  • This week I'm back Wild Camping in South Wales, namely in the Black mountains located in the Brecon Beacons.
This was a 2 night Wild Camping trip on 2 different peaks within the Black Mountains.
I was out with Warren from ‪@Linleys‬ and it was glorious to be back in the Brecons, the weather was very cold but very beautiful. we were lucky enough to get a nice sunrise and an awesome sunset as we pitched on 2 different ledges, one facing East and one facing West.
We start the trip off with a quick pint in the Skirrid Mountain Inn which is Wales oldest pub. Then we set off on a night hike heading up Hey Bluff in the dark to reach the trig point.
We saw the lights of Brecon town with the moon rising over it and some paraglider's launching off the peak of Hey Bluff. then we made our way up to the summit of Lord Herefords Knob and on towards Waun Fach with our pitch being on the trig point overlooking Capel-y-ffin.

Not sure hanging under a kite in a sleeping bag is my idea of a day out.
Beautiful scenery, I really should go someday. I was conceived in a tent up there and that's always put me off somewhat

Me either, it looks like an accident waiting to happen.
It’s a stunning place, you should visit sometime. The popular areas are busy but there are loads of ‘off the beaten track’ places that are just as lovely. Our second night spot we saw nobody from about 4pm until we were back near the car the next morning.

Super trip by the look of it, we are interviewing Warren this week on Wessex Ways podcast. "Make my mark on the landscape" is the one thing that makes me apprehensive about going wild camping, but a fear I need to conquer.

Great to witness you two guys at it again Dan n Warren. These adventures have a quality so different to most. Stunning night visions with the horses and stars stunning scenery and then those sunrise sunsets were the finishing touches. You need altitude fitness not altitude sickness mate. Bushyboy Oz.

I spent 1 week in Wales (Brecon Beacons) and surrounding areas, and then 1 week in Scotland. I loved it, wild camping, and discovering new places to walk and enjoy it. I did not have much time to travel in Wales as one of my car windows got broken (my own fautt) but I had a friend who took my to a nearby huge lake, and so we spent most of the day there and then I have seen few places, but next time I would love to go back to Scotland and do some wild camping there also.

🤣🫣, “….now that I’ve looked at his Lordship’s nob, it’s time for lunch…” & filming in the pub toilets & Warren’s trousers coming down as he’s walking backwards…….can’t wait to see what Lee commented🤣😂😋‼️. Deeeeply jealous though, I always crack up laughing when Aussies talk about their historic pubs🇬🇧🍻🍺🍻🥃🍺, I do miss nice country pubs. Do me a favour, and have a pint in that nice pub at Tilford green (next to the village cricket field) for me 🍺. 🎥🏕👏👏👏‼️

My kids used to go to school near that pub. I’ve messed about in the river by the bridge many times. I will stop in one day.
Carly and I have started to be regular visitors to the pub in our village, it’s a proper village local, the last few weeks it’s had the log burner going.. very nice 👌

Dan👍👍 Looked like you and Warren had a terrific time on those barren hills, windy and chilly but you guys had it covered. Good gear and food to keep you warm, great scenery and company to keep you entertained...perfect. If there was a con, it had to be the wind, non stop it seems. The parasailing guys loved it for sure. Tremendous views from the drone, good work there. As always a super video and adventure, thanks for the trip. See ya next time. Enjoy!

Very envious, that looked great! I think Rhos Dirion, as shown on the map at 32:03, is the name of the summit you were on there (wikipedia lists the height as 713m, which ties up with the trig point). Strange that the name isn't written a bit closer to the summit, but I suppose given all that space there the cartographer thought they might as well spread it all about a bit?
