A couple of things on the hydroboost. Each pedal press takes a fair amount of fluid volume so a factory boost car has a larger reservoir. Most hydroboost systems have an accumulator to allow a couple of power assisted brake presses with the engine off. ( that silver or gold can facing forward n the booster ) Pump the brakes a couple of times with the engine off and this could overflow the reservoir. Some factory power steering reservoir caps are non vented, this can lead to pressurizing the reservoir leading to leaks / return hoses blown off the fitting. I've seen a blown off return hose on a non hydroboost 90's GM car that was driven without the PS pump turning. Power steering is generally volume neutral, meaning, if you turn the steering wheel with the engine running, the PS fluid level doesn't change. With hydroboost, the level will drop when the brake pedal is pressed. then go back up when the pedal is released.
@@claymillican25 A vent might help however, if the reservoir is tool small, fluid might be pushed out the vent. Maybe run the fluid on the low side and a 1/16" hole in the plastic cap as a test? Some caps have a rubber flap to act as a baffle,( kind of like some small engine gas caps ) so don't drill through that. Running fluid level below the " Cold " line when Hot would be my first test in addition to the vented cap. Also, none of this would cause intermittent power assist, just fluid pushed out / return hose pushed off the fitting. Loss of steering and brake assist points to dirt in the system holding the pressure relief in the pump open and/or holding the constant volume regulator open. I don't " think " that a hydro boost problem can cause a brake _and_ steer assist loss however I've never had that type of failure. There is an externally accessible flow divider valve on the hydroboost in the vicinity of where the master cylinder mounts. Without being in front of the truck to see the actual setup, it is a bit difficult to solve the problem remotely. Do you have clear and complete vid of the entire setup?
@@claymillican25 Also, I get real concerned when there are oil leaks that make a mist. Oil spray + hot exhaust = fire and a bad day for all. Maybe a remote power steering vent?
@@bobroberts2371 you obviously are very familiar with this stuff 😁 Everything on the firewall is new, the master cylinder and the hydro boost all of it is stock Dodge for a 2004 Dodge 2500. It all bolted right up. The power steering pump was original to the truck a 2004 1500. The one thing we didn’t do was the truck originally had a huge power steering cooler that we didn’t put back in. What is happening and it did it today is you lose power brakes but still have power steering. When this happens if you turn the wheels lock to lock then absolutely stand on the brakes it takes a few seconds then the pedal will depress a bit then you have power brakes again. I am just not familiar with this system. I really appreciate your help.
@@claymillican25 said " you obviously are very familiar with this stuff " Familiar with this enough due to my 80 Chevy pickup having hydro as well as an oval track car I put together + I'm a machinery guy. " What is happening and it did it today is you lose power brakes but still have power steering. When this happens if you turn the wheels lock to lock then absolutely stand on the brakes it takes a few seconds then the pedal will depress a bit then you have power brakes again. " This makes me think that the flow divider in the hydroboost is stuck feeding only the steering. Turning the steering to the stop raises line pressure and that additional pressure shifts the flow diverter valve to neutral. Also, are you sure the booster is plumbed property as in pump to boost line hasn't been swapped with boost to steering line? Note, the flow divider valve I'm speaking of also controls pressure for brake assist and is mechanically tied to the brake pedal. It works like this, press on the brake pedal / valve moves / assist piston moves catching up to the valve / brake assist is in a balanced state. There is probably a better vid on YT explaining how the system works. Do you have access to anyone that knows about industrial / tractor hydraulics? If they look at a system diagram / exploded view, they could quickly understand how these things work.

I have much respect for you and am privileged to have you share this with us, you asked jokingly why do we put up with watching your videos, the answer is you sharing something so raw and we relate to you as a father. The trick to waste gates are to run the lightest spring that you can get away with that gives you the minimum amount of boost you want to run. The waste gate controller will help you increase the pressure by bleeding off the vacuum / pressure (depending on how elaborate you want the system), but you can never bleed off more that the initial spring pressure.
