The Gen V copy-paste Pokemon were intentional. Game Freak was trying to revamp the series and give new players the same experience that Gen I players had. You start off and the only Pokemon available are those from that generation. And a lot were based off of the original 151 to hopefully give you the same feelings that you did with Gen I Pokemon.
I think that misses the point of what made the original 151 so memorable. Copy-pasting with no idea of why it works can really only lead to disaster. It doesn't capture the spirit of what made them unique. I'm going to use fossil pokemon as an example. In Gen-1 you had a choice between the Dome & Helix fossils for Kabuto or Omnanyte, which lead to one-of-a-kind Pokemon by the mid-late game. No other Pokemon could be obtained through an item like fossils. In gen-3 they gave you another choice between two fossils, though it was a repeat it was fine because Cradilly & Armaldo were unique types, you could obtain them mid-game as apposed to the Gen-1 and they didn't have an Fossil Pokemon in Gen-2. So far, so good. Then they did the same thing in Gen-4.... Okay. Then again in Gen-5 and again in Gen-6. It's a choice between two Fossils that gives you a Rock-Something Type that can evolve into a first stage evolution. One is focused on offence, the other defence. You can obtain them mid-game and they are one-of-a-kind. It's boring, when its been done so many times before. I'm glad that Gen-8 mixed up the Fossil mechanic but I digress. The same principle of copy-pasting is the problem with new Pokemon games. They just repeat the same thing over and over, that there is nothing to get excited about. That is why Gen-5 (IMO) kind of sucked in terms of Pokemon because there were very few which weren't just retreading the same ground. I understand that every Gen has to have a Ratata/Pidgy/Pikachu/etc clone but that is no excuse to having something so lazy.
@@NikkoRic0 It would've kept the original charm the earlier generations had, they may have kept some of their older audience. Unfortunately, we can only imagine what that would look like.
I'm OK with the 3D but not unfinished laziness what sword and shield clearly is. why can't we have both 2D and 3D games? we had that in the 90s and 2000s 3D is not a excuse as XD gale of darkness is one of my favourite 3D pokemon games and it shows actual effort better pokemon animations graphics and better scenery as well lol.
Imagine the amount of content a 2d pokemon game would have on the switch vs 3d. With 3d comes higher expectations, pokemon stadium 1/2 was good but paled in comparison to the time I spent on red. Pokemon go fucked us true trainers.
Most of my early memories playing Pokémon were made on Alpha Sapphire and Heart Gold, so I feel I had it good when it comes to Pokémon games back then.
@@TheConuresrule I'm a teen and I love the new Pokémon games. I have a GBC and GBA with Pokémon yellow and sapphire and they are amazing if not better than the new ones.
Same. I started with red but didn't finish Red. And I missed out on Gold/Silver/Crystal. But Gen 1 and 2 were still solid, and with worthwhile companion titles like Stadium, Stadium 2 and spinoffs like Snap and Hey You Pikachu. But I feel like Gen 3 was the true peak of the series' output. In addition to Sapphire being my favorite game in the entire series and bringing about the first remake of the series (LeafGreen being my first time completing the original Kanto journey), Pokemon Colosseum and XD were the most ambitious spinoffs in the entire series thus far being full RPGs and companion titles to R/S (to R/S/E/FR/LG in XD's case) and still having further spinoffs with Pokemon Channel and the first Mystery Dungeon. Generation 4 wasn't 100% as bountiful as Gen 3 but was still super solid. Diamond was still very good and having Battle Revolution as a companion title meant a lot when my interest in multiplayer Pokemon battles was at its peak, and HG/SS were my first Johto experience (which I still feel is the most perfect entry in the entire series to date). There was also Pokemon Ranger, Trozei, and multiple Mystery Dungeon games. Gen 5 was considerably light on content compared to Gens 1 - 4, but really made up for it with Black/White being the absolute most refreshing title I've ever experienced in the series (going on to become my 2nd-favorite mainline title in the franchise), and Black2/White2 is the first time that the "3rd game" was a must-buy as an outright sequel with a completely different story. Gen 5 also had a spinoff with Conquest. To this day, I'm still amazed that Pokemon was still able to deliver experiences I wholeheartedly enjoyed even though I had already graduated from high school before B2/W2's release. X/Y was a massive disappointment, and Alpha Sapphire being a remake of my favoirte game in the entire series (but being on X/Ys woefully inept engine and having pre-rendered music) wound up being the entry I chose as the end of my journey with the franchise. My interest was dying really fast, and seeing how Sun/Moon (and the debacle that is Sword/Shield) turned out only reinforced that I made the right choice by letting the series go while my relationship with the series was still on relatively good terms. I'm sad that I'll likely never play another Pokemon game again, but I'm glad that Pokemon still brought me joy well into my college years, and I'm also glad that by letting go, I haven't grown to hate Pokemon - I wish I could say the same for Sonic, but I kept playing after Generations when that's where I should have stopped, as later entries like Lost World and Boom really drained my interest in Sonic, and Forces basically turned me into a Sonic hater.
