One of the smartest words i have heard in all the motorcyclevideos i watched: "If you feel like you are going fast, you are not looking far enough ahead." Keep it up!
Mate I’m 60 and just used this vid to get home when a 1 hr ride off road turned into 3 hr ride. Dropped the bike in a huge puddle and jumped off knee deep in another. What got me home was this vid and riding much more relaxed between puddles ( they are ponds anywhere but here) 😊 thank you 🙏
Sean Oneil from Pats Patch taught me and my mate so much in a weekend down Jindabyne, yeah weight off your arms and use your legs and feet for holding on , very very good tips
Fantastic advice and great video. At nearly 55 I did my first off-road trail riding training day last weekend. The following day I put those new skills into practice and really felt more confident on the bike. So the timing of your video is perfect Ben👏🏼👏🏼 Not only are you a very talented rider you are also able to communicate those skills to others in simple terms. If I could give this video 100 thumbs up then I would. I’m sure I’ll be watching this over and over again. Respect and PEACE
Excellent video. Well done! Being a 500cc road racing state champion with some long standing lap records from back in the early eighties, I can say those three tips apply 100% to the tarmac track as well. Focus on going smooth and the speed will automatically come no need to force it. Very well presented, I really enjoyed watching 👍
Thanks alot Stephen, good to hear the tips transfer over I did mention the road in the rough cut but finally decided to keep it more focused for simplicity
Mate, epic video.. I’ve been riding dirty’s for 30 years have 6 in the garage (not one is a cafe bike) and I just got great value out of your tips.. I’m getting on my 300 now and and going to think about the stuff you’ve said to renew my skills.. we are always leaning huh… epic work thank you…
Great refresher for an old guy who's been riding over 50 years. I'll have to remind myself to look further ahead than I think I do. On the road, I'm looking as far as I can see in front of me - but need to remind myself to do the same off road. Thanks "SKID'S"
Yes yes guru of the bush I remember when this revelation sparked in my peanut gallery and the smiles it gave me and how pissed alot of people where when I was ripping past there houses on dirt roads at 70 with the front in the air 😂
Cheers. The thing is plenty of expert riders... actually almost every rider i know, visibly does not understand the importance of using their feet correctly.
Great stuff, so much info, I'm OK with the smooth, ok with the looking up (getting better anyway) but my standing needs work, a good part of that video was how you explained no weight on the bars... Will try harder. Thanks again.
Good on you mate, great video. You have a great way of putting difficult concepts into simple terms. There are so many new adventure riders like myself that are still learning and finding a way to connect with the bike (to listen to it as you say) so these help a lot. Keep going I look for more videos.
Cheers for the support Sasha, i love hearing that you are finding the videos helpful. We plan on putting out more tips and how-to vids in between adventure videos and reviews. Thanks again!
I’m really conservative with how I ride, but I like knowing there is a safer way to stretch my ability. Thanks for making these videos with the DR, specifically!
Such a great clip mate and soo true. Let the bike dance under the balls of your feet. I admit I thought I was pretty handy on MX, Enduro, Desert situations, but always rode in the arches of my feet (and flogging the soles of my boots pretty hard). This is something that I was never taught growing up, it's just In recent time's that I have watched and listened to clips and podcasts that I've learned the techniques you explained. It's super hard to break a bad habit, but like you mentioned, slow it down a touch and relearn, then the speed will come. Smooth is fast🤘. Awesome work dude👊
100% right mate: 1. Look ahead - coz you can’t react that fast to what is right in front of you so better to plan ahead. 2. Be smooth - coz on and off the throttle violently throws you off balance. 3. Use your feet - coz if your weight is on your arms you are usually off balance. 👍🏻😁
Hey Skids, great tips mate, I am going to be trying harder to keep up on my feet more, just the old knees and ankles are a bit buggered and I usually only get my arse off the seat in the really rough stuff. I get what you mean about listening to the feedback from your feet, it really does help with stability. Bit of rain coming through the scarp this weekend by the look of it, should be nice out in the bush.
They are Forma Terra Evo. Pretty nice boot, comfy, with a proper stitched sole. Fair protection for an all day adventure boot but not quite as sturdy as Sidi Adventure.
I also find that I cannot have a too light/lose grip on my bars in all terrain. Especially up hill rocky terrain still demands a firmer grip. What must I practice to reach the 'holding a raw egg' despite terrain type?
Great tutorial and editing! Off topic question. Which tank bag are you using and do you have a vent tube on the cap or a locking cap to avoid the tube? I have the Acerbis tank on my Pig, but most bags don't fit good or seem to get into your crotch.
Nelson Rigg 2015 I believe it's called. With locking cap. I run it backwards so all my shit doesn't fall out when opening, love this bag, this is my second and have a third in storage.
Formas updated Adventure boot the Forma Terra Evo. While they are comfy and stiffer than Formas crappy OG adv boots, they are still not quite there IMO. Would buy Sidi ADV if I had my time again. ENOUGH protection yet still comfy for all day (back to back) cruising.
Balls of feet. I remember talking to my wife through the Sena while going through a forest. I told her to stand on her balls. I was serious cause I know what I meant. She then had to stop her bike cause she was laughing so hard. That is an important tip that i to don’t practice enough as I tend to rife with my toes just in back of the brake pedal so I don’t have to move it forward as much. Lazy. I tend to ride lazily. I should do better.
Hahaha that's so good. The thing is, ya actually get to ride lazier if you use your feet properly cos it translates into not having to fight the bike. Ya do have to dance a little but the rest is then just squeezing Levers. I'm the laziest rider out, that's why I've developed this technique.
One of the smartest words i have heard in all the motorcyclevideos i watched: "If you feel like you are going fast, you are not looking far enough ahead."
Keep it up!

Nice vid, thanks. Hey is that a procycle seat?
That's right I quite like it, big and flat for long road trips but the material itself doesn't provide much in the way of grip
good video :) Love what you doing !
Thanks for the visit

Hey mate i like your boots what brand are they? Nice video tried out your tips today
They are Forma Terra Evo. Pretty nice boot, comfy, with a proper stitched sole. Fair protection for an all day adventure boot but not quite as sturdy as Sidi Adventure.

I find I cannot grip my tank when need be. My knees slide around badly. Should I add tank knee pads or do I just fail in my technique?
Hey! Just about ready to start my own channel here in eastern Canada. What do you use for video editing hardware/software?
Currently using Davinci Resolve 16 because my computer won't run 17

Haha with all the mining its sometimes the only way left to join sections up
