I know this is an old video but I had to take the time and opportunity to say thanks for creating and sharing this video. I am very much a novice but love my fishing, Going out recently, I appreciated how much the type of braid to leader knot can assist with casting distance or significantly impede it. As someone whom has learnt and become comfortable with joining these two lines with a double uni knot I felt it was important to move away from what was just easy and comfortable to me now and do it right if I was going to go to the time and effort to go out and fish at all. I have watched a few videos prior to this and honestly, this type of knot looked intimidating and too advanced for the amateur fisho like me. Now understanding that something as small can impact both casting and the potential landing of a big fish I spent a few hours today watching a local video on how to tie this knot. I just could not get it and could not follow exactly what this person was doing. I ended giving up but not on the knot. I found this video watched it once and then followed along completing my first FG. Knowing this must have been a fluke, I turned off the video and commenced on competing it again another two times and in comparison to this video....perfect! I then tied the same two lines(being 30lb braid to 50lb leader just for the exercise) with a double-uni knot and the size and bulky nature of this knot compared to the 3 x FGs completed with the same size line was simply unbelievable. I will never ever do a double uni knot again for the time to takes to complete this. Do it once and do it properly. Thank you so much. You have helped me immensely. Travis Melbourne, Australia
Best video ever! I'm a 57yr old retiree going back offshore after 15-year absence. Was intimated by this knot and used to tie the GT knot. But after watching this video, I have to say i was able tie this knot after only one try. It's now my go-to knot for braid to mono/fluoro. So a big thank you Capt Ken (Nauti Knots). Keep up the great work and all the best!
Dude, finally! So many TH-cam videos on this knot, and finally someone has made it easy and quick to tie. Thank you so much for this video! SUBSCRIBE for dang sure! I fish the Pacific Northwest for bottom fish, and now I have what I needed to go from braid to leader. Bye bye Double Uni!
Thanks for the video, L'm 69 years young and walleye fish and cat fish, it's my first time fishing with Braid, after watching my son out fish me every time out and he talked about felling the bottom and the fish bite I decided it's time to learn how to tie braid to mono. Your video made it so easy. THANKS.
Hey Captain! As a guy with some busted up hands from a longer life, your FG knot method is the easiest & best way, especially out on the water. Thanks you for sharing Mate! Cheers from DownUnder...
Angler from Canada here, been reviewing numerous old TH-cam videos on the FG knot and have found your emphasis on the direction of the securing overhand knots to be so so important. I was up and down on tieing success and finally realized my failures were all because of the error in knot direction. Thanks dude
I've been trying to learn the FG knot since the beginning of the year after years of using the double uni and the yucatan. I've transitioned to micro guides on a couple poles and those aforementioned knots bumping through the guides and reel eyelet made me wince each time. Your video and instruction without question, has been the best, simplest, and easiest to understand of the dozen or so I've watched. Thanks so much for posting!
Makes so much sense! I hated the FG knot because of the supposed required tension and I did in fact lose some fish to a knot that slipped as well as when I was cinching it down during the tying process. I'll practice your method and maybe I'll start using the FG again; I've done well with the Alberto knot and haven't lost a fish yet. hmmmmm, decisions decisions. Thanx for a great demo!!
My dude! Thank you so much for making this video 3 YEARS AGO for a FG Knot. I literally watched 2 other YT videos and for some reason it kept going backwards and finger were turning purple due to tension😭…. Found your video and got it on the first try!!!🔥
I've been using this method of tying the FG for years now, once you get practice at it easiest knot to tie by far while on a boat. Zips through your guides with ease, great for long leaders.
Thanks Ken, easiest FG by far! Pulling my hair out with other methods, braid stuck in my teeth or near amputations of my little finger. Tight lines and cheers from South Australia.
A big thanks from Wales UK. Was just about to give up on this knot until I followed your way. Took about 3 or 4 attempts but when you get it you get it 😊. Nice one 👍
“” FINALLY “” an easy description. I’m going to make my very first FG knot today to use on my new Flippin Rod and Reel. I’m using 50 lb. Fluorocarbon & 65 lb. Braid..
Hey Captain Ken, thanks for the enlightening video on the knot I have been shying away from because I thought it was just to troublesome to tie…your video has cleared that all up…I have found one fatal flaw with the FG knot though, and that is when the mainline braid has a higher lb test than the leader or top shot, it just won’t dig in well, even though I passed the mainline in the correct direction, as deftly shown in the video…what I’ve done successfully to keep the union compact and dig in correctly is that I put a small single half hitch on the leader/topshot, and followed it up with opposing half hitches, like 4, then clipped the tag ends, and heat treated the braid mainline to close the ends…the FG remains nice, compact, and tight, and slides through the guides as designed…thanks again for the education….
I have watched so many videos on this knot that were impossible to follow but this tutorial is by far the best and simplest I have seen! Thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks for the video. It's probably the best out there. I'm using 20 lb. braid to 17 lb. mono. The problem I had is that when I tried to pull down the latest over/under, it pulled the 5 inches of mono down toward my clinched finger and thumb, preventing the tighten. I think I licked that by holding the mono up with my teeth.
Just bought myself a Millerods Grub Freak with super narrow guides at the tip. This video has been a life saver. Ive been using the Yucatan knot and the sound it makes bumping against the guides was driving me insane.
This is fantastic mate. Very happy to be able to do this knot properly without any difficulty. It took just 3 attempts to get a beautiful knot. Thank you!
Man I've tried other ways of tying this knot and always just revert back to other knots out of frustration. Found your video and got it perfect on the first try. Thank you!!
I have tried many ways to tie this knot and hands down this by far is the most practical way to tie the FG when in real life conditions on the boat. Excellent presentation!
To those that say this doesn't work with light line, I just learned this knot by watching this video using 20lb braid and 15lb floro. You can slow the video playback speed way down to follow along. Works perfectly. Messed up a few times but it just takes practice and attention to those overhand knots. Much slimmer than the usual double uni I had been using. Thanks for making this!
So how do you prevent the 5 inch section of mono from being pulled over when you try to tighten the latest over-under loop? I had to hold it with my teeth.
Thank you for this video..... finally a simple video of tying fg knot without tension.... its easy and simple... mastered it within 2 watches.... thanks!
Thanks this is tremendous! Best upgrade in a long time. Casting eels at night I no longer need to watch for the spro swivel to keep it from slamming into my guide. I can use a much longer leader and which really helps on the rocks. I am counting the days by re-watching my bookmarked videos (4 degrees this morning in Worcester) and I like to rewind this one over and over to get that motion memorized. Thanks!
loved the tutorial, first one I've seen think out of the box and used the mainline side to help create the knot. Also first one I've done that consistently sinched on the leader through the whole knot. thankyou.
that was the best way i have seen to date. i gave up on the fg because if not perfect it will slip and my eyes are not good enought to see what i was doing but this looks fail safe so i will have to try it. thank you
@@dsktsunami it looks like yours and now my favorite knot for braid to mono. your way is so fast and easy i now have no problem changing leaders on the water. i don't have to see good but just remember under over 12 times both ends of braid on leader, then over under twice both leader and braid. the key is that last over under. i then hold knot until braid feels like it is digging in and smooths out, then pull tight. two more over under braid only, clip tag and done. thank you sir as i love that knot.
Thank you for the great way to tie this knot! A superior method for this old guy with arthritis. Far better knot as compared to the GT that I have been using. Once again thank you!

