  • Walking up Glen Rosa on a rainy Sunday, up to the saddle and then up North Goatfell. The cloud came down, the rain came on, then I got to a big lump. Did I climb it? Eh, nope! Not this time!

I was on the Saddle on Sunday, up from Sannox. Very windy, 650m cloud base, sections with 8 inches of snow and I bailed 50m from the summit of North GoatFell also, returning to Brodick via Glen Rosa. Not good in bad conditions.

Sounds like you did the right thing. I’m hoping to get back up to try again soon, before the mountain festival.

The hill will always be there. You know when it doesn't feel right to carry on. That route is a bit of a challenge but not just as bad as it looks!

So true. I did go back and made it over. Great hike!

If your not confident, always best to turn back, your instinct is always your friend! Great views!

Always! I had intended to get back up there in better weather and see how it looked then, but I've just not had the opportunity.

Very glad you decided to do the sensible thing especially when your on your own. You have succeeded where I failed this week as didn’t get down to the sea like I promised myself I would. You climbed a mountain in the rain and wind and got yourself out! Another great video 😊

Thanks Vicky. This is your week. I can feel it! It's pretty warm here on Arran so if you've got the same weather, a dip in the sea will be just the ticket.

I traversed goatfell from the saddle this past weekend with cracking weather- how did you find the climb up North Goatfell? Certainly some hairy bits imo- not sure if I lost trail or what. Arran is incredible!

I went back up earlier this year and managed to make the summit. I was turned back that first time because I didn't know the route and the visibility was very poor. This year there was still snow on the ridge and I almost got turned back, but a more experienced party helped me out by kicking some steps in the snow for me. Did you go over the ridge or round the bypass?

@@CamsCampbell I really lucked out with the weather/ can’t imagine doing the same route in low visibility. I ended up taking the bypass in the end. This was my first solo “scramble” so wanted to stay in my comfort zone. Shame I missed the festival in may but hoping to go next year with the group/ guides!

how do you keep your camera from being wet? I really love the cinematic wide angle shots with background music. So relaxing. The timelapse on the hill with the clouds passing along. Totally awesome.

Thanks Ruben. The Sony a7iii is weather sealed and when the rain gets heavy I use the GoPro.
