Vehicle Pulling To The Side - Problem Found & Fixed

  • In this video I discuss & show a car which pulls right when accelerating and left when decelerating so when pressing the throttle there is a large shift to the right in the steering direction, after letting off it pulls heavily back to the left as the load shifts.
    There are a good few items that could cause this problem, to diagnose your issue correctly you will need to lift the vehicle and check each wheel & under your vehicle, check the control arms, the wishbones, ball joints, inner tie rods rack ends, track rod end, wheel bearings, steering rack & any other attaching component depending on your vehicles design.
    This will allow you to find the play and fix the problem.
    In cases like this it is important to determine the type of vehicle pulling that is involved, whether it is an alignment pull, a brake problem pull, a tire / tyre pressure pull, or like in this car a component has free play causing the pull.

      Yes. Without eliminating all play in the steering you can't be sure if there are any other issues. Fix that get the

    Hey, just want to ask whether the inner tire rod can also be a cause of additional noise when driving? Because my car sometimes also pulls to left side when accelerating, but also I have a bit annoying noise, but it doesn't sound as bad as a wheel bearing. thank you.

    • @GerardBurkeBurkesGarage
      @GerardBurkeBurkesGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very very doubtful your noise is that. you need to narrow down the elements of the noise. Is it over rough or uneven terrain? is it a continuous noise? does it get louder as you speed up? give a few examples. Noises can be anything from a loose cover to a major component but the type of noise tells a lot on a test drive.

    • @FlybyLV
      @FlybyLV 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll be honest I have no idea what that sound is, it's like humming (when i just roll with pressed clutch from like 60km/h the sound gets deeper the slower the car gets) . Wheel bearings were checked at a repairshop and they seem fine, swerving car to either side doesn't change the sound. And if I'm driving longer routes 100+KM, after a while the sound disappears. Seems like if something warms up, then the sound is gone, but while its cold it makes a noise. Probably sounds stupid, but yea... I'm not sure what else could make the sound ;/

    • @GerardBurkeBurkesGarage
      @GerardBurkeBurkesGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very hard for me to gauge it off your example, It can be difficult describing noises to mechanics, we are used to most of the different sounds and can find it much easier on a test drive by processing the type of noise (comparing surface sounds) when it occurs (speed, road type etc.) and location of where the noise resonates from.
      Your best bet will be to bring it to a recommended repairer, he/she should be able to find it for you and price up the job, and also tell you if it a safety concern or not. I hope this helps.

      Did you ever fix it??? I just replace the calipers on my Altima cause I broke one of the screws that tightens them and had to buy new ones now I wonder if it’s because of the new calipers

      Jeeps in general are notoriously difficult to set up 100%
      My thoughts are make sure all the simple stuff is done and that all freeplay and tyre pull possibilities are eliminated. After that it's bring it to someone with a quality wheel alignment machine. We use the hunter wheel alignment and it's fantastic. They will check all the settings including camber etc.. And you can see before and after results. If it's a very slight pull sometimes a slight adjustment in the right direction changing the middle spec setting to slightly one or the other side. That can be the difference.
      Anyways good luck with it all 👍🍀

    • @GerardBurkeBurkesGarage
      @GerardBurkeBurkesGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alignment would not cause this issue, you need to get all possible attaching components checked for freeplay, this type of movement is usually caused by a movement under load causing a weight shift and feedback through the wheel.
      Bring it in to a trusted repairer for assessment.

    Hi mate.
    Avoiding an accident, i hit the kerb so hard a chunk of the alloy broke, the tire fell off the rim (personally I think that’s due to the shit glue used by the tyre fitter I used, which wasn’t wrong enough for the impact of hitting the kerb, so the alloy sustained the hit rather than the tire which gave way and pushed the alloy up and backwards so much that it bent the control arm + the fender and the tire was stuck to the fender.) this was no light hit, this was almost a write-off, me vs the curb. $$$ later and the cars fine. However, it steers to the left, same side as the accident ^ help :(
    Btw that’s just me guessing about the glue, I take full responsibility, although previous curb-mounting-accidents in my last car simply pop the tyre n bam, bobs your uncle.
