Pretty in Pink Sun Hat by Lyza Walters
Yarn Used: Medium 4 weight yarn 100 percent Acrylic
Crochet Hook: 5.mm and 4.5mm
Blue hat’s yarn color: turqua & pretty ‘n pink
Pink hat’s yarn color: Petal pink, pretty ‘n pink & shocking pink
Yarn brand: I’ve been using Redheart super saver for all of my hats’ projects.
Size for 1 to 3 yrs old
Hat’s circle diameter: 5.5inch
Abbreviation used:
Sc- Single crochet
Fpdc- frontpost double crochet
Hdc- half double crochet
St(s)- stitch(es)
Rnd(s)-round(s)
Ch-chain
Rpt-repeat
Hat’s Circle
Note: Join with a loose slip stitch to the top of first stitch all the way unless it stated. Slip stitch joined is counted as stitch.
( )-repeat pattern inside it only.
Begin with magic ring
Rnd 1: Sc loosely in magic ring(counted as beg.hdc throughout rnds) then 8 HDC. =9Hdc
Rnd 2: Ch 1 & pull it tight, Sc loosely and hdc in same st, 2 hdc in each st around. =18hdc
Rnd 3: Ch 1 & pull it tight, Sc loosely in same st, fpdc in next post, (hdc in next 2 sts, fpdc in next post)- rpt 7 times. Hdc in last st. =9 fpdc & 18 hdc
Rnd 4: Ch 1 & pull it tight, Sc loosely in same st, fpdc in next post, (hdc in next 3 sts, fpdc in next post)- rpt 7 times. Hdc in last 2 sts. =9 fpdc & 27 hdc
Rnd 5: Ch 1 & pull it tight, Sc loosely in same st, fpdc in next post, (hdc in next 4 sts, fpdc in next post)- rpt 7 times. Hdc in last 3 sts. =9 fpdc & 36 hdc
Rnd 6: Ch 1 & pull it tight, Sc loosely in same st, fpdc in next post, (hdc in next 5 sts, fpdc in next post)- rpt 7 times. Hdc in last 4 sts. =9 fpdc & 45 hdc
Rnd 7: Ch 1 & pull it tight, Sc loosely in same st, fpdc in next post, (hdc in next 6 sts, fpdc in next post)- rpt 7 times. Hdc in last 5 sts. =9 fpdc & 54 hdc
Hat’s body
Rnd 8: Ch 1 & pull it tight, Sc loosely in same st, fpdc in next post, (hdc in top of next 6 hdc, fpdc in next post)- rpt 7 times. Hdc in last 5 sts. =9 fpdc & 54 hdc
Rnd 9 to 11: Repeat rnd 8 pattern.

I looked at a bunch of little girl hat patterns before finding this one. Thanks so much! I knew when the crown was to be around 5.5" it would works. I have almost finished it in cotton. It's lovely!

Love this pattern, the way the extension is done with the front posts separating them makes it easy to follow, i had to change the stitch names when i wrote it down as i live in the uk so SC became a DC and a HDC became a HT(half treble) but it is a wonderful pattern

Lovely looking hat but I just I couldn't follow this tutorial at all 😔 I can't see how to mix the front post and normal stitches and increase by 9 stitches on round 3 without putting 2 stitches in each of the stitches between the front post ones and then on round 4 how can I put 3 stitches into the existing 2 between the front pkst ones? It makes no sense whatsoever to me 😕
Could this be done in audio,,I am a beginner and would be easier to learn from autio. I have having a hard time finding a pattern for girls ages four and six that actually fits. Do you have any in audio for head circumference of 19 inches thanks

What size hook? I see you mention a 5. mm and a 4.5 mm. Going to make this for a 2 year old.

Hello there, it's 5.0mm on the hat's body and 4.5 mm on the brim. This is medium 4 weight yarn 100% acrylic. You can use cotton also.

Hello, I'm sorry I have no idea, I haven't try using baby yarn yet. If the hook size recommended of that yarn is smaller to what I am using, you can still make this hat just continue increasing after round 7 to get your desired size.

Hello, Continue increasing 1 more round. You will have 72 stitches in total. Or use a bigger hook. 5.5mm in hat's crown and body and 5.mm in the brim.

I have been crocheting for a very long time and this is the strangest pattern that I have ever seen for a hat. Doesn’t work.
I almost didn't make this hat because of your comment. Not only does the hat work it's gorgeous! When watching the video along with reading the pattern it all comes together beautifully!
