I like them all for different reasons, but the BMW has my vote every time for the simple fact it doesn't rely on touchscreen for the infotainment controls. I have an X3 now and I LOVE the controller down by my gear shift, it's far safer than using a touchscreen where you have to take your eyes off the road while you press icons. And it was really easy to get used to the toggle, after a short time you memorize the clicks and do it instinctively WHILE keeping your eyes on the road where they should be.

I bought a new xc60, broke down on the way home after collecting it brand new, faulty wire on fuel pump, had trouble with EGR valve since, had too have a new type of EGR valve and cooler, running ok now.
i think the jaguar is the best from these three, even if it isnt aswell built. it has the best badge and the styling is the most cohesive so it wont date as much as the other two.
Ridiculously over the top and repeated criticisms of the X2's interior design in the review. To my eyes X2's interior looks fine and is far easier to use than XC40's, which is far too reliant on the touchscreen, and has too many functions on it.
X2: Do not touch the screen when driving. The central control is super easy to use, completely convenient. IMO the touch screen is should rather be seen as a useful add-on for the pillion seat passenger. Otherwise unnecessary, and as said, raises safety concerns.
Had my X2 for about a month , love it , nippy light on the steering, fuel consumption is reasonable, toys are good easy to operate, nothing to moan about
You have a point there. The X2 is the coupe version of the X1 and will, predictability, be found wanting for space in the company of the E Pace and XC40. The X2 ride is fettled to be a tad firmer as well. A case of comparing apples and oranges?

Just paid deposit today on the R Pro T5. If you like to drive you have to have the T5 with close on 250bhp. The T4 is just not powerful enough at about 190bhp. The car feels much more relaxed with the bigger engine with a small variance in mph. I test drove against the new Macan 2lt and can vouch this is a more enjoyable car with much more “tec” as standard. Also, the Volvo is a completely new platform and does look much more modern.
Yeah take that commentors ... talking about our clothes 🤣 Great first co-lab video. Really liked you are having proper conversations from the off rather than taking turns reading spec sheets whilst driving the cars. . It also appears there is a bit of a Kirsty and Phil dynamic going on 🤣
Having driven the 3, I choose the X2 xdrive 20d. The volvo is boring to drive and the E-Pace would be great but too heavy and the infotainment does not convince me... maybe because I have the same on my F-Pace... So I go back to BMW because I drive a lot and I love to drive. 🙋🏻♂️✌️
i recently bought a bmw x2..... it's absolutely brilliant... but it's for a specific niche of the market.. exactly as is the mercedes gla...its for us who don't really want to buy an SUV, we just want a higher ride and somewhat bigger volume than a hatchback, without making compromises in the area of sporty driving.... x2 doesn't belong in this test... its just the poor man's macan
I agree - BMW X2 owner here. This review is a bit biased towards Volvo. Tested all three cars and the BMW won coz of the sporty drive. Felt more in contact with the road and the lower stance..nice!
A shame we didn't get the 28i or 25d variants in the UK. Though the 4-pot diesel sounds loud n rough and feels slow at town speeds compared to the 2L petrol.

I think its look will also last for years to come and I am excited to go and check one out for myself. Hope you all continue these shared reviews from time to time. I really enjoyed this one and your banter between you two! (yaaaaawn says Ginny LOL!)
Why does James set the cam inside the car when reviewing the rear of a car giving us a good impression of how practical and comfortable the car is and Ginny outside? How are we expected to view the interior of the rear when Ginny's body is obstructing the view? Don't you have a protocol for everyone to follow there at Carbuyer's?
Great video James and the interaction between you and Ginny was a joy to watch. I hope this new formula is here to stay and I look forward to the next 'double act' video 😃
At least BMW continue to offer manual controls for things like climate control. Anyone who has driven a car that has almost every control hidden in a touch screen menu will understand how distracting this can be. I really don't understand how manufacturers get away with it - we aren't allowed to use a phone while driving (for obvious reasons) yet basic controls are on a touch screen that causes the driver to look away. Try dialling temperature up or down with your hand moving around as you drive across a bumpy road. So BMW interior may be considered dreary, I think it holds true to its values of putting the driver first because it allows them to concentrate on driving, while intuitively placing controls within easy reach.
Because it's the latest from BMW in the premium compact segment. It's just the coupe version is more compromised than X1, and XC40 is somewhere between X1 and X2 IMHO

The bin is actually really a smart idea in the XC40. The douple tap automatic shifter is a pain...The "cristal" shifter version is laughable, rather slushy than elegant. That applies to the ones available in larger BMWs as well. The XC40 indeed offers quite large space but that also applies to the X1. Forget the X2. The BMW X1 is the one that should be compared with the others. Cheers.

We have been testing various cars in this category. I agree that the Beemer may not seem to have the poshest interior. However most cars nowadays are built around a touchscreen that demands multiple touches and looking at the screen. That is not only cumbersome but also very dangerous that probably should be banned. So having initially been interested in the Volvo that one experience is already a definite showstopper! VW group included. Safety first by a mile! Although it may be very subjective I just do not understand people who go for X2s instead of X1s, X4s instead of X3s as in a nice package the former variants kind of offer the same feeling yet significantly more space. It may actually be quite a success from the manufacturer's point of view, the customers are the ones I just cannot understand.
