- Sonic Colors was a huge turning point for Sonic. After so many Sonic games being negatively reviewed, albeit through some red-tinted hate goggles, Sega went and made a practically perfect Sonic game, and everyone loved it. The Wii version is of course the one people remember the most and for good reason. However, it also got a DS version which is basically Sonic Rush 3, and like the Rush games, it’s quite good too. Definitely the best of the Rush trilogy but the weakest of the Colors trilogy personally.
Yeah, for Sonic’s 30th anniversary, it was remastered for all consoles, and it got some pretty mixed reactions. Personally, I love it just as much as I do the Wii version. In fact, I think I love it a little more, but sadly, it seemed like it was a trend to hate this game at launch. In fact, I’m kind of in the minority of people who love it and don’t listen to all of the others who bitch about it. Look, I know it has problems, but everyone just makes things seem so much worse than it actually is because that’s the way of the Sonic fan. Even the good ones do this, and it’s annoying.
Charriii has actually covered all three versions of Colors. He originally covered the Wii version in his early years, and as you might imagine, it’s pretty bad. Lucky for us, when he covered Colors Ultimate, he remade that video into a much better but still flawed experience. Which means we can leave the original video in the dust where it belongs. His video on the DS version isn’t as good, but outside of one moment which is in all fairness a problem I have with the fanbase as a whole, it’s just fine.

In case any of you were turned off by my rant about the fanbase, let me make something clear. My extreme rage was a little exaggerated, but my words are very genuine. I've felt this way about the fanbase for a very long time, and every time they blow something out of proportion further solidifies that.
In any case, which is worse? Sonic Colors Ultimate or Tetris Ultimate?
Tetris Ultimate because it murdered the eShop version of Tetris Axis.
@TonySonic Dude, don't apologize. The fanbase has caused a lot of issues with Sonic media since Sonic 06. They also bully other people for not liking the things they enjoy. Characters, ships, you name it.
As stated from Sonic himself from Sonic X (Japanese) "You really need to grow up." And for which Sonic video game is the worse? Idk, there's plenty of bad games out there.

The rant about the fanbase was 100% accurate. Literally trying to confuse Sonic Team and trying to blame them for doing what you want or trying something new is insane.
you do realize there's a thing called execution, right? Something that these Sonic games seem to miss the mark in. There's nothing confusing about anything. All you have to do is a make a game that feels like it has effort put into it.

I didn't think anything would surpass the Elder Princess Shroob moment, but you pulled it off and thoroughly explained why the fans are just as culpable as SEGA and Sonic Team are for the state that Sonic is in. Now if only someone can take the Pokémon fanbase to task in the same way.

You mean the MAJORITY of fans. There's plenty of Sonic fans who LIKED the dark story telling and multiple playable characters and got screwed over by the majority

I remember, after Unleashed and Black Knight came out, feeling quite optimistic about the direction the series was going in, and passionately defending those games to people on the internet who argued that the series had too many characters and that serious, gritty stories had no place in a series about an anthropomorphic hedgehog. Ironically, when Colors came out, I actually defended _it_ against people who thought Sonic felt out-of-character because he was too jokey. It would be a few years before I noticed which way the wind was blowing...
Actually, scratch that. I have an argument to go along with that now: there's a difference between difficulty and quality. And Charriii was discussing the difficulty so your point about him breaking his rule is shot right in the foot. And people seem to agree that PiTs bosses aren't very easy from what I've seen (i even struggled a bit at the end despite being on the same level as regular and elder shroob). So I'd say even at a low level like that, Charriiis point is fair game.

