin?
I'm not familiar with any of their bags except Kate Spade and I think I mentioned them in this video.
I have a Lancel bag 10+ years…it is a beautiful bag and keeps well. It gets a lot of compliments and is orange. Got it in Paris as it is more affordable vs the luxury bags like LV, Chanel etc…
I enjoyed your analysis--very eye-opening.
Hammitt is also sold in Dillard’s department stores. They are really nice bags.

This was so interesting. TFS xoxo 🥰
Enjoyed this, Autumn. Very insightful.

Also, curious on why you gave Gucci only a 1 on approachability. I’ve always had great experiences with the brand.

Dooney and bourke , Coach and Brahmin are luxurious and affordable ( in my opinion)

I’m not surprised that Fendi is at the top because I think they are one of the most innovative brands.
I do like coach and have a few bags. Why does no one mention Dooney and bourke bags? I like them a great deal and they have held up as well as my coach bags over the years.
What about Dooney&Bourke? How would that brand be ranked?
I left them out because I don't have a Dooney that's not vintage so I'm not familiar with their current bags.

I was just wondering why you left out Dooney & Bourke? Their Leather bags (toscana, alto, florentine) have beautifully and consistently made for decades far better than Brahmin and I own both.
I left them out because I don't have a Dooney that's not vintage so I'm not familiar with their current bags.
Great video and valid points ❤😊!
Thank you. :)
@@AutumnBeckman your welcome
I am not even buying preloved louis vuitton now, i am buying ralph lauren, kate spade, and dooney now, with a few coach bags
I like the metrics, all but 1. If a bag doesn't hold its value that is a negative to me.
I inherited four beautiful Coach bags. They are STILL in excellent quality. Quality LASTS. That, to me, is the point.
Awesome!
Thank you. :)
Interesting video.
I love how durable Coach and kate spade are.
Polene would have scored pretty well. Excellent quality, poor resale, unique designs, good prices. Might have come up as No 1!
If I had one of their bags I would have included it for sure. :)
I’m surprised Dooney & Bourke didn’t make the list.
The only reason it didn't is because I don't have a Dooney that's not vintage so I'm not familiar with their current bags.
They might have but only in the US. Coach remains an American brand, not an international brand.
Did you watch the video or just comment based on the title? It seems like you didn't watch because the comment doesn't make sense in context. Plus, Coach definitely is an international brand.
you are right, even Moscow had Coach store @@AutumnBeckman
A great video Autumn! Thank you for this!
I think Delvaux would rank high 😊!
It probably would!
Michael Kors didn’t even make the list?
I only included brands I own.
