Green lynx spider would be cool as I said in my other comment, but for some other suggestions… a huntsman (probably the pantropical huntsmen out in Florida), and a fishing spider would both be really cool :)
Same here. Spiders can make me freak out and jump even when lying down! 😂 However the jumping spiders I don't mind living with due to their being so tiny. They seem cute and curious. My daughter experienced 1 wanting to battle with her marking its territory in our home. We were anxious that it not be eaten by other spiders.
I befriended a small jumping spider that lived on my window sill. I moved my desk over in front of the window and began to feed it small insects. It's been my friend for almost 9 months now. It greets me when I walk in the room now. I know it's just anticipating a treat but it's still kinda nice when noone else likes me.
@@kelcritcarroll The little jumping spider still lives on my desk by the window. I noticed really big wolf spiders on my deck. I understand if they aren't too bitey you can hold some of them. I would love to be greeted by a gang of wolf spiders on the deck when I come home. I think I'll buy a bag of crickets just for them.
great, reminds me of the jumping spider that lived in my window too, so first there was a big one pretty sure a female, it was midnight i checked my window to see a otiosus inside my window, and the next morning i saw a small one don't know how they both got in there, but i wasn't ready so i let them both go and put them on my house. and that's how i got my jumping spider ! i was so in love and did lot's of research and i eventually bought a regius she's doing good and has gone through her 3rd molt.
These guys are special for sure. First time I saw a jumping spider was on the bathroom windowsill when I was a kid. I leaned down to look at it and it stared right back, then cocked its head like a puppy. Never had a spider react like that.
I've had a jumping spider named Drizzt while I was living in Indiana. She lived rent free and had free reign of the place. She was a great listener and was fascinated with my garage.
Jumping spiders have so much personality, the people in my family always think I'm crazy when I pick one up to play with it, but they don't understand. I'll get them to understand eventually.
It's so cool how they chill out so quickly! Even though it wanted to try to leave right away, it calmed down and seemed to feel really comfortable with you.
I'm not one to kill spiders in my home. I typically catch them and release them back outside. But, a jumping spider, has permission to live in ny home, rent free. These guys are simply adorable and interesting creatures. Edit: my last place of residence, we had a humping spider that lived there and my daughter and I named it Lucus. Yes, just like the animated spider.
no actually. once i learned to love them, i became less afraid of spiders in general. there was a baby jumping spider in my room years ago and i can’t believe i was so freaked out about it before
WOW 😲, a humping spider!!! Now what does a humping spider do? No wonder humping spiders like to live in your home, it can hump all day long, leaving a mess around your home rent free😂
Jumping spiders are the exception to the rule of arachnophobia for me. They just don’t trigger it at all for whatever reason. They are adorable and amazing.
That's what sets them apart from most arthropods as a pet honestly. Arthropods just tend to stick around in one spot, meanwhile jumpers and wolf spiders actively walk around even during broad daylight. I'm a firm believer in insect and animal intelligence and I think jumping spiders specifically walk around sometimes just to have fun. Can't be all instinctual.

Jumping spiders are awesome, I used to have one that would come up on my table in my back yard, I decided to feed it a fly that had been bugging me, he/she happily jumped on the fly and took off, the next day, I see the same spider crawling across the table, it came and waited so I got up got a fly and fed it again. We share a love for these adorable little fuzzballs - but if you wanna showcase an intelligent arachnid, do a video on Black Emperor Scorpions. I've had a few, and watching them calculate hunting and trapping their prey is amazing. Plus, they glow, as I'm sure you know, in blacklight. Spend an hour or so watching one that's used to humans, and you'll see what I mean. Mine used to sit on my shoulder for hours while I played Unreal Tournament :)
Interesting! It’ll be a few years before I can get to where they range in the wild, but I had no idea they were intelligent! I’m gonna read up on them more now
@@MyWildBackyardTheir natural habitat is a bit off the beaten path, true... my experience with them wasn't necessarily in the wild - I had three, and two of them mated, so I had a LOT of babies (which I sold the survivors) but I'm sure they're even more adept in their own environment. It'd definitely be a great episode, considering the plethora of other wildlife you'd find in the West Africa region. ;)
@@master0fpuppets oh for sure! So much stuff over there. So many places like that I want to explore, trick is getting good contacts in the field and a budget to get out there! Not to worry, I’ll be figuring that out in the next couple years for sure. I’ll be sure to do more research on other scorpions too to see if I can surprise you with some more local species as well!
