  • The 3DS and Wii U can play most Zelda games from 1986-2022 without being modded. Some of those games are still the definitive ways to play them.

    As an early adopter of both, I actually hadn't thought about that. It's amazing how much zelda love the Wii u and 3ds got. I still will always cherish my time spent with the Wii U, its what made me a Nintendo fan 🐺🎮💕

      Being an owner of the Wii U during it's run was a special time. I felt like I was part of an exclusive club that everybody else was oblivious to. Even after telling people how great the games were, they would always brush it off as if the Wii U was a joke. It's been bizarre how people have been perceiving the Wii U lately. No longer is it a joke and more of a sought after item. Really weird stuff.

    This is amazing. Also, I have the Wii U WW and TP. I've finished WW, as another improvement was the way the Triforce piece quest was done, in the Wii U version some pieces you can just find. The exorbitant rupee fee to decode the location maps no longer applies for all the pieces. That was wonderful!

    Really enjoyed this. I recently went back and beat Ocarina of Time 3D. It's my favorite Zelda game and the QoL changes makes the game so much better, which is amazing considering how great OoT is to begin with imo. I can only hope that we get ports of WW and TP on the switch.
    So many of my favorite switch games are just Wii-U ports. And thats not a bad thing.
    Also, I would have loved to see (again) all your Zelda edition 3DS in this video. Would have been a perfect companion to all the fantastic games you showed off. Either way another banger from you my dude. Looking forward to the next one.

I love it! Hopefully WW and TP get ported over. I still don't know why Nintendo hasn't done it already.
      The Wii U has such awesome games. It was kind of a let down when Nintendo was only releasing ports of those games. I had already played the years prior and would have loved something new. Though, it was nice having those games on the go.
      I really should have shot footage of those Zelda 3DS systems. I'm sure I'll make another video all about them. I'm still on the lookout for the Majora's Mask special edition New 3DS XL. It has eluded me since it's release. I've actually never seen one in person. Hopefully prices will go down on them in the future.

    I bought a Wii U only last year and a 3DS a month ago. I'm loving them both. I'm not sure why, but the Wii never appealed to me, probably because of the controllers. Because of that I never even considered the Wii U thinking it was a minor upgrade. Now I have it, I can't believe how wrong I was about the system. I gotta give the 3DS credit for getting me invested into the Zelda series. I played some roms of Zelda 1, Minish Cap, and Link's Awakening DX on emulators. Eventually, I found Link Between Worlds and found myself enjoying it. I didn't know what this game would be like. I also played a little bit of Link to the Past GBA before, also enjoyed it. Since then, I grew my collection with more titles, including Zelda games. I really enjoyed Skyward Sword HD and Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition. Amazing titles and then there was Breath of the Wild. I'll never forget how this game opened my desire to explore an open world and surviving enemies ready to attack. I would've been a primary Mario gamer, but the Zelda series is something I'll enjoy to play, even if there were some challenging moments.

    I for clarification have no background or experience with Nintendo systems, I'm and I hope to change that, a PS and Xbox kid. Now, the video is not just fantastic in how digestible and easy it was to follow what you were talking about, but it also tackled other consoles than the Wii U and The 3DS, that alone made it so good for me as an outsider to the Nintendo ecosystem. I will need another rewatch, but if I understood correctly, getting the Wii U and the 3DS will allow me to play all Zelda titles other than the OoT remake which is supposedly superior correct? I can live with that tbh, actually I feared that it would be hard to get the original ROMs, but it seems Nintendo thought of that. Thanks so much in advance, I really apprectaite such videos for newbies like myself.
    Edit: It's on the 3DS, I went to see your reaction to the E-shop closing down and thankfully you mentioned Oot 3D there. It also clarified to me one comment you replied to saying how "They used to be", I forgot about the E-shop thing so I was consfused. Thanks again.

