  • This is a clip of the information updates segments of Thunder Bay Information Radio CKSI 90.5 FM.
This station broadcasts many different useful tidbits of information for travelers and those living in the community. The station's broadcast includes the weather forecast from Environment Canada, road conditions (which I haven't heard lately), closures and construction information from the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, the exchange rate from the Bank of Canada between the US and Canadian dollar, the stock exchange report (the automated messages which I haven't heard lately), emergency information when needed, trivia tidbits, this day in history, current events and promotions for local businesses. Since the collapse of Instant Information Services, Inc, this station is owned by Thunder Bay Information Radio Inc. who has ran it at least since 2018.
Sites in Ontario that were owned by the now closed Instant Information Services, Inc at Quinte West, Kingston, Brockville, Cornwall were identical to CKSI but also carried real time updating border wait times for the Thousand Islands and Cornwall border crossings to the U.S.A. provided from the Canada Border Services Agency. It is unfortunate the service in these areas no longer exist. The original ones in the Maritimes operated by the late Jack McGaw were also all similar. Sadly the Information Radio network which had locations in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island (Confederation Bridge) and Ontario he established with Tim Hern is down to the two sites in Ontario which are Thunder Bay CKSI 90.5 FM and Muskoka CIIG 98.3 FM. There is no plans for these two remaining sites to close anytime soon it seems. It is always possible for the current network to open new sites but that doesn't seem to be currently happening as it once did.