The Pokémon Company in this day and age is only focused on creating incomplete products on a yearly basis while selling the solution later down the road. And the sad part is. The fanbase is part of the problem (with the exception of fans who play the games and admit the flaws). By pre ordering and buying stuff at launch without thinking twice about it you give Gamefreak and TPC the excuse that they need to release mediocre mediocrity instead of a complete final product.
Completely agree. That is why I stopped after Sun & Moon when I realized that Pokemon was ONLY a money printer for Game Freak. I don't have a problem with making money but I care about my experiences and Pokemon fails at that now.
You should really play bw2 along with HGSS it’s easily one of the best games in the series and you can tell a lot of love and care were put into the game.
Personally, I think HGSS is the best in terms of user interface as it makes great use of large touch buttons for control of the menus, no need to use the DPad or the finicky stylus. Just use your hands, like on an iPhone. Plus, the improved graphics in Johto and Kanto are fantastic. As for B&W2, well the story is insanely long and even on standard mode it is bloody difficult, it's a real challenge to play through and requires all your skills. You kids today with Sword/Shield have it way to easy.
@@maximilianwimmer627 yeah I’m kinda sad I never got to experience those days of Pokémon I’ve always loved the style of the older games and I wish I had gotten a chance to play them when they were new I hate the mostly linear pathways in the newer games and let’s go eevee and gave me the tiniest bit of what they used to be
@@maximilianwimmer627 bw2 is not remotely difficult, at this point that’s overhyping it, and I say this as someone who LOVES gen 5. The only difficult fights are iris, some e4 members which depends on your team (I always have the most trouble with Marshal bc he has coverage for everything), and colress to a degree, especially his postgame fight.
@@Equalizer4 Have you tried it in challenge mode? Gym leaders and the World tournament against real life champions' teams in challenge mode was the most difficult and fun experience i had with a pokemon game by far. They need to reincorpore difficulty modes into modern games ffs.
I would respectfully disagree. I think Gen 7 was the most forgettable. Which is unfortunate because Sun and Moon had a story that was on par with B/W and some genuinely amazing pokemon.
As far as I see it, the issue was never whether it was too similar or too different, nor the greater focus on story when they tried and that is the key word, they stopped trying. From gen 6 they stopped caring about the pokemon world, they stopped trying to improve and expand the pokemon world as a living, breathing, wonderous world, and they gave no regard to lore or the story and how it affects the pokemon world at large. To them legendarys are nothing but candy to give out at a dollar store. They began chasing gimmicks and short sighted cash grabs, then they had the audacity to try to deceive their customers and disrespect the very notion of pokemon itself. Sure there is story but there is no care put into them. Gen 8's story makes no bloody sense, regardless of the fact that you are actively kept out of it, with characters that one doesn't care about because they are incredibly one or two note, being annoying, arrogant, bland, or having no characterization whatsoever. It is the animated tie-ins that have done more for the characters than the games themselves. Gen 7 managed to cannibalize their own story with the forced inclusion of Necrozma and the ultra recon squad (who surmounted to nothing) and made a gaint mess. Not like the story didn't already have some major issues. It's good when it focuses on Lillie and the core conflict, but everything around it has more holes in it than swiss cheese, and those holes have major repercussions for the world of pokemon as a whole. Gen 6's story is just broken to the point of barely being there. The friend group weren't really characters or those that anyone would remember because they were one note and surmounted to nothing. They were just there, existing. The actual interesting parts of the story is so incredibly broken that people like me had to literally stitch it back together to garner any information from it. Which leads to a host of issues. I do partly feel sorry for them, at least at first as I am sure that their hearts were broken with how gen 5 was rejected so hard due to the very loud ruckus made by a few entitled folks that couldn't wait until the post game, but that is no longer an acceptable excuse or even a factor, especially with how more and more information keeps coming forth that shows how inadequate and unwilling to improve they are. Their hearts may have been crushed, but at this point it is their own undoing.
