    FYI I have the build of a pre pubescent boy weighing 75-80kg dry, so close to the target rate of the DR rear spring. Unloaded.
    Cheers for watching, I look forward to reading and replying to your comments below

      The carb and exhaust were my biggest improvements I did the trim job extra hole and it made it way more responsive I'm 6'2 365 lol and it's still banging up hills mountains what ever I throw at it! Mine is a 98 with 29k kms on it was owned by a older guy who wrecked in 05 and let it sit for years I've had it 3 years now and ride it every couple of days beating it in sand on atv tracks ( two ruts.) Used to be all dirt bike tracks but now it's 4 wheel !

    Good vid mate. Helpfull breaking down the mods. People really should just ride their bikes. Spending money doesn't make you a better rider. Practicing and having fun does. Which i really should do more of.😆

    Great video Skids! Spot on about getting the maximum performance from minimal mods. The idle air/fuel mixture screw does make a huge difference in fine tuning the carby. If I were to change up the order that I have done with mods to my DR, I would start with the suspension and protective items such as bash plate, case guards and bark busters. Great video Mate!
    Cheers!

      You're ✅ right , those mods alone would pretty much do the trick in a lot of cases I believe

    SKIDS - Totally agree with all comments. I've done some mods with more to go - Simply put, IMO, If you get a DR - "Ride the Shit out of it" - and modify it to your style & conditions. If you just commute to work - short trip, say 10 - 20 miles (US) & take easy trails - Not "over the top" riding - you may not need to a damn thing. That said (going by memory) Note the following if you so desire.
    1) BASH PLATE - a must if you are going off road
    2) CARB / AIRBOX MOD - especially when coupled with an exhaust mod - "DE-RESTRCITING" THE DR MAKES IT QUITE HAPPY...
    3) EXHAUST MOD - let it breathe !!!!
    4) UPGRADED HEADLIGHT & AUX LIGHTS - Just nice / improved visibility especially when on the road
    5) SEAT CONCEPTS SEAT - I feel it's needed if you are going beyond (say) 70 miles - That's about when my butt goes numb...
    6) BETTER TIRES - if you're needing better traction off-road. You may not need them on little "faggity" trails depending on style...
    7) SUSPENSION UPGRADE (coming soon) - again, depending on your riding style
    This, I feel, is at its most basic level - (again) depending on your style. You can go ape shit with the DR - but do you need to?
    The MIGHTY SUZUKI DR 650 is the best bike I have ever owned. Been riding for about 55 years.... LOVE IT.....
    Cheers !

      Cheers for the breakdown OBI, I agree on some points but the headlight thing I really don't understand as a necessity. I ride in the dark everyday and Can't See the problem 😀 It may be a Nice to Have though, like you say.
      As far as the cut airbox/carby phenomenon goes, I will be making a video tearing the shreds off that idea

      @@SKIDSnSTUFF yo, I think the LED is a good idea and important, not so much for you to see at night ( very rarely I ride at night ), but to be seen by normies day or night. Personally, I got it to be seen, not so much to see.

    Enjoyed your video. I bought a new one last year and was so lean it was almost unridable. Opened up the mixture screw and it's better but still surging at cruising speed. So have the procycle jet kit on its way.

    Love my DR too. My old fuel guzzling 525EXC fuel stays parked at the back of the shed.
    Footpeg control I get ya. I just don't get how blokes think the pegs need to be raked back as well as down... Lower I get, for more room, but if you ride standing on the balls of your feet, down is ideal, even with size 13 Tech 10's. I wasted money on them JNS brackets and Pivot Pegs. I agree it feels like I'm not forward enough in normal attack crouch, and feels off, even carrying my 54yr old keg above my belt.
    Also, that KYB rear shock was designed by someone who thinks every rider on a DR will be 60kg. Rebound dampening is sadly missing when you start squashing the spring. Revalved DRZ Showa rear shock was another great mod.
    The front brake works so much better with a braided line.
    The clutch needs heavy duty springs, slips under big handfulls with my butt on board or loaded up in deep sand too.
    The BST carb works pretty good, but likes a 45 pilot better for poke, I reckon. I'm in the middle of fitting a 39mm FCR MX to mine now, though for less to deal with, and I know them better from years of racing.
    Hated the donkey dick front mudguard, cutting mine 2" shorter with more of a point was a great mod for transport sections and reduces wandering in wind.
    Rim Locks are a good mod too. Still not hard to balance, with a few sinkers crimped on the spokes (Just remember to replace them before heading out in your boat fishing - Don't ask me why this memory haunts me).
    The rims are weak, expecially watch the front seam, it cracks. Re-laced to an Excel ages ago, no problems since.
    Cut back the chain guard end a bit helps get the wheel on and off easier.
    Gotta bridge out that stand relay - engine cut out too, thats dangerous.
    Gotta watch the wire chafing around the steering head and wrap it in hose I reckon too.
    Great Bike.

      You certainly know your stuff when it comes to the technical side of things Dieter.
      I intend to get heavier clutch springs for the new plates, I actually checked part numbers after picking up this new DR, because the new clutch pull was so light and smooth, thought they may have changed the springs on us. Then the clutch went to hell quicker/easier than I though it would on that Northcliffe ride.
      I'm off the 45 pilot though, the AF screw seemed to clean it up enough, without the loss in fuel range.
      The 525EXC was my first bike, still my favourite bike I've ridden from KTM and only second in fun factor behind the mighty Warpig!
      Oh yeh I just fuck that floppy chain guard off completely

  • @badoldbiker368
    @badoldbiker368 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Another great video Skids. For me it comes down to the type of riding I do, which is very tame compared to what you put the Warpig through. I have thought about doing some suspension mods to my DR but not sure what may or may not have been done previously by the first owner as a few mods were already done when I bought the bike. So far I haven't had any issues with suspension but I ride carrying very little gear (so far) and mostly gravel dual track and gravel roads which are quite tame. So will wait a little longer to see if I can justify to put money into the suspension.

    • @SKIDSnSTUFF
      @SKIDSnSTUFF  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like a solid plan. I was trying to convey with this video that a lot of the time the DR doesn't need a ton of wiz bang mods

    I've done all he dream list mods, except power. I have stock carb, air box, and exhaust...it runs perfectly. I'm so scared to do the power mods because it runs so well. Adding more power and going higher on the gearing makes sense to me. More power will pull the higher gearing when lugging single track and make highway cruising easier. Am I wrong with that concept? Skids, always love your content.

    • @SKIDSnSTUFF
      @SKIDSnSTUFF  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From my experience I'd recommend against the 'power mods', except changing to basically any aftermarket muffler. That seems enough to clean up the splutter. I definitely would not recommend higher gearing regardless of mods if riding single track, even on the road 1st gears seems too quick at intersections as standard. If ya check my other vids I explain how 15/44 cruises at hwy speeds even for over taking

    I did spend on the DR. Being 100kg, I thought the suspension was a must, the seat, also a must. Engine and radiator protection, the LED ( to present to other road users for my safety), handlebar, pannier rack, it’s the tanami edition, so it already had the acerbis 20 litre, bashplate, barkbusters, I rejetted and drilled out the airbox, delkavic full exhaust. Boss Hog is happy and willing to go anywhere my under-skilled ass wants to go. 😏
