    I just picked up a Czechoslovakian Prim from the 60s, and has a lovely patina all over on what looks like a linen dial. It's nice to hear a little bit more about the patina and where it actually comes from.

    Real patina is great and adds to the sort of romance of a vintage watch, musical instrument, book, car, etc. The point at which patina becomes damage is subjective. Faux patina is trendy but almost always falls short of looking "right."

    I understand the appeal of "patina" but I don't personally care for it. If restored items sell for less now then that works for me! For me patina translates to "I can't afford to get this repainted". ;) Admittedly I understand it more with something like a vintage watch than an automobile.

    • @GoldammerVintageWatches
      @GoldammerVintageWatches  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha that’s totally okay :D I also have no problem with watches being lightly refurbished as long as the original condition is maintained. I have a preference for pieces that are left completely in original condition with lots of patina, but I also have a preference for watches that are a few decades old and look like they just came from the factory. Tastes are different and that's a good thing :D

  • @ryanpascualph

    Patina on a watch, eventhough many says that it still a damage, but I think it tells more story, it shows more character and it feels more meaningful for its age. I don't say that a nice and good-looking finish dial is not prefer but c'mon guys, even our grandmothers and grandfathers has their wrinkles but we really still care and love them ❤️ Kudos #Horologists and #Hobbyist 🥂🥂🥂

    Real vintage watch patina

  • @jharris947
    @jharris947 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    But they're not in their original condition! They didn't originally come with any patina. 4:27 Why anyone would buy or wear a watch in that state is beyond me. And that's from a big vintage Omega fan.

    • @GoldammerVintageWatches
      @GoldammerVintageWatches  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The watches shown are all in original condition, only aged. Many collectors appreciate patina on their pieces because the different types of aging make them unique. A watch from factory looks like any other, however, I also appreciate a watch in top condition without patina. As described in the video, the beauty in it is in the eye of the beholder. For me, it's perfectly fine that you don't like aged watches, but you also have to accept that there are people who look for and enjoy exactly that :D

    • @Eza_yuta
      @Eza_yuta 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@GoldammerVintageWatches Maybe what he meant of not in original condition, the watch originally not had any patina. Thus the patina changed the "original" watch appearance.

      In the classic car world it's referred to as a 'survivor'...ie. it has lasted all these years without being messed about with. Originality is honesty, you can see it's history. Hey if we all liked the same thing the world would be pretty boring

  • @mangello13

    Hi Felix,
    I just bought a very nice vintage Omega Constellation a few days ago with - dare I say - an even nicer patina than what you are wearing in your video.
    The problem is that :
    For the past few weeks, I've been concerned, as I've been seeing more and more watches with beautiful patinas or "that look like real patinas, but I feel like many are fake and man-made." (artifact)?...
    Maybe it would be wise to make a video dedicated to "false patinas" because I'm sure there are more and more of them since collectors appreciate them!..

    • @GoldammerVintageWatches
      @GoldammerVintageWatches  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Sam, first of all congrats to your new wrist buddy!! It is not easy to tell from pictures if the patina has been touched up. But with a magnifying glass this is no problem. Personally, I have never seen a watch with false patina. I also don't think it's worth it to artificially rework a watch, simply for the reason that theirs are traded higher in better condition. No matter if it is a beautiful and even patina. Nevertheless, thank you for the video idea, I will deal a little more with the subject!

      @@GoldammerVintageWatches Sometimes not possible to clean a watch dial, sometimes not worth it, as adds to the attraction of an old fashioned watch, or could lower the value.

    • @GoldammerVintageWatches

    In coin collecting patina is often seen as desirable.
    To me tho..doesnt work on watches. Just makes them look kinda damaged as opposed to how patina can look on coins.