Honestly Game Freak should give their workers more time to work on the games, and cut down on the annual releases. Not only so the games can be more polished and enjoyable but so the crew can have a healthy lifestyle. IMO Pokémon peaked with Sun and Moon (I am interested in playing Pokémon Arceus). I also think that Pokémon from different gens deserve some love from the company as everyone is burnt out by constant gen 1 and each gen has Pokémon that have became beloved by fans I’m not as big of a fan of the series as I was when I was a kid, and I stoped watching the show years ago, but I still hold a lot of respect for the franchise and I want it to do better
When it comes generation 5. Personally it's my favorite. I played both black 1 and 2 multiple times. I'll say this now it wasn't my first pokemon game. Pokemon rudy holds that title. But over all I felt more attached to the characters. And it felt more alive. Yes I agree that a decent amount of the pokemon was questionable. But over all there are a lot of strong and nice looking pokemon from this region. While the sprite animations also brought the Pokemon to life. the fact that I got to see the characters that I felt attacked to from the first game grow more mature and responsible in black 2. It was a really nice feeling. But over all for me it was the best pokemon game. I can't say anything about generations 4,6,7,8 because I've personally never played them. But that's just my opinion.
Blue was an improved version in Japan, Green was Japan exclusive and Yellow offered changes in Pokémon encounters in routes, Jessie and James’ Pokemon can’t be obtained in game (Koffing, Meowth and Ekans lines), as well as team changes for certain gym leaders to suit their anime counterparts. Yellow is also based off of the anime, allowing to you obtain all three starters with the same method as Ash in the anime. Charizard can now learn fly and there’s a surfing mini game. You can also catch the opposite box legendary in the post game. Why did you bother mentioning Yellow but not Crystal, Emerald (you mentioned three new games but no actual discussion) or platinum?
Playing sun version then having to play ultra sun a year later was a slap to the face and a chore to do. I never finished ultra sun and will never experience 0/
Wont fight you, they’re good, just pretty forgettable tbh. And when i was a kid i though a pkmn game in 3d would be as amazing as XD gale of darkness, but when i actually got x and y i though it felt like the sugar free version of that....
Gen 5 is too easy? I know they’re not extremely difficult, but I wouldn’t call it easy. Frustrating is more like it as leveling up new pokémon takes forever and using your current set would not be enough to take on the next gym, whether it’s because of a move that recks the team or the team typing is too similar to each other. In fact leveling up in gen 5 is just exhausting, and the only way to grind effectively is to find audino everywhere. If you’re to say that gen 5 changes too much too abruptly, I would definitely agree, but too easy is definitely a hindsight look with a very skewed perception when looking at the rest of the series.
Team skull are more of a group of people trying to find their place (and distract from who the real villain is, which should be pretty obvious because the camera zooms to when they make their grin, as like it's wasnt easy to see already)
In the og pokemon sun there is sum more darker roots with the aether foundation that is removed from ultra sun especially with lillys mum Nd i feel its a bit more grown up with bad parenting being a focus lilly standing up to her mum was a great scene! Tho ultra necrozma was a great boss fight and a good addition. Pokemon is really stagnating they shud mix up the battle system and consider sum other battle playstyles a variation in story wud be great too the pokemon world us vast why must we always be a beginner leaving for a gym challenge? Colosseum was a great change but i doubt we will get tht agen I do disagree with ur final point tho, these games do feel like pokemon because so little has changed in over 20 years how u progress what your goal is and how you start the game are all the same and the battle system despite a gimmick added here and removed there is also still the same I found myself feeling disappointed around alpha sapphire when i realised all the models and animations were now staying the same aswell it woke me up to this rut the pokemon franchise is stuck in
I reject the notion that Ultra Sun and Moon to be the same as Black and White 2. That is just so wrong. USUM is like crystal but with 2 versions while Black 2 and white 2 were sequels with new sstorylines and new areas to explore
People ask all time for an official game with no old Pokémon being reused yet they simultaneously liked to trample onto Gen5 a ka BW(1) because of that very reason. :eyesroll: Also, decline only in sellnumbers. Anybody looking at the content itself plus graphical evolution from DP up to BW2 will say the opposite. Plus, the Dream World a ka a browser game was free - don't dare to ask for such service nowadays.
