    Another great Demo Cheryl Love the hint of holding the brush back up the handle, to get a freer line. This made me remember back many years when I was at art school that they said to draw from the shoulder not the wrist Which did loosen up my work Thanks Christine

      that is such great advice to draw from the shoulder. Works well for straight lines as well like masts and rigging - if I move my whole arm it is a more successful line.

    Stunning, your style is beautiful. I’d love to be able to see your palette, you get such lovely thick pigment and I want to learn more about your water control technique

      Oh thank you! I will start to show my palette more during the painting process in future videos. I find if I am zoomed out to show both painting and palette then the painting is small. I do mix rich pigment particularly with greens because I don't very often like to do a second wash on foliage.

    Thank you. I only found you today and commented on your 'distant foliage' video, and requested more gum tree paintings. And just found this video! Thank you

    Great trees. Im wondering is that a round brush that you have squished down the end of the hairs or is it a special type of tree painting brush ??? TIA

    • @cherylbrucecreativ
      @cherylbrucecreativ  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes Lindy, it is a round brush but the end flattens to a straight edge when you flatten it out rather than a pointy point, so I prefer this for lots of effects. You can still get a point/thin edge though when you need it. It used to be the code BW170 and was easy to source but it has become more difficult. My local supplier is Tammy from Artspace Pop Up Gallery - artspacepopupgallery@gmail.com It works extra special as a tree brush, clouds, portraits right down to the eyelashes. I couldn't live without it.

    so happy to have found your channel ..such greats vids! can u tell me what kind of brush you are using in this demo? thanks!

    • @cherylbrucecreativ
      @cherylbrucecreativ  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Deborah you are plowing through the videos today! thanks for all of your great comments. The brush is one that is coded BW170. It became hard to get in Australia (I am not sure where you are in the world) but I have a new supplier here and you can get in touch via artspacepopupgallery@gmail.com and Tammy stocks them now in a small, medium and large size. The old coding I am usually using a number 8 most often which is equiv to the medium in the new numbering. I recommend the large as well though for skies etc. If you are overseas google BW170 and you might be able to find them in your area. Not all Chinese brushes are not made equal though! I have tried many and use these in nearly all that I paint.

    No ghost gums in the foothills of Alberta, Canada, but such a valuable tutorial. The "dancing brush" 💓
    And your voice is heavenly, as a person who responds to asmr sounds.

      I will have to look up what type of trees would would be wanting to paint in Canada. I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry re your comment - I hate my voice and especially hearing it on recordings and I have been consciously trying to speak slower and more clearly because I've always been told I speak too quickly and softly. My daughters tell me my voice is transparent! I didn't know what asmr sounds were so I had to google and found recordings of fingernails tapping on phones and things being clicked together. I'll have to re-listen to the video to see if I am tapping or scraping something. Or is my voice like fingernails down a blackboard?

      @@cherylbrucecreativ Lol! Oh my gosh, take it as a compliment. There are many triggers that vary with the individual. I hate the contrived videos with finger scratching and role-playing that verges on soft porn. Your voice would be considered "inadvertent asmr", mimicking the soft comforting sounds of rustling and murmuring associated with childhood feelings of security. Sends tingles from my head and down my spine. Your daughters' description of your voice as "transparent" is lovely. Soft and slow is ideal and who knows? You could get a lot of subscribers who seek a voice like yours to relax, and "inadvertently" turn them into watercolour painters! I actually listened to a tutorial last night to cure my insomnia - and do *not* take that as an insult. 💚
