You've got to remember the pushrod Mercedes engines that were developed for Penske. They were one-off for info and used the higher displacement rules for pushrod engines that were changed after Penske was so much faster and ran away with the race. Same with the turbo Buick V6 engines.
Smokey was an epic inventor who never got his reward in life.

  • @DjJtown

Smokey built at least 3 of the shrunken Chevelle's. There are a few things you got right. 1 was that the engine was a stressed member. He took that idea with him from his Indy car days. Using that idea, you do have a little "fudge" room when it comes to cross frame mounts. There were also parts of Pontiac & Nova body panels used to shrink the car. The body was not only shifted rearward but also to one side for a static left-side bias. Also on the day of that inspection, there were 2 other "stock" Chevelle's in the paddock; just in case they were going to do that. The 2nd one you didn't mention was "just bought from a car lot" that still had window sticker on it. That was the one they were Supposed to take but decided it might have been a Plant from Smokey, and they were right. That was the one my Uncle had. The idea initially was to build stock car car bodies & chassis for new small teams to be able to compete with the already larger established NASCAR teams like the Wood Brothers, Petty Enterprises etc. I saw it once just before he got rid of it; and I know he Loved that car; and a few weeks later showed up with a brand new 427 L88 ZL1 Vette. My uncle never told me why he sold the car, to whom or where that was at, and I asked him that question every now & then til he passed away in 97 of cancer never answering it any other way but "I had a deal I couldn't pass up."

    • @scottrussell2281
      @scottrussell2281 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

The L88 and ZL1 427's were different engines, and only 3 ZL1 Corvettes were produced in 69. There around 215 L88 Vettes produced from 67-69. The ZL1 had an aluminum block and the L88 blocks were cast iron.

This is the fastest Shelby you've never heard of: It's called the Cooper Monaco King Cobra. The chassis was designed by John Cooper, and Shelby did his thing with it, tossing in a Ford 289 V8. In a way, it was a precursor to the Lola-designed GT40

did you guys actually read the book the lawyer came by for damages to someone that got bitten by the gator , he took a chunk out of a customer that was harrassing albert all the time , he used to drag him out from under the counter around by his tail all the time and stuck his findgers in his mouthwhen he had too mush to drink , one time he wasnt paying enough attentionand the gator got his fingers and after that his ankle
the tech didnt found about the ports he found out about the cam that was not stock he trew boh cams in the bucket with the rest of the engineparts and smokey did the switcheroo inside the bucket with diesel , een made a misstake and the tech ficed that for him by taking the stock cam away from him
al he used from the towtruck engine was the engineblock in the race
nascar was set upto prevent local trackowners from taking off with the money , so that was an improvement lter it became verry corrupt and as long as you had enough money the rules could be bend
the tree mayor carmanufacturers stopped racing nascar..... smokey was warned in advance .... a guy that bit him wasnt HE gotten burned bad
the transam was built for pontiac the boss wanted one with a big engine smokey and one of his bosses was against it as it wouldnt steer , they got the mission to lighten the car , it never raced\
smokey hot vapor engine wish is still clouded in mystery

In Cars 3 we got to see a character named...Smokey...he was Doc Hudson’s crew chief...who was a Hudson Hornet....It’s so cool to see that there was a reference to the real Smokey in that movie!!

But Hollywood would find a way to mess it up so badly that you'd never recognize the guy.

Smokey Yunick was a time traveler. He actually left 2020 with some brilliant ideas and just lived life to fuck, invent, and make money.
Think about it. No birthday. Got into oil when it was the highest, and looked into alternative fuels. Time traveler.

My fave Say, Smokey response concerned a father asking about a tool. This man’s teen son requested he buy this tool further his son’s goal of becoming a mechanic. However, the teen’s request was somewhat ill informed, and the Father asked Smokey for advice on what his son meant when requesting what the father politely referred to as “rodent feces”.
Smokey’s response was something to this effect:
The tool to which your son is referring is called a ratchet. I can only hope his mechanical aptitude surpasses his grammatical abilities.
    Drop mike!!!

The gators in the sewers of NYC is true. Employees of the department of public works have seen them.