@@MelodyCrystel IKR LMAOOO,gamefreak tried their best when making gen 5,people hated it,gamefreak barely tried when making gen 8 and people also hated it smh
Okay, I'm so disappointed I didn't get Ultra Sun over basic Sun cause that title theme sounds so much more grandiose than the one in normal Sun... WHAT THE HELL GAMEFREAK?!
what about pokemon colosseum and pokemon xd. you seem to have forgotten that 1. it's important. because gamefreak's grudge against genius sonority which has everything to do with why the games are getting worse.
I love all pokemon games, including the newer ones, but even i can agree to an extent that some of the things that made old pokemon good has definitely declined a little in the newer ones. Going from gens 1 to 4 the pokemon games focused on the adventure, gen 3 and 4 focused a little bit on story but mostly on adventure. Going from gen 5 onwards the games focused more on story, most of the stories so far have just best mediocre or okay. The only good stories in pokemon right now are the original bw and the original sm. Not b2w2 or usum but those stories were still alright. Only 3 of the pokemon generations have had good and fun competitive metas with those being gen 4, gen 6 (before pokemon bank and oras became a thing), and gen 8. Gen 4 is best played with single (traditional) battles, gen 6 is good with both singles and doubles, and gen 8 is better with doubles (otherwise if you played in singles the dynamax mechanic would be overpowered but in doubles its more balanced). Competitive pokemon was just a joke in gen 1 and 7 and there was little to no reason to even try to play those games competitively. In terms of pokemon designs they have been pretty good but gen 5 and gen 8 have very little to offer compared to the other gens. Gen 1 had original designs (even if some felt lazy), gen 2 mainly had baby forms of gen 1 pokemon and a couple new evolutions of gen 1 mons (gen 2 barely had any original pokemon), gen 3 has mostly original designs and many people argue gen 3 had the best designed pokemon, gen 4 mainly just had a bunch of old pokemon getting brand new designs and a bunch of legendaries/mythicals (not a lot of new pokemon), gen 5 had very few good new designed pokemon and the majority of the gen 5 mons are just cheap versions of gen 1 pokemon, gen 6 had very few new pokemon but many of the designs were original and megas gave new designs to old mons as well, he 7 had many original pokemon and regional forms but it had way to many legendary pokemon (you got the main box legends, necrozma, cosmog/cosmoem, type null/silvally, the ultra beasts, the guardian deitys, magearna, marshadow, zeraora, brand new forms for zygarde, and some argue that meltan/melmetal are gen 7 mythicals). Gen 8 has many original pokemon but many people say that most of the new designs dont really look to good but they arent as bad as gen 5 at least. Exp share I personally never really freak out over but i get why peopl dislike the new exp share. Many people say gen 1 is the most overrated generation but i would argue that gen 4 is no overrated than gen 1 but I digress. Gen 8 is alright and I definitely recommend playing it but i can see why people dislike them such as the graphics, animations, new pokemon designs, dynamax/gmax replacing megas, dlc being lacking, and of course the dreaded national dex cut. I never really cared for having every pokemon be available in one game by i can see why people were outraged by the desicion. All in all pokemon has dipped little in quality since gen 5 and currently the only things saving gen 8 from completely dying currently are the hope that dlc 2 wont be bad, the current gen 8 competitive vgc meta game, the pokemon journeys anime, and the rule 34 of the new gen 8 character like sonia, hatterene, bea, nessa, gloria, leon, marnie, allister, and raihan (just to name a few). I dont think gen 8 will be the death of pokemon because gamefreak made bank with sword and shield and they'll make more money with the dlc. Altho if they continue with what they are doing for another decade or 2 then yeah, people will get bored with the series and move on. Currently tho, gf is fine but i think they should probably focus a little more on the videogames and not put as much time into the merch or anime (its unlikely they do that tho because merchandise makes way more money than any of the games combined). Anyways sorry for the long comment, just wanted to say what I thought about current modern pokemon. Anyways have a good day/night :)
While I liked gen3 a lot, a think it was at gen2 that pkmn truly felt like pkmn refined, without clutter, just the core mechanics and style refined to its logical conclusion.