@@MyWildBackyard The Giant Hairy in Arizona is pretty awesome ;) I think their sting is relatively weak as well. My choice of Emperor was because their sting is minimal, compared to most others. It's a shame this wasn't 20+ years ago when my uncle was alive and still had his shipping company with an office in Africa. I'll get in touch with my cousin and see if we've still got any contacts out there, and let you know. I'd be honored to help in any way, your channel and your videos are great - and we need to get people back to nature!
I remember when I was the Wasatch Reptile Expo there was a jumping spider vendor. One of her spiders was just hanging out on her fingertip watching the crowd of humans, enjoying itself. She needed her hand free to process a transaction so you know what she did? She set the spider on top of container with a tarantula so it could say hi. It crawled around the outside and checked it out then decided maybe it would go walk on the table. She put her hand under it like "uh-uh" and it backed up and stayed obediently on the container. It understood it wasn't supposed to wander off. They are truly incredible and when raised in captivity, very sociable.
A few months ago a wild jumping spider just decided to land on my shirt. He was completely chill and crawled around on my hands and jumped a bit before I released him outside. It was such a magical encounter! I felt I had been touched by a little angel. ❤️ They way they look at your face is so cute! They really are so smart
I adore jumpers! They're such fun little creatures that are very smart. I've handled some at work to move them to safer places while coworkers freak out. They're really just as calm as you are and super curious little guys.
Don't you wish that jumping spiders were big enough to put them on a leash and take them around for walks? Well, on second thought, that might be a little scary.
I work as a field tech for a land surveying firm and these spiders are so chill, I work in the northeast so we don’t get massive ones but we do have a lot of cool little guys, one time had one on my tripod setup, then he hopped on the rod and hanged out while I walked around the site, so fun how they watch us and feel like they make eye contact with us
The way they move is what makes them so cute to me like they’re not super fast scary types they just look so peaceful moving their little heads around and looking around like bro 6:50 SO CUTE 😭😭😭
I once saw three jumping spiders work together to take down a grasshopper that none of them alone could have handled. Cooperative hunting shows some impressive levels of intelligence. They may be on the precipice of transcending the invertebrate tier of intelligence, and be moving up to the next level, if they haven't already.
I believe you, I've seen some impressive intelligence from these guys. Did you know that when they're babies the stronger ones help the weaker hunters by sharing their food with them, and this is actually a fact.
I love how they look around and analyze their environment. What fascinating animals. I wonder if they can remember faces or bodies, when you handle with one often enough that they can recognize you and interact more chill than with other humans?
I'm positively convinced that they could become familiar with individuals' faces and mannerisms. The fact that they know what a face and eyes are alone says a lot. Love your grasshopper anecdote. I would never have imagined or considered that possible without your share. Amazing! Teamwork? Wow😮
that is too freaking precious!!! I always wanted one and have a curly hair but my husband has a fear of spiders. It took about 4 months to talk him into angel and if i asked for another i know the answer would be no lol love your vids they are awesome and teach others that our world has some beautiful hidden jems for sure!!!
I think one of the most important things to convince humans of is that a creature is aware of them as another creature. Cuteness helps us calm down, but there's a lot to be said for the way our brains are wired for transpositional thinking and empathy, both as social animals and as hunters and foragers.
We have the Zebra Spider over here in England. Not particularly big. Quite small really. But terrific little beasties. Marvellous eyesight. They're like wee tanks, with a kind of turret-like cephalothorax. Moving forward, backward and side to side. And unerringly accurate when capturing prey. Like multi limbed ninjas. Thanks very much Spencer
The way they look around just shows that so much is going on with them. All animal groups are far more intelligent and complex than we give them credit for.
