Your joystick saga punched me right in the feels. I know that frustrating feeling of buyer’s remorse all too well. Also, the look on your face when you shared how much the part cost was priceless. Hoping this video gets enough views to pay your JD bill. 😅

Neil… I hate using balky equipment. Chainsaws that won’t restart, weedeaters that don’t unspool, a tiller that shears pins constantly, a tractor that shuts off in the middle of a task… nothing turns a job into torture, quicker. For me, it isn’t the annoyance of having to fix it… or even the cost. It is the loss of time and the rescheduling of everything around the task that chafes me the most.
Hopefully you have this problem debugged.
This is a good sized project. Having bartered your way into it I hope you come out on the long side of the stick!!!

This is a huge project. I'm hoping everything falls into place and it turns out to be mutually beneficial. Worst part is that it's a good ways from home, but I'm committed now. Wish me luck!

Thanks for the video Neil ! I appreciate your review of the skid loader question: "Did the seller know or was it just the result of unfortunate timing?" I liked that you didn't assume bad faith in others when there was no evidence. I respect a guy that isn't quick to blame someone else for their problems. I believe that our appraisal of others is often a reflection of our own character. I don't know whether the seller understood he was selling you a broken machine but I am pretty sure that Neil Koch is a guy with integrity and honor. Keep on truckin with a smile buddy !

I had a tool box like yours in my Avalanche, which leaked a bit. After cleaning the tools of rust, I put a handful of pill bottle descant packs in it, never rusted again. Now I collect them and use them everywhere. Ammo cans, tools, tool drawers, closets...

They come in everyone of my monthly prescriptions along with a little aluminum (?) dish and I save it all. Thought the little dishes might come in handy for something someday, too.

Man, I feel for you when it comes to dealing with John Deere. You are certainly not alone with the sticker shock when dealing with that company. I've read nightmare stories of farmers paying outrageous prices to get their broken-down equipment back running. They are left helpless in the fields as the equipment has become so electronic intensive it's nearly impossible to repair it without their trained service technicians. You are very lucky you managed to take care of it yourself. It could have been much worse. Nothing brings the negativity out of me like a visit to a John Deere dealer.
I've always admired your skills and ambition but I think in this case it may have been easier and less time-consuming to paint the truck yourself. Or at least just pay somebody to do it. One of those life lesson things, I guess. Been there done (a lot of) that too. But there is no doubt in my mind you will hold up your end of the bargain. Keep your chin up.

One thing about the DEF system, once you open a jug of DEF use it all and if you can’t don’t save it it will start to crystallize and if you put that into your tank later it can mess up your DEF system and that’s a costly expense as well!!

On a small area you can keep the rake straight and they will roll the small debris along in forward or reverse.
In something like Neil is working on he’d angle the rake and flail them off to the side of each progressive row.
Use a bucket when you’re done or need to pick the row of rocks up.

Have your painter friend hold off on seeding until the fall….unless he’s got some way to water all that acreage! Simply get the finish grade done & seed & mat any sloped areas leaving the rest for cooler temps. They’ll have to keep after the weeds, though! Once they pop ( & they will! ) let them grow just a tad to give you some leaves…hit them with some herbicide in a tank sprayer to keep them at bay. Late August still might be too soon…September for sure will get that grass seed germinating nicely!

@@steveconrad9134 Correct - DEF is 67.5% deionized water and 32.5% urea. However, its shelf life is affected by fluctuating temperatures and exposure to direct sunlight and ambient air. Storage temperatures should not exceed 86°F or go lower than 12°F, tank caps should be closed tightly to avoid evaporation, re-ionization and crystallization. Since DI water has had all metals removed from it, it is commonly known as “hungry water” because of its tendency to attract minerals and metals from ambient air.