Pokemon games still sell like hotcakes. Can someone explain why, if it has fallen? The way I see it, Pokemon still finds ways to keep themselves relevant. There have been countless clones over the years. Has any company been able to monetise such a simple idea as good as Pokemon?
This is true, and I imagine it always will sell decently to well. But good sales don’t necessarily equate to a happy fan base or bright future. For instance the last of us 2 sold well but people are out there breaking their copies. I digress I love this series but for the sake of brevity I’ll put it this way. The issues seem to be gamefreak lying, too much innovation, and disregarding fan input which while not always a good thing can prove to be detrimental. This series is a part of a lot of people’s lives as well as their kids and so it’ll always be alive in some capacity. But the quality has in my opinion and I even argue objectively dipped.
For all the same reasons why FIFA still sells, despite literally being the same game over and over again, but with adjusted Rosters(Sound familiar?). But realistically, it just boils down to the fanbase. FIFA doesn't have Fans, it has consumers, seeing the next product and consuming without a thought, playing without a thought. Pokemon is basically at that point, very few Fans, mostly just consumers. It's just a matter of time before GameFreak/Nintendo realise that they can drop the pretence and just go full EA.
Diamond and Pearl were cheeks Platinum, Heart Gold and Soul Silver are the reason Gen 4 was so popular.(I personally also really enjoyed mining for fossils and making a cool base in Platinum.) Gen 5 had a great story, the pokemon were meh but the seasons were really cool and made the game feel more immersive. Gen 6 was the last game I actually enjoyed because of the character customization, and pokemon. The story was ok but I am not the biggest fan of megas I prefer transformation via item/held item like Giratina, Shaymin, Rotom and Deoxys. Gen 7-8 was cheeks I did not enjoy it at all, didn't like most of the pokemon and getting my hand held through the entire game.
I'm gonna get so much flack for this but Sun and Moon are my favourite Pokemon games. They had their issues for sure, but the plot & characters were much better and it really felt more like an actual adventure style game imo. The problem is Ultra Sun & Moon completely ruined that by changing next to nothing, making an already pretty long game feel even more tedious and ruin subsequent S&M playthroughs for lots of people and watered down the original story so bad making it even more of a drag. As that was the last thing most people experienced of Gen 7 before moving on I think it really left a sour taste in their mouths It's such a shame cause I really think Sun and Moon have so much to offer people who want Pokemon to take that next step, but most people will probably never see it cause of the terrible reboots. I really can't tell you how much I hate US&M
I wouldn't say flare was that similiar to team magma. x was actually my first pokemon game but omega ruby was my second so I could see just how similiar the two teams were. sure "flare" and "magma" could both relate to fire but other then that? yeah not much. also eh...in gen 7 it was a improvement over gen 6 really also usum if you look at the change log compared to other enhanced versions it may actually have the most amount of changes I feel like in gen 7 the exp share could have been handled better but both sun and moon and especially the ultra games were more difficulty then gen 6 and the exp share was actually improved so it would be more like gen 5's. saying which moves are super effective are more just useful then really simply "making things easier". as the game could still be challenging with the types being displayed. a lot of the time it didn't do anything since at this point I should know how most of the types work against each other. but the option of turning move indicators off could have been good. fixing the exp share could have been great to I still found the games had some tough fights though even as early as the trainer school. actually there are three villians in USUM Team Skull, Lusamine, and Necrozma who is the main villian. the kahuna fights are more like actual gym leader fights not so much elite 4 fights as in USUM only one kahuna is a elite four member. actually in sun and moon original Hala was a elite four too. actually gen 6 has the smallest number of new pokemon being 72 compared to (if you include usum) gen 7's 86
Gautaman S haha good one! Not quite tho. Although gen 1 is my favorite, I enjoy gen 2 and 3 as well and don’t mind gen 4 as it brought the physical special split and I enjoy some of the Pokémon from gen 4. Gen 5 forward just aren’t appealing, but I have played them all.
