For an actor playing 007 James Bond must feel like a kid with free range in a sweet shop.. I say this because the actor's wardrobe is going to be something very very special.
Holy crap! I wont buy the sunglasses, I cant really justify the expenditure on the Tom Ford clothing, but I WILL shell out on a Barbour. Quality British clothing, and I already have the Skyfall jacket. Excellent work! Edit: I wont be getting one, till my tailor is open again! One year later, I just had to buy it!
After the tailoring the jacket which was a short coat in a way turned out to look like a Harrington jacket. Love the look. Like this I would buy it but getting it tailored and have 90% changed is a no for me.
I think we should set up a Steve the Tailor franchise, I need one in Chiswick.. Bit like Subway, but without the smell of microwaved-meat and regret. Great video David! - Pb
Comment #2; I agree that a "costume" should be a practical garment that you could wear and nobody would know you were dressed as Bond. It's a good philosophy. Damn I hope that jacket comes to Japan but it'll be its 60 ~ 80,000 yen, easily... Great to see Barbour back in Bond, though!!
Interesting coincidence here : both Barbour jackets Craig wears as Bond are designed by Japanese designers! (Skyfall: Tokito Yoshida, NTTD: Daiki Suzuki)
@@RighteousBrother Yeah, I have the Skyfall one and it’s a bit of a slim fit, especially since it’s supposedly designed as a shooting jacket. Just an extra inch or two in the shoulders and it would be perfect.
If the original jacket is as oversized as you say David I am sure it would not had been used in the movie. So it had to be altered to maintain a more attractive fit. I have a number of Barbour pieces and found them to be excellent quality. Attention to detail is essential when covering Bond clothing. Well done.
I'm actually glad to hear about the awful fit. I love Barbour, and I love that it's featured in another Bond film....but I don't want to get ANOTHER blue jacket 😅 This way it is easy for me to give this one a miss.
I have at least half a dozen blue jackets - always on the lookout for the one closest to the Tom Ford jacket in QoS - I managed to get a really good match eventually!
I love everything about this jacket and feel good because I had a very similar one about 20 years ago which I wore out. Makes me want to go out shopping.
This is great, very informative. But, I've got to add, military doesn't always mean fitted: The Royal Navy storm jackets are very, very similar to this (a bit longer) and very large for movement and for wearing over warm clothing (like the RN jumper the NTTD one is based on).
@@TheBondExperience That's interesting about the Japanese market. I visited in January and found Tokyo very conservative for clothes (my suits fitted in well), but Tokyo and Osaka were very fashion forward. I can see the cool kids there wearing a cone jacket, and pulling it off well!
After rewatching No Time To Die-there are scenes at dock as well as when Bond meets Paloma where you can see clearly the back of Bond’s Jacket if you pause the movie at just the right times, and watch as the light changes. The jacket has no darting in the back panel. Not that darting is a bad thing. Your jacket looks great just as you have it. But if you want a 100% screen accurate coat, the back panel has no extra stitching to take in the fabric. I suspect the manufacturer may have made a jacket specifically for the movie and tailored it to Craig’s measurements or it may have been recreated by one of the team members involved in Bond’s wardrobe.
Thanks for the heads up on the sizing. I could only order online in Japan and picked up an XS. Seriously I am usually a Medium / small and it is roomy as hell. Sizing down is advisable.
Terrific video, David! Gosh, wow, Barbour!! I honestly think you need to contact Barbour and offer your services to improve the jacket! That being said - oh, wow, gosh, BARBOUR! It's like Land Rover - I learned to drive in a 90-inch Defender. When I was growing up in England, certain brands like Barbour were part of the uniform. I literally remember my parents getting me my first Barbour jacket as a kid. It wasn't a style choice - it was what one wore when you were mucking out the horses or at a show. It's a brand that has such deep connections to class and upbringing in England and if you're in a certain circle (which is pretty close to what the real James Bond's circle would have been, the sort of bland and anonymous upper, upper middle class) you'd use "Barbour" as a common noun for a wax jacket the same way you'd say "Kleenex" for tissue. It's so bizarre for me to see the brands I grew up with now develop cultural significance and be "cool" as opposed to just "what one would wear" to a horse show. It's really fitting, though - I think it's such a deep and authentic link to Bond's literary upbringing and social heritage. I think it's spoiled some brands - my dad had a Range Rover for pulling the horsebox, and we had half a dozen Series II and Defenders, and now those workhorses are driven by rappers and movie stars. Barbour, though - this video suggests they've proudly clung to their heritage of being ill-fitting wax circus tents, but NOTHING will keep you drier or more snug on a rainy British weekend, and once you've worn one for 12 hours a day for six months, it'll look fantastic and be the most comfortable item of clothing you own. You definitely improved the fit of it, though! I'd argue you improved it, but I kind of feel that if you buy a Barbour that fits right off the rack, it loses part of its charm.
Hi! First of all, congratulations for all the work you have, studying everything what Bond has and wears. I love this jacket and I was thinking to buy it. Big doubt now: I normally wear size L for most common Barbour jackets (Bedale, Lutz and Beaufort models). According to what you mentioned in the video, should I buy size M ?
