- The European Championships return this summer for another festival of football! A fantastic tournament, its history has provided some of football's most memorable moments.
We thought we'd take a closer look at each tournament since 1992 and rank them using tiermaker! If you want to give it a go click the link below!

You should switch 2008 and 2016. Euro 2008 was phenomenal. So many great matches: Turkey-Czech Republic, Croatia-Germany, the Dutch demolishing Italy and France, only to be shocked by Arshavin and Russia in the quarters, the crazy match between Turkey and Croatia, dramatic victories of Germany over Portugal and Turkey, and of course the birth of tiki-taka with Spain finally winning a big tournament.

My Footballing consciousness awoke fully in 1986- Mexico. Going to bed with a stomach ulcer as an 11 yr old hoping we’d beat Poland. Maradona being God like. Lineker being Jesus to get the Golden Boot.
After that I supported and later obsessed over my club. Italia 90 was life changing.
Then I went to uni in the 90s and got drunk.
(As for Euros- I genuinely followed Euro 92 first. But I still remember an excitement for Euro 88, and some school pals rushing home to watch England lose to Van Basten and Co. Losing all three matches- damn…)
European Championships 1992 - Dull as dishwater football, backpass rule badly needed - Poor
Euro 96 - Not great quality overall, but some fantastic drama in the semis and final - Good
Euro 2000 - Arguably the most exciting ever International tournament, Spain 4-3 Yugoslavia is the one that really sticks in my head - Out of This World
Euro 2004 - Great upset tournament, the excellent Greeks getting past some really exciting teams Portugal, Czech, France - Good
Euro 2008 - Some fantastic games particularly in the group stage, Russia underdog story and extremely worthy winners in Spain - Excellent
Euro 2012 - Bog standard int tournament; exciting final at least - Average
Euro 2016 - Some good underdog stories but 24 team format is not ideal - Good
Euro 2020 - Some really good games and a good final, even pretending to be neutral I'm going to say it was interesting seeing England make a final for once; ... but undermined by lack of fans due to the circumstances - Good

From first to last
1) Euro 2000. Brilliant players everywhere, France 🇫🇷 Italy 🇮🇹 Netherlands 🇳🇱 England 🏴 Spain 🇪🇸 Portugal 🇫🇷 Serbia 🇷🇸 Romania 🇷🇴 and so many wonder goals. The final old school Euros with 4-4-2 and 5-3-2 formations
2) Euro 2008. The start of the Spanish golden gen, Russia's run with Arshavin, Turkey shocking everyone
3) Euro 2004. Lots of legends for France 🇫🇷 England 🏴 Spain 🇪🇸 Portugal 🇵🇹. Italy 🇮🇹 and Germany 🇩🇪 out in Round 1. Netherlands 🇳🇱 and Czech 🇨🇿 played wonderful football. Great Greece story 👏 🇬🇷
4) Euro 2020. So many upsets- Swiss 🇨🇭 beating France 🇫🇷 on pens. Czechs 🇨🇿 surprising Netherlands 🇳🇱. Denmark 🇩🇰 reaching semis after Eriksen's collapse. Hungary 🇭🇺 going rambo on Germany 🇩🇪 and France 🇫🇷. England’s run to the final (sad end).
5) Euro 2012. Decent football, but few interesting storylines. Spain dominated as expected.
6) Euro 1996. Terrible play (except Czech 🇨🇿 v Russia 🇷🇺 3-3). Czechs reached the final and another classic England 🏴 v Germany 🇩🇪 semi.
7) Euro 2016. Dreadful football. Only highlights were Iceland 🇮🇸 and Wales going very far. Boring beyond belief, so many pen shootouts and 1-0 wins
8) Euro 1992. Denmark 🇩🇰 won, but last year of backpass rule. Horrible to watch on highlights and final cup with just 8 teams.

EURO 2012 was my first, but EURO 2016 was my favorite. ;)

2000: A really good French team, as well as really good Italian and Netherlands team. An upcoming Portugal team. Many enjoyable games.
2016: Many heart-warming games - the success of Cymru, Iceland, Hungary, an upcoming French team. The eventual winners weren't that good, but there were many good games.
2008: Spain were class, and it was cool to see Türkiye do well. Some class teams like Spain (of course) and Germany.
2012: Again, Spain were class, and their performance in the final were probably the best I've seen in an international final. Italy's game against Germany was sound.
2021: It was really bad for fans and some teams for many of them to have to travel across Europe. There were some good games though - Spain vs Croatia, France vs Switzerland, Italy vs Spain, etc. No real good teams, but Italy played well in the final.
1992: Great teams like the Netherlands and Germany were on the wane, but there were many class players there. Another tournament more memorable for games than the quality of teams.
2004: I don't remember much about this tournament other than Greece defending their way to the title.
1996: Half-full grounds is the main thing I remember from this tournament. This was a decent warm up to the 1998 World Cup (the best since 1982), but apart from the Germany-England game and the rise of the Czechs, little stands out.
Highly disagree about 2008, 2016 and 2020 but fun video regardless

My footballing consciousness begins in 2006 during the world cup final. Only thing I remember is Zidane headbutting and getting a red card 💀

I watched all Euros since Euro 88. For me Euro 2000 is tge best and Euro 88

I agree Euro 2020 was one of the worst euro tournaments ever there were too many own goal's and too many boring games that went to penalties but overall Italy did deserve to win there's many euro tournaments hosted that were good but the winner should not have won like Euro 2016 Portugal winning was a huge fluke

08 just doesn't stick in my mind as much. Really have to think hard to recall it compared to the others I have been watching football for. So struggled to rank it as highly if didn't have as big an impact on me.
And 2016 is ALWAYS going to be top tier for me, the best summer of my life, bar none, genuinely!
2016 was a hopeless, poor tournament, 2008 was a classic tournament, but there were no English teams and they forgot it. How on earth this rating because of personal reasons.
2016 was absolutely rated out of personal reasons 😂 we say that though in the video - 2008 in hindsight we definitely got wrong!
😂 usually English people they rate all tournaments which Germany has won as a poor tournament.