I don't entirely disagree with what you're saying but the fact that you haven't played every mainline Pokemon game illegitimizes your argument I do agree that later generations of Pokemon are can prove to be lackluster but you have an experience them for yourself and therefore you're just going off of other people's opinion forming a bias
I think nearly all pokemon games are of the same quality with the exception of pokemon hgss being far better than the other games and red/blue/yellow being by far the worst games i didn't grow up with the older games and i think most of the people complaining about new pokemon games are blinded by nostalgia maybe i don't understand because i am only 13 and didn't grow up with the old pokemon games but i have played every mainline pokemon game
As a pokemon fan i still love gen 1 and 2 over all other pokemon games. Anything after that and i feel like im playing the same game just new skins. I personally dont include anything after gen 3 in my head cannon. But oh well. I mean i loved the idea that there could be more kinds of pokemon but alot of the pokemon feel like a copy and paste or odd looking or just plain trash. Some are good ideas but badly designed
Played lots of Pokemon in my youth, though only up to Gen 3, as the latter held no appeal to me. Had Yellow, Red, and Crystal; and Firered and Emerald: managed to beat the Pokemon Tower of Pokemon Pokemon Colosseum with my own Pokemon. I find the emphasis on the Legendaries were the cause of my disaffection with the series.
I feel Oras saved gen 6 from being entirely bad. But the gens following continue to get worse and worse. Gen 7 was unoptimized and pushed the 3ds in ways that aren’t good. The less said about Gen 8 the better, however it did give us legend arceus which is one of the best modern Pokemon games.
I was hoping something, cool and awesome for Pokémon 25th anniversary, what we got was 🤮, I started since gen 1. I hope at least Persona 25th Anniversary is better, Atlus only recently touch the event and next month, we will get the first news about it.

You mentioned gen 5 being the worst, I'd say gen 3 was. It was The foster child of pokemon. Definitely never fit well. Story made 0 sense, and is flawed. Gen 5 is so under rated. You can't play it like you do in other generations where you speed thru with the crutch of previous generation pokemon. The reason people hate it was because they couldn't playing using a pokemon they could in the near dozen other games you could catch them.
The 2D Pokémon games are great. The Pokémon games should have stayed as 2D Japanese Pokémon games. The anime graphics and Japanese names are fine enough. 2D anime graphics are able to allow plenty of content.
I like the concept of each region as well as their Pokémon, but the execution for games like Sword and Shield was bad in terms of Animation, and I would’ve preferred if they didn’t switch to 3D I don’t know it’s just not natural to me

Unpopular opinion the plots of Pokémon black and white 1 & 2 aren't really that innovative The first Game has some decent character development, i agree on that But the Mythos is rather weak Like reshiram and zekrom came into being when a dragon split into two, their remains became kyurem... And we barely know anything about The original dragon And the reveals aren't hard at all to see coming Black and white 2 is for the most part the plot of 1 but everyone points out from the begging that black team plasma only spew fallacies Like geez team plasma members are kicking a munna after You get one or two medals And they're openly comitting terrorism Like the odd thing would be that they're revealed to be the good guys That and gameplay wise it worsened some features. While TM are infinite now, You can't grow berries and You can't rematch trainers (which makes levelling up Pokémon a pain in the ass)
I don't understand how Gen 4 was likable. At all. I considered it one of the worst Pokemon games alongside Sword and Shield, X/Y, and ORAS. The music put me to sleep most of the time, and not a lot of the cities were eye popping. Just a silly little opinion.
@Totally Anime Exactly. My first game was Leaf Green, and I hated Kanto. Only a few Pokemon were good. Then S/R/E came up and wiped the floor with Flygon, the Regis, Walrein, Medicham, the gameplay, the bases, the story, need I say more? Then Sinnoh brought Turtwig, Chatot, the Underground, that's it. It's all boring from there.
@Totally Anime My reason is I loved the music. And some old pokemon got new Evolutions and pre-evolutions, the underground was fun if you had friends to play capture the flag with, the pokeball customizations were fun, and it felt like there were a lot of secrets to explore and discover. Back to the music, I feel like it had this calm mysterious vibe kinda like the Chrono Trigger Music (Although not on the same level), and that's why I enjoyed it so much. The gameplay definitely had a bunch of flaws though. Running was too slow and surfing somehow even slower, and it could take forever for a pokemons hp to go down(Although most of these problems were improved upon in Platinum). So overall I found them to be awesome games.