    • @NeanderMeander
      @NeanderMeander  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for watching! With the 3DS and Wii U you can play every Zelda game up to Breath of the Wild. You can even play the original version of OOT and Majora's Mask on the Wii U because Nintendo released them as N64 Virtual Console games. You'll need to mod the Wii U to get them now that the eShop has closed though. However, the Switch has recently gotten many of the legacy Zelda titles available on it through the Switch Online Service. Even the Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Minish Cap are available on it if you are willing to pay for them every month. The only games you can't play on the Switch that you can play on the Wii U and 3DS are OOT 3D (the remake for the 3DS), Majora's Mask 3D (the remake for the 3DS), Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess. I know it gets confusing, so let me know if you have any other questions.

Do you think the used market will go down in price or go up? It pains me to spend more than msrp for something that is second hand but I guess that’s just video games haha. What would your advice be? I've started a few Zelda games but never finished any till BotW. With the release of Skyward Sword HD I've thought about trying to work my way through them in their chronological order. Do you think there is any benefit to this or should I just play them as it suits my fancy?

    • @NeanderMeander
      @NeanderMeander  ปีที่แล้ว

      BOTW is such a great game. I've back to it over and over and I keep finding new things in it. It's crazy how good it is!
      If it were me playing through the Zelda games again, I would play them in the order they were released. You really get to feel how Nintendo grew and experimented with each entry as they got better and better at making video games. Playing them in chronological order sounds like a fun too, but I think you'd get the actual Zelda "experience" if you play them in their release order. That's just the way I see it. I'm sure others will have their own opinion on it.

    Hey my good friend. Excellent video… but I did spot an error. You state that the Ocarina ROM used on the Wii U eShop is the original ROM. That isn’t correct. You can verify this by playing the Fire Temple. If its playing the chanting music… it’s original. If it’s missing the chanting.. you are playing the updated ROM. Unless they patched it in at a later date?

    As disappointing as the Wii-U was, I'm a weirdo and still play the U more than my Switch. The switch is great and all, but the worst thing about it imo is how little they care about preserving their history.
    The Wii-U 3DS combo is so much more fun to me because of not only great exclusives, but together they provide the only way to legally play through the greatest hits of Nintendo's entire library, even the GameCube with a simple mod. Having access to most games for all of Nintendo's best franchises on one system family is something so precious to me, something the switch is so severely lacking. With them both shutting down, Nintendo is leaving hundreds of games behind AGAIN. And we have to start back from square one, with retro games more restricted than ever before with NSO, when we had something so good just a few short years ago.

    • @NeanderMeander
      @NeanderMeander  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's very unfortunate that Nintendo is about to turn their back on the 3DS and Wii U. These digital store closures are terrible. Now the only option we'll have to legally play Nintendo's legacy games is on Switch through NSO. Which, like you said, is more restricted than it's ever been. That is, unless people like me, and I'm assuming you, have purchased these games on the Wii, 3DS, and Wii U. It's a bummer to see how little Nintendo has done with NSO. It's cool they got Golden Eye and all the games look good, but having to pay a two tiered subscription fee for them isn't ideal. If only we could have another Virtual Console. Or better yet, have those purchases transfer over to the newest system.

  • @Alicat0314
    @Alicat0314 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This is why I prefer the 3ds over the switch honestly I love the switch but it’s not as good as having the virtual console where you can buy so many GB,NES,SNES, etc games and keep them where as you have to keep paying to play any of those games on switch. The 3ds and Wii U are perfect for so many franchises. A favorite franchise that I’m excited to get a lot of games for on my 3ds before the eshop closes is Pokémon. Until the eshop closes you have the ability to play all 7 generations of Pokémon on one system only to then have your switch handy for the newer games that’s so fucking cool and to think we may not get to have a experience like that again thanks to Nintendo trying to do what every other streaming corporation is doing with constantly paying every month or year. If you have a 3ds or Wii U I strongly suggest getting as many classic games you want if you can their are franchises on these 2 consoles that lets you play pretty much all of them like this guy said. It not only is a Zelda machine but the same can go for Super Mario, Metroid,Kirby, and so many more.