I agree with the rant about the Infinite Colors glitch. Not only is it something you have to go out of your way to do, but it also nukes your game and sets your eyes on fire. I'm not sure why anyone would perform this glitch, but it really angers me that the Sonic fanbase doesn't even bother to ask why they would do this.
Because performing glitches is fun sometimes and dedicated fans can find a miriade of glitches in a game even if it just came out. Some easy glitches are fun to replicate if you don’t have the patience to perform hard ones and we do it only to experience that jarring moment where the game breakes and to have a small laugh. I completely agree that it’s dumb that Chariii consideres the deliberate act of performing a glitch something wrong with the game itself but I wanted to say that the glitch isn’t the only one that gets constantly brought up by the fan that call Ultimate a bad remaster, if anything some of them are more annoyed by the poor implementation of the rival rush, the A.I. upscaled cutscenes and the background objects popping in and out constantly

To summarize the Sonic Franchise rant, Sonic 06 scarred everyone and most people thought the franchise couldn't recover. SEGA tried, and I think it succeeded, but most people were still scarred from 06 and assumed the worst. I agree not all the games after 06 were amazing, but all the games tried something new I applaud them for doing so. 💙

@@crowfather0249 Yeah, it doesn't make sense, especially due to all the pandering that Gen 1 got (getting probably the most Mega Evolution with Charizard and Mewtwo getting 2 and Audino being the only Unova Pokemon to get a Mega, Alolan Forms being only Kanto Pokemon, Let's Go being another game focusing on Kanto, and most of the Gigantamax Pokemon being all Kanto and Galar Pokemon with only 1 Pokemon from Unova, Garbodor, getting one). I don't understand, since it's not like other gens including gen 1 haven't had outlandish pokemon designs(Jynx, Mr. Mime, Gloom, Magmar). Newton's third law of motion says that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction, and I believe that statement is on full display when talking about why the fanbase and the franchise is the way it is. No one thought Sonic would recover from 06, and as a result of everyone assuming the worst, we sent mixed signals to SEGA to the point where they stopped giving a shit and decided to punch us all in the face with Frontiers 😂.

Me too, I also like the game inspite of the corny dialogue, but yeah it’s a great game and a solid 8/10, it just can’t compare to let’s say The Classic Games, Adventure 1 and 2, The Advance Trilogy, Unleashed and Generations least in my opinion.

What I've always wondered about the Wisps is when they phase into Sonic's body through his tummy. What exactly are they doing in there? They don't activate as soon as they go inside him. They have even fallen asleep inside him in Sonic Lost World. And in Sonic Colors DS Sonic even says that it tickles when they go inside him.

I don't know if anyone has pointed this out yet, but charriii5 ADMITTED these aren't actually reviews. Just joke videos. He admitted it in the paper Mario color splash video. The sonic fan base rant at the end is great, but the main video, aka charriiI5's video, is not meant as an actual rant video. But, great job on the sonic fan base rant at the end!
He's fully aware but chooses to ignore that. It's one of the reason why several people take issue with it(there are more reasons, but we'd be here all day if I went over all of them).

This was such a great video. I 100% agree about the rant part. The fanbase is awful. I loved that dt took over near the end. I know I said this on discord but I will say it here as well. I can imagine two scenarios that could’ve led people to accidentally finding the Unlimited Colors Glitch.
1. They’re looking through all the planets for Red Star Rings only to realize the only ones left are in the first planet they checked (or they decided to start with the first planet)
2. Just cycling through them to listen to the map themes. They’re all really good despite their short lengths.
You used “that’s the joke” AGAIN? On top of new clips of a guy “comically” hanging himself and Mario shooting himself in the head?! Yes, Charriii’s Nega and sex jokes are downright horrible (especially in the SA2 Poorly Dubbed video in the later’s case, 🤢), but your death jokes are hardly any better.
As for the rant… I’m inclined to agree because I’m just as annoyed at people for using the same mindset to bash Sonic Frontiers despite the evidence pointing to it being good. But pinning blame on Charriii for this mindset seems a little bit unfair, even if he has contributed to it. He’s not some blind Sonic hater, he loves the series and wants it to improve.
Apart from those things I thought this video was an improvement over past ones. Good job.

