  • In The Netherlands, you only can travel by the so called "OV-Chipkaart". You can buy them at the ticketmachines. When you enter the station, just check in, and check out when you are at the destination!

    Travel note: please carry coins if you know you must take a train, as a backup for credit cards. All 3 of our credit cards didn't work at the ticket machine yet they worked everywhere else in the city of Breda

    I think if I have a subscription (especially the one allowing me to travel at all times) the check in/out should be optional.

    Am i able too see my traveling history with an anonymus chipkaart or only with a personlike chipkaart?

    • @TrainsofHolland
      @TrainsofHolland  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, you are able to see your travel history, even with an anonymous chipkaart. If you go to the following website:
      www.ns.nl/en/travellers/ov-chipkaart/menu-ov-chipkaart/service-for-the-ov-chipkaart there will be explaned how to do it.
      To see your travel history, you have to make a 'Mijn NS Account'. If you don't have one yet, you can create one at here:
      www.ns.nl/selfservice/login . This site is only in Dutch. Click 'Account aanmaken' and do what the site says you have to do. (If you have questions, you can always mail me.)
      You can also see your travel history at the ticket machines. Hold you Chipkaart at the scanner at the right bottom, and choose 'Tonen transacties'.

    Is it necessary to check-in & check-out single ticket in a bus bought from a bus driver? Thank you.

    If i have an anonymus OV-Chipkaart,can i see my rest money on the card when im in the train and do i have to do anything on the ticket automat before i check in and drive?

    • @TrainsofHolland
      @TrainsofHolland  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bahnfreak182 You can see the amount of money on your card at the conductor.
      When you start your journey, you have to make sure there is at leasr €20, on your card.

    • @xvslnx
      @xvslnx 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      isn't €20 a bit too much? I mean...if I want to go somewhere and I have to change 2 times (two buses and 1 tram), do I need to have €20 for each of them? Like €20 before I get on bus 1, then €20 before I get on bus 2 and €20 before I get on the tram?! And one more question: If for some reason I don't have a card yet and I want to make a single journey (go to the center of the city) or a return one (go to the center and go back), can I buy a single (double) ticket? If yes, where from and how much it would (potentially) cost? For clarification: the first example for the 2 changes is in Amsterdam, the second example with the single ticket is for Eindhoven. I am going to NL next Friday and I am trying to plan everything regarding the transportation.

    The video starts with the person already in possesion of the card. It does not explain where to get the card from and how to load money on it. I want to travel around the city of Arnhem for one day after coming from Nijmegen by train. Should I buy an OV Chipkaart card at Nijmegen to get the train to Arnhem and continue to use the card for the rest of my trip? I have no idea how many Euros to load the card with, what if my loaded card uses up all the credit? Thanks :)

      Hey Tony,
      You're completely right, let me explain it:
      You can buy a card at the ticket machines. The card will cost €7,50. To travel by train, you have to activate the card for traveling by train. You can do this at the ticket machines as well. There has to be an amount of money on your card if you want to travel by train. This is €20. Check-in in Nijmegen and check-out in Arnhem. The cost of your journey will be subtracted from the card. If you want to make other journeys, just check-in at the start of the journey and check-out at the end. Make sure there is at least €20 on your card, otherwise you can't travel.

    I have an ov chipkaart Weekend vrij. So I have to check in and out every time, right? There on the website is written that I can travel during the weekend wherever I want in the Netherlands. That's right? Thank you.

    • @TrainsofHolland
      @TrainsofHolland  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cristian Marin That's correct. You have to check in and out for every journey you make. And yes, you can go where ever you want to go in The Netherlands.

    • @CristianMarin
      @CristianMarin 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      TrainsofHolland Ok. Another question I have: if I do check in at the gate (like you on the video), I have to do check in also at the "spor"? Or one time is at the gates is enought? Sorry for bothering so much but I have to know. Next week on the weekend I want to go somewhere from Amsterdam.

    • @TrainsofHolland
      @TrainsofHolland  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cristian Marin Hey Cristian, you only have to check-in once when you pass the gates.

    If I have e-ticket, do I still need the OV-card? and what about bus tickets? should I buy from the driver or is there also machines? thanks

    • @BassMastersOfficial1
      @BassMastersOfficial1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You don't need the ov card when you have your e-ticket. You can buy a ticket from the bus driver with your debit or creditcard but you can use your ov aswell!

      Your e-ticket has a QR-code which can be utilized to scan in/out.

    What do you do at gated stations if you have an all-Benelux Interrail ticket or some other paper International Ticket?
    Also, what happens if a valid OV chipkaart is rejected by a gate?
    (In Britain, I often have valid tickets rejected by the gates at large stations. On one occasion a valid ticket was rejected FIVE SECONDS after I purchased it.)
    The video does not mention the problems which arise where at (e.g. Hengelo) passengers are wanting to make a quick change of train from NS to an independent operator, or vice versa

    • @TrainsofHolland
      @TrainsofHolland  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's true. I am going to make a better version later, and I will mention the change from operator.
      If you have an Interrail ticket, you still have to check in and check out. I don't know if the Interrailticket has to be bought at the ticket machine, or if it's an E-Ticket. In both circumstances, (paper ticket or E-ticket) you can check in and out at the wider gate. (1:07). This gate accepts paper tickets and E-Tickets.
      If the gate rejects a ticket, the gate says what you have to do, but that's in Dutch. If it says "Saldo opladen", you don't have enough money on your card. You can put extra on it, at the ticket machines.
      It can also say "Pas ongeldig". It means: "Invalid card". Go to the information desk, or to the column.
      When you see "Pas onleesbaar", unreadable card, you just need to hold it for the gate again. If it says it again, go to the informationdesk, or to the column.

      TrainsofHolland The Interrail ticket is a paper ticket which is valid on a number of days in a month. You have to fill in each box with the date of travel, also it is only valid with a passport.

    • @TrainsofHolland
      @TrainsofHolland  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andrea Hammond Roger Sexton OK. If the Interrail is a paper ticket, you have to check in and check out at every station in The Netherlands. If you travel in (for example) Belgium, you show the ticket to the conductor, and he will tell you what to do.

    • @Fan652w
      @Fan652w 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      TrainsofHolland Your video is good, but you do not seem to have understood the problem holders of Interrail and other paper International tickets are going to have at gated Dutch stations. These paper tickets are clearly NOT OV chipkaarts, nor are they any other form of smartcard! So how do holders of paper International tickets get through the gates? This likely to be particularly important at Roosendaal, which has an hourly sopping service from Antwerpen, many of whose passengers will have paper tickets issued by NMBS.
      I hope a senior official from NS has seen this discussion, and will deal fully with the issues I raise..

    • @TrainsofHolland
      @TrainsofHolland  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Roger Sexton If the ticket isn't a paper ticket, nor an E-ticket, you can't check in and out. If you get at a station where the gates are closed, make a call with the SOS/Information column. They will open the gates for you. Sorry for the inconvenience.