Wow. What a difference after being tailored. I honestly don’t trust my tailor enough to do all that work. She’s already ruined 2 jackets of mine in the past with basic alterations. I suppose the jacket will eventually looked roughed up anyway. Looks good David.
Barbour teamed up with Engineered Garments a few seasons back & their stuff is massive. Engineered Garments are always oversized. It's part of their style.
Nice jacket but is this just another instance of Bond wearing a jacket in a climate where it’s not necessary? Watching Craig visibly sweating in the North African desert scene in Spectre wearing that tan jacket was a bit out of place, but needing a jacket to go from Jamaica to the “arctic tundra” that we all know Cuba to be seems to be a rehash of this. Maybe it was filmed during cooler months or perhaps a chilly plane ride 🤔😁 ...
I bought a size small, i wear a 42 suit, 84kg body weight, fits me perfectly, still room in it, the right fit for the jackets design. I reckon a size small would of done the trick for you
TheBondExperience My mistake. When I saw the jacket, initially, it looked like waxed denim. After going back and watching the Cary Fukanaga video, I guess I was wrong. It’s interesting, because I commented on a Instagram post about an RGT jacket that looked like that and they said that they made that as well. So there must be a second RGT jacket somewhere...unless they thought it was as well, but instead went with the jacket in your video.
Great video David, what’s the feel of the jacket is it heavy or light is it a good wind breaker jacket in your opinion, would you wear it on a boat?! If you was going out fishing
Hi David! Another great review. Could I ask you the store / website where you purchased the un-washed Graham jacket? Over here in the UK we only seem to be able to buy the washed version. Many thanks Steve.
Hi David, i'm just splitting hairs here but could Saffin be a clone who is picking off spectre agents i a big to become all powerful? I say this because in one of the trailers , he says ' while your skills die with your body, mine will go on way past my death'? What do you think? perhaps Ms SWANN is her creation? could be a different clone in each part of the story with his facial scaring improving each time he is cloned?
hI David, do you think 'NO TIME TO DIE' WILL LIVE UP TO THE HYPE? In that as it' Danial's final Bond movie it will go out with a bang or more like a trickle similar to 'SPECTRE'?
These jackets can be re waxed when the finish starts to wear, water proofing and for abrasion resistance. The back zippers are traditionaly a game pocket for hunting.
According to their website it is modelled by the hipster generation so designed not to fit 😂 defo tailored. Their will be one more garment to come I reckon - trunks! 😂
The Barbour Graham is hard to find now, although they've also released a Covert jacket which as far as I can tell is virtually identical, I've just bought one, it's very nice still a touch wide, but not as bad as the Graham and it doesnt have the bat wings! Also - when you watch NTTD - you'll notice that the jacket is a very loose fit on Bond, it definitely does not fit like a harrington.
Hi David, you were lucky to be able to get the "unwashed" version rarer than hens teeth now, I have just received the washed version in small and i would say it fits pretty good (i usually buy a size down in barbour) and i'm of a similar build to you 40inch chest but larger waist. did your tailor alter the cuffs on this jacket or are they still as it came.
I've just had a look at the Engineered Garments Instagram page as I'd never heard of them before, and boy do they make a lot of shapeless, baggy, ugly looking crap !!
I've tried on that jacket. Comically big on me. Most importantly, I didn't like it. Not worth the cost of tailoring. I still would not wear it. Doesn't work for the climate I am in. I already have a ton of navy jackets I would prefer to wear. I can't see wearing that jacket in the Caribbean unless you are in a hurricane.
@@TheBondExperience David, it was beyond huge. I am 6'5" and wear a 42Long. The size L I tried on was way too wide and the arms were both baggy and too long by a couple inches. The sunglasses are really great.
David as far as I'm conserned You nailed it as you always do
The long, hidden back pocket is called a game bag. It’s for storing small animals for while you’re hunting. Very common in vintage hunting jackets.
This is correct! In German it's called "Hasen-Tasche", which means Rabbit Pocket.
Or for carrying the Evening Standard to read on the train.
I really like the jacket and the way you Bond-tailored it!! 👍🏼
Much appreciated!
Waited up for this! Lol
Props to your’s and your tailor’s level of commitment David! 👌🏻👌🏻

I can recommend a small if you are a similar build to David, you might need to slightly tailor the arms but that would be to get a perfect fit.
Mine arrived today, size small, fits perfectly.
I wear a size 38 in bedale, size 42 suit, 83kg weight
Here’s hoping there is a release of the jacket that isn’t a tent 🍸

I am going to buy it now, David. LOL! I might need to get a frugal bond version.
I am sure it exists!
A Barbour jacket for Cuba. Now I've seen it all...
I laughed out loud when you said batwings 😂
I think the jacket looks better with the darting! Such a nice fit now.
Nicely done Peter keep it up 👍🏽

Is this wearable in the hotter climate, or is it like Bond in Spectre with the suede jacket in the hottest part of the world?
I once went to Cuba in June. Even a t-shirt was overdressing. & it had to be changed thrice daily.