Three months before this comment, he was live streaming a playthrough of TMoStH, this year's April Fools special game, and once he beat the game, he started to take some few minutes with the live chat before ending the stream, to admire how great the game was, how they started to use Sonic's friends again, and then he brought what Tony said up. But in a better explained manner, he remembers what happened exactly, people were tired of the multiple playable characters and only wanted to play as Sonic, then it was not until the end of the 2010's when they started to try and take back what they said.
This was great. I agree with your points and I do think that Ultimate is good to a specific extent.
Also, I agree. I had to look at some footage from TH-cam since I've never known the game existed (which should tell you something there), but after looking I agree. Tetris Ultimate is bad. !Long load time, a boring menu and everything is Laggy from start up to even the game itself when you're trying to rotate pieces. How do you screw up Tetris, IT'S TETRIS! The premise is simple but difficult at the same time which makes it effective. But it's not effective when there are issues that ruin the experience. Tetris Ultimate is worse than Colors Ultimate. Thanks for letting me know this game existed.

Sonic and the Secret Rings was absolute booty-cheeks SOLELY because of its controls. Sure, Black Knight was slightly better about them, but you can't act as though Secret Rings was better because it didn't have as many glitches. Just because it works better doesn't always mean it IS better.

I gotta agree that after 06 everything started to go downhill *fast.* Not because SEGA/Sonic Team was starting to lose their touch with the Sonic IP, but because the fanbase for Sonic started causing problems for SEGA/Sonic Team.
• No one like the Storybook Series? Then no new entries and no opportunities to have Sonic explore more pieces of history.
• People hated the combat in Unleashed? No combat in future games and all foes might as well be cardboard cutouts.
•People disliked having unique and fun character playstyles? No new characters or playstyles and only Sonic with the boost formula.
And now with Sonic Frontiers the fans are pissed that SEGA/Sonic Team is reusing level design and level themes from older games when Colors (a game that was praised) did the same via Game Land and even Sonic Mania (another game that got tons of praise) reused level designs from older games while making them feel special.
Like I get that Green Hill and Chemical Plant, but Sky Sanctuary has only been used *6 times* compared to Green Hill's *18/19* (25 if counting each appearance in a series, 27 if counting the origin of the zone) and Chemical Plant's *4* reappearances.
I hate to add to the calling out, but Green Hill is the only location/level theme to warrant a complaint. Both Chemical Plant and Sky Sanctuary have had less reappearances and plus, they're most likely locations many old fans will have fond memories of. (For better or for worse, who knows.) Chemical Plant's infamous platforming section where Mega Mack would raise and kill players unable to escape in time via drowning and Sky Sanctuary being the penultimate stage during Sonic or Tails' campaign or the final stage during Knuckles' campaign.
Story wise for Frontiers, Chemical Plant probably caused Sonic's fear of water to increase drastically which resulted in him remembering the Chemical Plant more than other stages due to that rising water/Mega Mack section in Act 2 while Sky Sanctuary should probably hold more importance to Knux, Sonic's the one that had to rush through the zone in order to get aboard the fully repaired and rapidly rising Death Egg while avoiding and destroying the Eggrobos and dealing with Mecha Sonic Mk II along the way to take back the recently stolen Master Emerald from Eggman which means at some point Sonic went back to Sky Sanctuary to admire the view from up there as well as the ruins that he had to rush past in order to stop Eggman.
Contrary to what many think about Sonic, even he likes to stop and admire the scenery. He also likes to read books if the Storybook Series and Idw issue 49 are anything to go by.