At my work station, had a hold jumping spider use it as a hunting ground for a few weeks. He just chilled, explored and would interact with me pretty easily
The first jumping spider you held was a male male spiders have zero coloration other than a black white and gray. Females come in variety of colors but they have mostly Brown. True fact😊
I just got to meet an adorable little jumping spider while kayaking in Alabama. It was so cute and watching it look around and process that I wasn't going to hurt it was really cool. It fell into my kayak while floating down the river, so I hung out with it for a while and then found it a leaf to live on. They are so cute!!!
i have a pet regal named Shelob that watches youtube videos with me. I don't know if she actually understands what she's looking at when staring at the monitor from the middle of my desk, but she's always riveted when i play certain channels lol
I recently moved to Montana from Wisconsin where I was used to making friends with orbweavers, and I have to say the Bold Jumpers out here are pretty marvelous.
I saw this tiny little jumping spider on the windshield of my car, and as I was trying to take a picture of it, he saw some even smaller bug and turned and tracked it and jumped and got it. It was so cool just watching it, it was like a little robot trying to exterminate something. He took the bug and then hid inside a little hole inside my windshield wiper.
Abhhhhh my favorite!!!! I can’t tell u how much I adore jumpers!! I’ve had the pleasure of keeping a few different types of them , P Otiosus, audax, but the regals are my favorite!! I had some gorgeous bright orange females !! Idc what anyone says , they each have different personalities lol 😂… I did however find most did not care for arm hair although it’s comical watching them try n navigate it !! Please !!! Please more jumping spider vids !!! There’s so many different beautiful jumpers out there to meet!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰❤️❤️❤️❤️
I used to kill spiders in my house but now I just remove to spooky ones, but I have NEVER killed a Jumping spider and never remove them. It cracks me up if I'm in bed reading and look over to see one one the wall watching me.
The Portia spider (jumping spider relative) has a primitive intelligence as well. Even having up to 30 different hunting methods it employs depending on the prey which are usually much larger spiders. Fascinating little creatures.
So glad to have found this video because a regal one who is huge (gotta be like 2 inches long) was an unexpected passenger on my trip from FL to NC. It went across my dashboard and scared the crap outta me on I95😂 I wasn’t sure what type of spider it is but I’ll leave it be knowing it’s harmless.
I love those guys. Got a jumping spider (I think) girl living on my balcony, she sometimes gets into my apartment and wanders around looking for prey. I took her on my hand couple of times, she seemed to like it. They are interestingly freaky little creatures. 🕷🕷🕷
If you wanna cure someone's arachnophobia, start with introducing them to these lil guys. They're spiders, but for some reason they're just cute, they don't seem to have any ickyness that spiders do, I think mainly it's because of their shorter legs, more centred body, general roundedness and those googly eyes. And their size really gives them more of a personality, like you see them as another animal, and not just as some sort of bug, so to speak... These ones especially have that "looking around" behaviour, they seem inquisitive, which again gives more of a personality, a sort of consciousness that we can relate and connect.
I cut/trim trees around power lines for living, so I run across jumping spiders all the time being that I work around plants and trees all day. I love these little guys. Every time I run across one they always look me up and down and are naturally curious about us humans. They always make my day a little brighter, such intelligent and interesting creatures.
I have jumpin' spiders in my apartment, I love them so much, I have shooed them away from my keyboard a couple times and only in those few interactions they have started to jump up on my sound bar to avoid my keyboard. I think they're adorable and they keep all the pesky fruit flies that occasionally come into my apartment due to my plants to a minimum. I only shoo them away from my keyboard because I'd feel awful if a little guy went under the keys which are quite spacious due to it bein' mechanical n' gettin' hurt as a result, so I'm very happy they learned to keep away from it.
