Thank you so much for this interview. Lovely that Moffat clears up some rumors, and that hint of a smile when the Zygons where mentioned might just hint at their return.
River was conceived on her parent's wedding night, which didn't happen until the very end, after the 'Big Bang' occurred. At the reception Amy remembers the Doctor and brings him back, after he restarted the universe. =D
Apparently these people failed to notice the camera that does the over the shoulder shot of Steven to you being reflected in the BAFTA award behind Steven in his single shots.
So pretty much; - 8 episodes - return of Ice Warriors/Cybermen redesign - 60 minute anniversary movie - An Adventure in Time and Space (Documentary) - Christmas Special - Series 8 - return of Zygons By the way; Its likely the 11th Doctor will regenerate at some point this year or next due to Matt Smith only being signed on for three years - when he joined. He can possibly stay for another contract of 3-4 years but that would require him signing on again and depend on audience reviews of him.
7:05 Idk why but just the way Moffat said "forever". When Moffat says he doesn't know something, he truly doesn't. But him saying forever makes me thing him and Matt have already talked about it and have scheduled/know when he's going to leave.
Interesting. I actually felt the Pandorica Opens/Big Bang was my favourite story since the series came back, it's nice to know its writer liked it too.;) For all the negative things I've said and thought about some of Moffat's stories, I cannot fault the guy's passion and enthusiasm. I also agree with his stance on "if there's no story I want to write with [blank], I won't write it". Ignoring this gets you stuff like Spider-man 3, where it seemed clear the team didn't want Venom but put him in.
Matt just scored a Hollywood movie directed by Ryan Gosling. He's surely gonna get a massive Who pay raise now if Hollywood is calling. I think it would be smart to stay on for season 8 and 9 to keep his star momentum up (so Americans who don't know him can check him out as the Doctor after his American movie debut) then he can make way for the 12th as his demand increases.
Easily the most wonderfully frustrating man working in TV today. Impossible not to love his enthusiasm. And I actually felt the same way about Beast Below until I rewatched just recently. Not nearly as bad as I remember it being and actually some really nice call backs to the Time War backstory.
Sorry for second comment, but he said something odd. Blink was what caught me as an American. Without that episode, I might never have gotten into this series. Still though, Pandorica was my fav, even if it wasnt my first. :D
Actually, the CGI has to be done twice because to film in 3D you effectively have two cameras, so the CGI has to be put onto the footage from each. It's not just a 2D and a 3D version. It'll show normally for people without a 3D TV because they'll only broadcast one set of the footage on BBC 1, but broadcast the two interleaved on BBC 3D.
Hell yeah, Matt Smith forever. Also, the big bang. I'm surprised I didn't get it before LOL. I agree, that has been probably the best interview with him, thank you, both of you!
Nathalie, while the cut back and forth without a face to look might be a bit strange on some level, it's not uncommon for most standard interview formats. Ed, correct me if I'm wrong, but you used a 2 camera format in this interview? Nathalie, the types of wide angle shots with both interview participants along with over the shoulder shots (The Daily Show and Colbert Report) often use 3 cameras or multiple takes at different angles for editing reasons. Finally, look at the lighting, same room.
My best choice of Steven's stories: Blink, The Girl in the Fireplace and The Empty Child. :D I think memorable because of the scripting~! Goodluck to all who'll attend Gallifrey One.
Well actually I believe they found a loop hole when River gave the Doctor her regenerations in LKH. Honestly that could mean he has all the rest of her's as well now, allowing for DW to continue.
Being a Digital Media Student automatically deems you totally correct and reliable in your assessment. Therefore while I, not a Digital Media Student, can pinpoint a moment in which the interview audio (while Ed is speaking, and Moffat laughs) syncs up with the film (Moffat laughs) and can therefore deem that the interview is real.. must be incorrect and insuitable for this judgement due to my lack of media studies.
1) There is no face-to-face because they didn't set up a camera for a two shot of that kind. You only see Moffat's back when Ed asks the questions because that's the camera angle being used. 2) The background color is different because of lighting and distance. Moffat is closer to the wall, which is lighted differently than the wall behind Ed. Ed's right, you need luck with your studies. This stuff would be obvious to a 1st-semester media student...and to most viewers over 5 years old.