Drill a hole in that plastic tool case and throw some kind of descant in the box also, the box can’t breathe,( so to speak) and that causes condensation, we all know what condensation and metal do together. Had the same identical problem with a Komatsu excavator. It was the pilot oil supply that was being interrupted. The pilot oil supply has a solenoid controlled valve and the solenoid was faulty. Komatsu wanted $1300 + for the part. Amazon had the part for $50. Ebay had the part from China, also $50. I ordered both as I was in a hurry. Problem fixed and two years later still works. It was somewhat difficult to diagnose because Solenoids are typically not intermittent when they fail. Good luck. (pilot oil operates everything hydraulic)

$1600 and they couldnt even include the new plastic grip wiith that?!?! When you said 1600 i figured it was at least the whole assembly.. new grip, new rubber boot and all of that..
But, it seems thata the way most manufactureres like to do it. They should have the best price on replacement parts, but they have the worst prices. I loved my Toyota, but they were awfully proud of their parts too.. at least with Toyota there are lots of people making aftermarket parts at a reasonable price..

I guess I'm too old, but I can't stand all the electronic and safety devices on new equipment. Maybe it's the manufacturers' liability concerns or government regulations, but whatever happened to using common sense when operating equipment as opposed to depending on some complicated, expensive device that will eventually malfunction. As far as diesel engines, govt. regulations have severely affected their performance and reliability. And now the darn things require weasel piss to run. I miss my old ford truck with the 6.9L turbo charged International diesel. I should have kept it. Sorry for the rant, I guess I'm just a dinosaur.

I had a john deere skid steer 333g it is a weight seat sensor and just a little quick tip. Always run that machine on full throttle. That way, it doesn't clog your def filter

I know the best way to clean that tool kit would be individually tool by tool. But just spray them all down with WD-40, then wipe them down as you need them. They’ll stay protected, and the WD-40 will do most of your cleaning as they sit in the tray waiting for you. Slightly messy, but ready to go. Thanks for your great videos. God bless you and your family.

My house's 40-year-old A/C gave out at 90 degrees outside, inside 88. The serviceman saved my life. The next day he installed a new A/C & coil. The total cost for the service call & new A/C $6,270.00 plus he replaced the flue on the water heater & furnace.

I had to sell my JD 4440 because they wanted as much for a hydraulic as I paid for the entire machine, so I feel ya! With those old rusty tools, you can get a parts washer at Harbor Freight for a 150 bucks that'll take the rust clean off those old tools!

Don’t feel bad we just had to replace 2 final drives and the head on are 329D. Broke down a job an couldnt get it out of the yard. Was pretty embarrassing but thankfully they worked with us an didn’t mind it sitting in the yard for a few weeks while we fixed it.

By definition, if it’s used SOMETHING is wrong or about to go wrong, and the seller may or may not be aware of it. It is not possible to buy a “new” used piece of equipment.

Vinegar is better than WD-40 for eating rust. I use a 1:1 ratio of water and vinegar soak when restoring old rusty cast iron. White vinegar is much cheaper than WD-40 any way you look at it.
    I hope this helps.

You are always going to get people who think that they know better than others that can be true in certain circumstances but above all if you don’t try you will never know and without trying there is never going to be success every time you finish a little more a little bit better it’s all in aid of the bigger picture and the chance to live and learn and succeed in all things that you do props to you good luck in all your future endeavours be it ponds? Or anything who knows you could even try solar energy to heat the water and have tropical fish in your pond? Not saying you have to but the sky’s the limit to your imagination

Did some temperature conversions to Celcius and 94 degrees is what we call a nice summer's day here in Melbourne Australia. Hahahaha... We don't call it hot until consecutive days at or above 105 degrees Fahrenheit.

Ha! I've heard that we don't know true heat around here, but the humidity does make it feel a bit worse.
I try not to lose my cool too often. There have certainly been times when I feel like it, but I always think about someone else out there having bigger problems than me. Plus I've felt really uncomfortable being around other people when they cuss and carry on about a break down or mishap. It really just sets things back and doesn't help anything so better just to suck it up and keep moving forward.

That face you make when leaving JD dealer is called John Deere face! I have that face every time I leave my dealer. But I never have been able to afford or justify a brand new piece of equipment, so I just deal with repairs from time to time.

Add up the your time lost stopping, resetting and starting again and the replacement part is cheap. Yes it stings the wallet but you’re back home to the wife and kids sooner with the job completed.