I had a window filled with a brood of zebra jumpers. When I would go to watch them, a few of them would come out of the cracks to watch me back. They were do curious and cute. 😂

Jumping spiders must have been Quake fans by comparison lol. Curious if those scorpions have large eyes like most of the intelligent arachnids.
I love watching these little guys
That's such an adorable spider!
Don't you wish that jumping spiders were big enough to put them on a leash and take them around for walks?
Well, on second thought, that might be a little scary.
You should read the book “Children of Time”, it… sorta explores that concept actually
@@MyWildBackyard hmmm, I'll look for it the next time I'm at the library.
These little guys do help with my aversion to spiders.
They remind me of micro crabs 🦀
Not only are they super smart but they can remember faces like bees and wasps can!
I once saw three jumping spiders work together to take down a grasshopper that none of them alone could have handled. Cooperative hunting shows some impressive levels of intelligence. They may be on the precipice of transcending the invertebrate tier of intelligence, and be moving up to the next level, if they haven't already.
That sounds insane because I have never heard or imagined that possibility before, but I believe you. Amazing
I believe you, I've seen some impressive intelligence from these guys. Did you know that when they're babies the stronger ones help the weaker hunters by sharing their food with them, and this is actually a fact.
My favorite version is the Portia. I've never seen one in person, just in videos, but they are masters of hunting other spiders. Very intelligent.
Amazing! Teamwork? Wow😮
Oops. Meant for that grasshopper bit for a comment above. Cheers
I think there is research that suggests they can! I’ll dig more into it and see what I can find out!
i love how we all are terrified of spiders but love jumping spiders 😂💕
Loved this video! Keep up the work
that is too freaking precious!!! I always wanted one and have a curly hair but my husband has a fear of spiders. It took about 4 months to talk him into angel and if i asked for another i know the answer would be no lol love your vids they are awesome and teach others that our world has some beautiful hidden jems for sure!!!
Jumping Spiders will chase laser pointers
Honestly the way people have come 180 on jumping spiders in my lifetime (heck, the past few years!) gives me a lot of hope for our species.
I think one of the most important things to convince humans of is that a creature is aware of them as another creature. Cuteness helps us calm down, but there's a lot to be said for the way our brains are wired for transpositional thinking and empathy, both as social animals and as hunters and foragers.
That jumping spider is HUGE! holy cow..
Very cool channel! 💝I am learning so much from you. These little jumping spiders are to cute. 🥹
I absolutely adore these fuzzy cuties. One lived in and on my car for a while. 🕷🕸
They really are!
Jumping spiders are definitely the cutest spiders ❤
jumping spiders ❤you guys rock! It's a relief to see your appreciation for these amazing creatures ❤ I play with them and called weirdo 😂
I would LOVE one of these giant jumping spiders. SO CUTE!
7:26 _boing!_
😂 my favorite shot of the whole video tbh
I'm really scared of spiders, but jumping spiders are one of my absolute favorite animals
Found a Phidippus audax once... so cute and intelligent. I Wish I could have one as a pet, same size as a cat haha.
SAME!!!

i have a pet regal named Shelob that watches youtube videos with me.
Incredibly i have become friends with them. Thanks
The first jumper looks just like my old one had her 2 years ❤
These are the spiders that started my cure of arachnophobia.
I’ve kept regius and audax, though otiosus is super prevalent where I live so I might give those a shot one of these days. Such fun little critters
Oh! She jumped onto the camera lens! Did you get more out of that? Waay cool! :D
Lucas, is that you?
7:23 my heart just skipped a beat
I love those guys. Got a jumping spider (I think) girl living on my balcony, she sometimes gets into my apartment and wanders around looking for prey. I took her on my hand couple of times, she seemed to like it.
They are interestingly freaky little creatures. 🕷🕷🕷
@MyWildBackyard Love seeing you in Florida with some of our best spider man! Just leave those Green Lynx's alone.. you "will" be bitten 🤣
Loved that she jumped on the camera 😂
Aww I usually hate spiders but she’s pretty cute