Matt has been the current doctor for nearly 4 years now (2010,2011,2012,2013), but i agree he is doing a great job, still feels fresh and has plenty more to give in the role. no need for him to leave just yet :) and yeah there are all sorts of hints to how many times he can regenerate up until in "the Deadly Assassin" they state 12 regeneration's = 13 body's and that sort of stuck with the fans and writers so yeah lol
I would love to see an episode written by Russel T. Davis. It's not that I don't like Moffat, no I love his style, but Russel is as Steven said a god .
I have to agree I think the Big Bang was fantastic :) and the beast below was his poorest, which is a shame because there was some great ideas in that story. Also please to see theres going to be more than 1 special, great news
Actually for 3D you render the images twice, once for each eye, that's why he said that. But then to "convert" to 2D is no problem, you just use one of those, the difference between them is minimal.
@Ed Stradling - Can you possibly confirm when you actually filmed this? I need the information to do a bit of cataloguing at Tardis Data Core, the Doctor Who wiki. Thanks. :-)
one question i have always wondered is if they new 50 years ago that doctor who was going to be this populary, i wondered if they would have given him and infinite amount of regeneration but not make him immortal meaning that if he chose not to regeneate he could still die Because back in the day and i mean 50 years ago if they show was to ever end or did not do well all one had to do was drain his lives and that would be the end of it. Now that is so popular we kind of stuck with 1 more change
I've been so upset hearing that there would be on 60 minute special, thank god he himself denied it. I know in tv and film business people deny a lot of things. but this is one thing I will believe
If you've ever watched The Sarah Jane adventures... The death of the doctor(or something like that) the doctor himself says the maximum amount of times a time lord can regenerate is 100 or around that mark... I might just be bad writing or a continuity error but that's what I want to believe
No, Moff, "The Beast Below" is the only DW episode that's ever brought tears to my eyes. And continues to do so almost every time I watch it. That was a fantastic episode!
Disappointed by the creepy weirdness of the TARDIS interior in INVASION OF TIME? Man, I was a kid when I saw that and thought it was BRILLIANT! I loved them using real world interiors for the different parts of the TARDIS. If they all look like roundel walls, I'm going to be very bored.
i have a question for Steven Moffat ,will you soon come up with a new and more creepy creature than the angels so scary that it would make some one think there real?
I love Matt Smith, but I don't want him forever! D: Fresh faces are what makes this show amazing.. And I pretty much thought they were going to kill Matt off shortly after Oswin left as the new companion.. Which will probably be around 2 seasons later, yes? I don't want Matt for another 4+ seasons. It would get boring after a while. Plus I want to see Matt in new roles!
Dittoes. In original DW, the Silurians were my least favorite DW creature, especially with that rubbish red jewel thing at the top of their heads. The redesign makes them one of my most favorite. I would like to see a return of the Sea Devils, though. The show indicates that they and the Silurians are related. To me, Silurians #1, Silurians #2 and the Sea Devils are all just different branches of the same species.
nope not untill next year as they are filming the 50th special this year and the christmas special meaning series 8 propbly wont air untill mid-late in the year next year
Thank you so much for this interview. Lovely that Moffat clears up some rumors, and that hint of a smile when the Zygons where mentioned might just hint at their return.
Now I'm going to watch The Big Bang with my eyes open. Great interview.
This is my favourite Moffat interview - very well done.
Fantastic Interview! Great questions, and I'm all excited for the 50th anniversary again, I think he knows what he's doing.
Best Moffat interview ever! Thank You!
I really hope there is more than just one 60 minute episode in November!!
He denied the one 60 minute special rumour, but sneakily avoided to say what we're actually getting.
Damn you Mr Moffat!
Love him. Ever since I was a kid and ran home to watch Press Gang. Great, keep it going.
Staying away from Twitter had done him good. Love him, great stuff, keep it coming.
River was conceived on her parent's wedding night, which didn't happen until the very end, after the 'Big Bang' occurred. At the reception Amy remembers the Doctor and brings him back, after he restarted the universe. =D
Steven Moffat said it we all heard it Santa is real! 1:43