The Gen V copy-paste Pokemon were intentional. Game Freak was trying to revamp the series and give new players the same experience that Gen I players had. I remember the gigantic hate those games got back then.
But it didnt.
Gen 5 it's the peak of the franchise in quality, gen 6 onwards games are very meh and then gen 8 is by far the worst gen.
Ever since pokemon went fully 3d it’s gone downhill
I do agree with you. The pixelated style had a certain charm about it which has si nice been lost when they made the transition.
What they probably should have done was make the over-world 3D but keep the battles pixelated
I am glad I lived my early teens playing the golden age of Pokemon GBA-NDS era. Ty for the good memories Pokemon.
Yeah, imagine your early teens being sword/shield. God that'd be horrible.
Most of my early memories playing Pokémon were made on Alpha Sapphire and Heart Gold, so I feel I had it good when it comes to Pokémon games back then.
@Roger Loe While I do appreciate your love of the games, it's just not the same
@@TheConuresrule I'm a teen and I love the new Pokémon games.
Exactly this. Pin this comment.
@@maximilianwimmer627 but that’s not really my/their faults.
Let's be honest, Gen 3/5 hit hard, Gen 6 was the most forgettable and every gen after is *okay* .
And yes, Mega Evolution is awesome.
I would respectfully disagree. I think Gen 7 was the most forgettable. Which is unfortunate because Sun and Moon had a story that was on par with B/W and some genuinely amazing pokemon.
The PSS is the best thing Gen 6 has to offer, it’s so simple yet so effective.
I also think that Pokémon from different gens deserve some love from the company as everyone is burnt out by constant gen 1 and each gen has Pokémon that have became beloved by fans
I’m not as big of a fan of the series as I was when I was a kid, and I stoped watching the show years ago, but I still hold a lot of respect for the franchise and I want it to do better
He did mention crystal.
Playing sun version then having to play ultra sun a year later was a slap to the face and a chore to do. I never finished ultra sun and will never experience 0/
Pokemon X and Y are good games! Fight me!
They are decent. But not the best
@@TSPH1992 Yeah
Wont fight you, they’re good, just pretty forgettable tbh. And when i was a kid i though a pkmn game in 3d would be as amazing as XD gale of darkness, but when i actually got x and y i though it felt like the sugar free version of that....
With some difficulty mods they are fun. Without those i could beat all gyms and elite four while sleeping tbh.
You should definitely give BW2 a chance if you loved BW, it add more to Unova and flash out what was already in BW
Gen 8 did removed things like Megas and Z-moves, whiling also removing Battle Royals (which 7 removed triple and rotation battles)
Team skull are more of a group of people trying to find their place (and distract from who the real villain is, which should be pretty obvious because the camera zooms to when they make their grin, as like it's wasnt easy to see already)
And this is why I'd rather make a pokemon game using RPG Maker XP.
I think the backlash towards the game they put so much effort and love into (gen 5) changes everything for the future
That's my opinion
I still don't understand why people hate Gen 5, it is by far my favorite gen and I even battled competitively.
In the og pokemon sun there is sum more darker roots with the aether foundation that is removed from ultra sun especially with lillys mum
Nd i feel its a bit more grown up with bad parenting being a focus lilly standing up to her mum was a great scene! Tho ultra necrozma was a great boss fight and a good addition.
Pokemon is really stagnating they shud mix up the battle system and consider sum other battle playstyles a variation in story wud be great too the pokemon world us vast why must we always be a beginner leaving for a gym challenge?
Colosseum was a great change but i doubt we will get tht agen
I do disagree with ur final point tho, these games do feel like pokemon because so little has changed in over 20 years how u progress what your goal is and how you start the game are all the same and the battle system despite a gimmick added here and removed there is also still the same
I found myself feeling disappointed around alpha sapphire when i realised all the models and animations were now staying the same aswell it woke me up to this rut the pokemon franchise is stuck in
I reject the notion that Ultra Sun and Moon to be the same as Black and White 2. That is just so wrong. USUM is like crystal but with 2 versions while Black 2 and white 2 were sequels with new sstorylines and new areas to explore
I thought he was saying LGPE are like B2W2 because they're sequels with new features.