This is not the fans' fault. This was completely on Sega for not implementing those mechanics properly. Your rant makes it seem like it's our fault when we never told Sega to get rid of these. Sega got rid of those. They're the ones who decided to give up and throw away those elements. There were still fans who enjoyed those mechanics. They didn't have to throw that away. We fans don't have as much power as you think. There was nothing stopping them from keeping all of those elements in those games, but the fact that they didn't only makes them look like a bunch of pushovers. If Sega had let Sonic team actually put some effort and not push them to release unfinished products, then maybe we would be singing a different tune. You can't blame the fanbase for not liking terrible quality, even if they do harp on 06. Sega didn't (or hasn't) learn from their mistakes. One thing you and everyone else who likes Tony's rant needs to understand is that we fans want a well-designed game that wants effort. Even if people want games like the classics or adventure games, what we want is a game that screams passion, care, and value. Colors Ultimate really did get slandered when it came out. I knew that glitch was possible outside of emulation, and I didn't even know the process to go through to get it to happen. Also that fanbase rant is still extremely true to this very day.

I personally love the storybook Sonic games and Sonic Unleashed was the first Sonic game I ever owned and is my favorite to this day. I think people hate way too much on things that aren't that important. Sure I will agree that some of the controls of the storybook games were a little hard sometimes, but that was more about what console they were on and not the game itself. To this day the speech Sonic gives at the end of Black Night gives me chills. Not to mention the music being absolutely amazing.
Let's all just appreciate how amazing Sonic is and how much happiness he and his series as brought to all our lives over the decades :3

Credit where credit is due, the research done on the Sonic running faster than light thing was pretty strong. And the Sonic fanbase rant made a lot of good points to the hypocrisy (and annoyance) of the fandom and the fact that reviewers won't let Sonic '06 hate die even though it has been 16 years and counting. You didn't need to be so overly toxic about it and putting it the middle of this video does bring the pacing to a screeching halt, but I do have to give you some credit on those two things.
You do still have a lot to work on in regards to these videos (especially in regards to how you analyze Charriii's content), but it is clear that you are very passionate about Sonic and it is admirable that you have so much love for the franchise.
Hopefully this proves that I'm not some sort of toxic hater and that I'm someone who is just trying to give constructive criticism.

It's one to denounce hate, but jokes as well? Especially ones that are very common like silvers pot leaf head? Tony doesn't have to go and defend 06 like the fucking plague. There's nothing to gain from it, and it makes him come off as a fucking pathetic buzzkill who can't take a joke. Tony is a hypocrite, just like the people he tries calling out. People may be toxic in a negative way, but he's just as toxic. Only difference is he's a toxic fanboy.

Cool! Have you noticed that the fairies in super Mario 3d world and the wisps have some similarities? Like their Colors and magical powers.
If someone is tryna go back to a specific level to show someone something, but they can't quite remember WHICH level it is, but think it's a specific stage, they might enter the level, and it's possible they could get hesitant, and check another level instead, and end up checking every level realize they were right the first time, then come back to the first one. Boom, glitch appeared.
But realistically speaking, how many people are gonna check EVERY level in the game before finding the level they wanted?

It's not one of my favorites, but I can see myself returning to it maybe to get every achievement.

My answer? I know that I’m missing a collectible in one level, I forgot what the start of that level looks like, so I enter and exit each level, only to realize after doing it the last time that the missing collectible was on the first level, therefore accidentally executing the glitch.
@@AngelMorales-dg6op Same excuse as several others. The idea that you’d forget where a certain collectible is on the INCREDIBLY DISTINCT planets that you’d visit all of them and back of one level on each is incredibly rare if it even happens at all.

With the glitch to be fair if you search for red rings after you beat the game you could go to a level, forget why your there, go to a level you like more where you already got all the red rings, and then realize you forgot you were going to collect the red rings, you could go from a to b back to a.

@@tonysonic456 All in all, regardless of any way someone may trigger this glitch, SEGA should learn to not drop a ball like that on their remakes. It's all because of repetitive rushing on most of their products.
The fact that that they even planned to give Frontiers - the game that saved the franchise - the same treatment (but thankfully, their own staff had to talk them out of it, and thanks to that, Frontiers was postponed to 2022) shows how much they live but don't learn (reference and pun intended).
Sonic colors is a very Nastlagic game for me it was one of the first Sonic games I played and I still love it ( Also the Opening song is amazing)