they confirmed that the special will have ALL THE DOCTORS! Whoo
So much for just one 60 minute episode!!
7:05 Idk why but just the way Moffat said "forever". When Moffat says he doesn't know something, he truly doesn't. But him saying forever makes me thing him and Matt have already talked about it and have scheduled/know when he's going to leave.
great interview! many thanks for uploading this....:D

I absolutely love this man!
It has been said that the 50th anniversary will have multiple episodes over the course of the month :)
Sorry for second comment, but he said something odd. Blink was what caught me as an American. Without that episode, I might never have gotten into this series. Still though, Pandorica was my fav, even if it wasnt my first. :D

Whats funny about this whole thing is its cleary Steven Moffet, great interview.
My best choice of Steven's stories: Blink, The Girl in the Fireplace and The Empty Child. :D I think memorable because of the scripting~! Goodluck to all who'll attend Gallifrey One.
Very insightful indeed!
Ha! so naming it the big bang was deliberate! I always wondered that :p
This is easily my favourite comment of all.
At least we know the Zygons will make an appearance now!
Well actually I believe they found a loop hole when River gave the Doctor her regenerations in LKH. Honestly that could mean he has all the rest of her's as well now, allowing for DW to continue.

In fairness he's never denied it ;)

I never noticed the title of the Big Bang.... god...
MOFFAT!!!!
I would love to see an episode written by Russel T. Davis. It's not that I don't like Moffat, no I love his style, but Russel is as Steven said a god .
Love this!
I always wondered if Steven ever thought of a joke about "The Big Bang." Never expected that that was his idea from the beginning!
They didn't talk about River in the upcoming season! We want more River!!
12 : 41 : Someone, behind the camera open a beer ! Cheers Mate !
I like the redesigned silurains
It will air on BBCHD in 3D and on BBC 1 in 2D
and the rumors that there would be no more episodes after series 7.
still need a better explanation of how Strax is back as apposed to "oh a friend of the Doctors brought him back"
to encourage people to look at my other videos!
She's in the finale.
I have to agree I think the Big Bang was fantastic :)
and the beast below was his poorest, which is a shame because there was some great ideas in that story.
Also please to see theres going to be more than 1 special, great news
"The Big Bang" MY MIND!
No, River was conceived on their Wedding night, right after the end of the episode.
Actually for 3D you render the images twice, once for each eye, that's why he said that. But then to "convert" to 2D is no problem, you just use one of those, the difference between them is minimal.

Or maybe it'll be in the cinema. :P
I would love to see a return of the Ice Warriors an enemy not used enough as were the Yeti!
one question i have always wondered is if they new 50 years ago that doctor who was going to be this populary, i wondered if they would have given him and infinite amount of regeneration but not make him immortal meaning that if he chose not to regeneate he could still die Because back in the day and i mean 50 years ago if they show was to ever end or did not do well all one had to do was drain his lives and that would be the end of it. I love how he admitted beast below was a mess
I've been so upset hearing that there would be on 60 minute special, thank god he himself denied it. I know in tv and film business people deny a lot of things. but this is one thing I will believe
total agree
That's why he said all the CGI had to be done twice. Once in 3D and once not. So yes it will be normal, thank god.
Steven Moffat reminds me alot of David Tennant.
11:40 - Now we all know, don't we Moffat?
But, what if, a few months later... "The rumors of one 60-minute film are absolute nonsense. It's going to be one 20-minute film!"
He said till the end of time...
Wouldn't be the first time, time ends :P
EVERYBODY WATCH HIS INTRO SEQUENCE! IT IS EFFING AMAZING!!!
50x better!
Matt. Forever. Yesssss!!! :)
i agree
He might've said it as some kind of hint as to when he's going to leave.
They look pretty similar to the old ones to me.
Last Tuesday 13th I believe.
i wonder what they had try to agree on for christopher ecclestone to come back???? it would have been great
LOL. Steven giving orders: Bring it over here! :) Also, I'm an actress. I love stage directions!
If you've ever watched The Sarah Jane adventures... The death of the doctor(or something like that) the doctor himself says the maximum amount of times a time lord can regenerate is 100 or around that mark... I might just be bad writing or a continuity error but that's what I want to believe
So I'm counting 8 episodes, a 50th anniversary episode and an xmas special. We only get 10 episodes this year?
omg there useing ggi effects for will pat jon i read on the daily mail
Next time, if ever PLEASE ask him if the 8th Doctor will return. And tell him that he should.
so season 8 wont be starting this year?
Willam Goldmen!
highly doubtful, Chris Ec already said he wasnt going to
No, Moff, "The Beast Below" is the only DW episode that's ever brought tears to my eyes. And continues to do so almost every time I watch it. That was a fantastic episode!
Just out of curiosity, why no embedding available?
Disappointed by the creepy weirdness of the TARDIS interior in INVASION OF TIME? Man, I was a kid when I saw that and thought it was BRILLIANT! I loved them using real world interiors for the different parts of the TARDIS. If they all look like roundel walls, I'm going to be very bored.
Of course it will.
No idea!
Wonder if there are any plans to film in New Zealand with Peter Jackson directing :)
It's going to be in 3D D: What about the people without a 3D tv? Is it going to show normally for us? D:
i have a question for Steven Moffat ,will you soon come up with a new and more creepy creature than the angels so scary that it would make some one think there real?
I love Matt Smith, but I don't want him forever! D:
Fresh faces are what makes this show amazing.. And I pretty much thought they were going to kill Matt off shortly after Oswin left as the new companion.. Which will probably be around 2 seasons later, yes?
I don't want Matt for another 4+ seasons. It would get boring after a while. Plus I want to see Matt in new roles!
From what I understand, Matt wants to try and beat Tom Baker's record~
how were the silurians ruined?
they are a different specie of silurian.
and in different there is... diferent.
The Big Bang had a double meaning O_o
bring back River! :(
no Master..?? :O
Dittoes. In original DW, the Silurians were my least favorite DW creature, especially with that rubbish red jewel thing at the top of their heads. The redesign makes them one of my most favorite. I would like to see a return of the Sea Devils, though. The show indicates that they and the Silurians are related. nope not untill next year as they are filming the 50th special this year and the christmas special meaning series 8 propbly wont air untill mid-late in the year next year
Actually, I thought the New Who version of the Silurians were extremely cool. Like a lot of things, it's down to personal taste!
Yes! He denied a one 60 mins anniversary special!
Great to see him actually cheery as opposed to the miserable moff we've seen alot in recent months..
I agree.the 50th anniversary. . . Who knows? I hope it is good too. I didn't like most of series 7, frankly series 5 and 6 were way better.
