Backing out of a passenger station is not unheard of, but straight through is more common in small communities. Rails in a small town is common though, extend the station track or place the station further back along that track. Looking good!!!...
This video displayed one of the most realistic sides of the hobby. Each decision you make will affect how other parts of your layout will evolve. The more you play with your trains the more situations will come up that require research and money. Be prepared to invest in this wonderful hobby. It will be so worth it. You have the added benefit of having viewers who have been model railroaders for years. They will gently guide your choices. And if their comments aren’t gentle, you may gently remove them. If you keep making honest videos that show the real situations that come up when starting a new layout, you will keep the loving followers you already have, and continue to get new subscribers. Awesome. I’ve never been into trains, but my wife has been pushing me to build a shelf train layout to circle the great room in our log home. I finally caved in and purchased a G Scale system over the weekend as her Xmas gift.
Very nice. If you wish to, you have room to build a “wye” to turn the engines to the opposite direction. And with a track addition could even wye the whole train (usually passenger trains) onto a main. Just ideas, looks great the way it is. Thank you for another pleasant morning.
I’ve been building the Great Northern depot in Minneapolis, and there is really two kinds of depots the ones that are along side a siding that’s off of the mainline, and in the city, where they back the passenger trains down many tracks to the covered area, where many RR s have ticketing areas, but think about your locomotives having to refuel or add sand you may need other things at your station, as I recall as a kid the stations weren’t exactly downtown but close
I was just watching a video on the St. Johnsbury & Lake Champlain line and saw a saw mill that I would like to model with my S scale trains once I set it up. It turns out that it's in Gallup Mills, and it's not too far from Lyndonville! You have such beautiful scenery around you!
I’m glad you’re having so much fun with your railroad, but they make insulated track connectors so you can separate the rails into the train shed, and park one of your locomotives in there
Two things come to mind right away about those passenger cars derailing: 1) They are too light. (1 oz + 1/2 oz for each inch of length); 2) wheels out-of-gauge. One thing comes to mind right away about those passenger cars uncoupling: 1) plastic couplers. Changing everything to Kadees is a good idea. And hello to the nice puppy.
I tend to agree with the idea to have the passenger depot along the mainline; especially for regular passenger service, trying to be as efficient and timely as possible. If it were an excursion railroad maybe efficiency wouldn’t be as important and a back up move more acceptable. you could repurpose the spur for a small rail served business otherwise. In the long run, however, it’s your railroad and your vision and operate it as you see fit. Thanks for sharing your progress and passion for the hobby!
You could have bought a station in kit form from Walthers for half of that price. You would have to put it together and paint it, like most model railroaders.
@@Kens265 It is suppose to be fun to build a layout, and putting the buildings, rolling stock, and locomotives together are what makes you a model railroader, and not just a box opener.
Ken the station will be great near the residential area but you need two more things. Firstly two parallel tracks, one going and one returning. So you need a matching platform and a walkover footbridge bridge for passengers. (Remember also that stations must be on straight tracks, so no gap for passengers to jump over when getting in or out of their carriage!) looking good. 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃😁
Time to start using your builder’s experience, miniaturized and start building your own kits. Lauren can paint and you can assemble and reduce your cost by 80% and quadrupling the fun.
Building scale model structures is another craft all by itself. It's a very time consuming process. Just think about how much Ken put into building that miniature garage a year or so back. The whole thing was made of pop sticks and tooth picks. He probably built full size garages in about the same number of manhours.
Funny, I just got this, 14 hrs. Later. When can we buy tickets to ride your train?❤ Just a few days to surgery. IF you can let us know the time. I will pray during the surgery. GOD BLESS YOU. GLORY BE TO GOD. 12°☆☆☆ Dusting of snow in my area. North got lots. ❤❤ SE MICHIGAN 🙏 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🇺🇸🙏🇮🇱🙏🏡☕️☕️🔥🀄🙏
Ken, I'd lengthen the station line and incorporate into the main line on both ends. That way, the passenger consist is not in the way of freight going thru. I'd also make the station boarding/ departing areas longer. The model you already have with its modding roof height could also be incorporated in the other station waiting areas.
Why don’t you put the rail station on the curve in the triangle area with the siding rail on one side and the main rail as the loading. It does not make sense to have the station on a siding area.
I would just put a passing siding at the train station, continue the track around bend ... switch back into the main. Check the hang down shank on the Kadee/Couplers, one is probably too low.- bend as needed.
@@Kens265 If you have kadees - yes. Or Bachman EZ (plastic ones) have a steel shank. Bend carefully with needle nose. Kadee also makes a special tool for it.
Ken, you are mixing up your code of track. Atlas makes code 83 and code 100 which is the rail height from the railroad ties. I noticed the turnouts you received in the mail are code 83 and your other track is code 100, so the rail heights do not match. Atlas does make transitional rail joiners to connect the different track but, you should stay with one code of track or the other, so everything is uniform.
@@Kens265 Ken, it happens to the best of us. No worries. Model railroading is an expensive hobby, so you don't want to waste money on the wrong things. I would suggest going to the library and getting a starter model train book which explains the basics about track, couplers, electronics (which has changed a lot over the years for the better) and modeling in general etc. It will make things easier and more enjoyable for you. I have trains that are 40 years old that still run great. It is a great hobby. if you have a local hobby shop or train club in your area that would be a great resource as well. I really enjoy your garage and other building projects and have learned a lot about framing watching your videos. I hope all goes well with your upcoming knee surgery. Enjoy your retirement.

Lots of work goes into the details of putting together a railroad track and the creativity is endless! Fun to watch!

Ken, how about extending the track past the station and connecting to the track that goes next to the wall.
That’s an interesting idea. I’ll look into that

Hi Ken, those turnouts are looking good, (in the U.K. we call those junction points).

I would slide it closer to the switch with passenger platforms on either side. They don’t have to be the same length.

all way amazing to see you ken and kaya make my weekend
Maybe extend the covered walk on the new station to cover more cars...