Thanks for the vid. Lost three lures after using an Albright. Really helpful and easier than the other instructional videos..
Thanks
Dude, from a fellow Captain, thanks! This is soooooo much easier than the tension method! Excellent video too.

15 pound isn’t what their referring to as light line. That would be like 8-10 pound imo
@@trumpking4874 yea, well as an update, I am now tying it with 6lb j-flouro to 15 lb j-braid.
So how do you prevent the 5 inch section of mono from being pulled over when you try to tighten the latest over-under loop? I had to hold it with my teeth.
Yes sir, so easy to follow and good steady camera work compared to many other FG videos. I was always intimidated until now! Going to practice.
Thanks
Great video mate! Tight lines Captain Ken
Thanks
Thank you, sir! There is a lot of nonsense pertaining to the tying of this knot. You have just saved a lot of people from frustration.

Good afternoon, your video is very good. Thank you so much. Greetings from Argentina. Atilio.
Thanks for the video
I don't feel I need fluro for stealth , which is why I didn't want to put it on my main line , I know people can catch braid direct
But I realised that fish have teeth and they may end up cutting and fraying the braid so that's what taught me to put it on in the end
I've seen people's lures come off and they're lures snap and they lost money , lures and fish which made me want to fish braid direct
So I need a good Knott , thanks for your time making this video, much appreciated
For this great explaination you get a sub!
Thanks
Your the man ken iv tried tying that knot and give up on it because all the other sights say use your teeth pretty hard when you don’t have any 😂😂😂😂
I'm glad you enjoyed it

I like this knot the one looks nice and clean and fresh well done.
Best one so far.
now this is much easy to tie.. tq brahh.

Thanks for this very clear video. I've been experimenting with this technique versus the other FG approach with "tension", using 50 # braid and 80# mono, making tarpon rigs. In my opinion this technique is a little simpler to tie, and I don't have the occasional failure as with the "tension" technique. As emphasized, the key is snugging down each loop, in the pinch between thumb and finger.
Absolutely right
Nice one and fast and easy.. Thanks bro..