You’ve omitted a lot of important information in this video, I was enjoying it until I noticed what was missing
Gen 5 music hits hard AF though
You are not correct about Pokémon Yellow. There are more differences with Blue and Red, not just the starter!!!
Not sure if I heard you correctly but Ho-oh and Lugia where both catchable in gold and silver they were not exclusive.
6:40 you're wrong you can get ho-oh and lugia in the same game for all 3 gen 2 games.

Gens 1-4 are the golden era of Pokémon. The decline began in Gen 5 and continued onwards
People ask all time for an official game with no old Pokémon being reused yet they simultaneously liked to trample onto Gen5 a ka BW(1) because of that very reason. :eyesroll:
Also, decline only in sellnumbers. Anybody looking at the content itself plus graphical evolution from DP up to BW2 will say the opposite. Plus, the Dream World a ka a browser game was free - don't dare to ask for such service nowadays.

Pokemon BW had better storyline and BW2 had better pokemon
what about pokemon colosseum and pokemon xd. you seem to have forgotten that 1. it's important. because gamefreak's grudge against genius sonority which has everything to do with why the games are getting worse.
Good video but I still think that Pokemon Ultra sun and moon are highly underrated but that's just my opinion.
I'm glad you enjoyed! And it's good to have different opinions, makes things interesting :)
Ultrasun and Ultramoon are mediocre pokemon games, even worse than sun and moon
They're underrated but still not very good imo, just not as bad as gen 6 or 8
British people have such a huge bais for their country I dont have a huge bias for my country
As that was the last thing most people experienced of Gen 7 before moving on I think it really left a sour taste in their mouths
It's such a shame cause I really think Sun and Moon have so much to offer people who want Pokemon to take that next step, but most people will probably never see it cause of the terrible reboots. I really can't tell you how much I hate US&M
I wouldn't say flare was that similiar to team magma. x was actually my first pokemon game but omega ruby was my second so I could see just how similiar the two teams were. sure "flare" and "magma" could both relate to fire but other then that? yeah not much.
also eh...in gen 7 it was a improvement over gen 6 really
also usum if you look at the change log compared to other enhanced versions it may actually have the most amount of changes
I feel like in gen 7 the exp share could have been handled better but both sun and moon and especially the ultra games were more difficulty then gen 6 and the exp share was actually improved so it would be more like gen 5's. saying which moves are super effective are more just useful then really simply "making things easier". as the game could still be challenging with the types being displayed. a lot of the time it didn't do anything since at this point I should know how most of the types work against each other. but the option of turning move indicators off could have been good.
fixing the exp share could have been great to I still found the games had some tough fights though even as early as the trainer school.
actually there are three villians in USUM Team Skull, Lusamine, and Necrozma who is the main villian.
the kahuna fights are more like actual gym leader fights not so much elite 4 fights as in USUM only one kahuna is a elite four member. actually in sun and moon original Hala was a elite four too.
actually gen 6 has the smallest number of new pokemon being 72 compared to (if you include usum) gen 7's 86

The 2D Pokémon games are great. The Pokémon games should have stayed as 2D Japanese Pokémon games. The anime graphics and Japanese names are fine enough. 2D anime graphics are able to allow plenty of content.

Unpopular opinion the plots of Pokémon black and white 1 & 2 aren't really that innovative
The first Game has some decent character development, i agree on that
But the Mythos is rather weak
Like reshiram and zekrom came into being when a dragon split into two, their remains became kyurem... And we barely know anything about The original dragon
And the reveals aren't hard at all to see coming
Black and white 2 is for the most part the plot of 1 but everyone points out from the begging that black team plasma only spew fallacies
Like geez team plasma members are kicking a munna after You get one or two medals
And they're openly comitting terrorism
Like the odd thing would be that they're revealed to be the good guys
That and gameplay wise it worsened some features. While TM are infinite now, You can't grow berries and You can't rematch trainers (which makes levelling up Pokémon a pain in the ass)
@Christian McKee You said it best they were the beginning of the decline
More please!!
