  • In this video I change my rear wheel hub on my 2015 Kia Optima. If you have a loud noise coming from your wheel, chances are its the wheel hub and you want to change that as soon as possible. Do not ignore the loud humming or loud grinding noise. If you want to purchase the same wheel hub that I used in the video, click the link below.

So i worked at the Hyundai dealership when these 2.4 were new. The engine oil problems stem from two main issues, one was they made the dipstick too long and the car was reading full when it was a qt low and ruining the top end of the engine. Two the timing chain guides were wearing out cause the originals were plastic. The recall engines beefed up alot of things but those two were the big fixes. I got one that had the recall wngine installed at about 75k miles and i got it arund 90k miles, its at 140k and runs like a champ. Loses maybe half a qt in-between oil changes but thats normal consumption for any engine.

Nice vid good view on the job. Hope I never have to do this on my car 😄 Takes some patience. Also my tip. Let somebody do an engine compression test. It is not that expensive and you will know the status of your engine and piston rings.

oil can be burned out also because the valve lifter seals! The compression test made with engine cold first without oil then it a bit of thick oil will show only if the piston rings work as should. Sometimes the crankshaft seal which is on the crank side get to leak and you can`t spot it easy. One can loose some amount without any "trace"

Fun fact: mechanics do not prefer you talk to them when they are trying to work. Not trying to be a douche bag, but keep in mind that mechanics are basically taking apart and putting together puzzles for a job, it requires focus and concentration. Which is hard when people keep talking to you.

What’s the torque specs to tighten your hub?

I guess I’ll just figure that one out on my own. What arm would it do if you say base on this make and model the hub tightening specs will range between 80 and 100 foot pounds torque. Hypothetically what if my best is right enough or too tight to cause thread breakage?

Damn.. KIA service manual recommend the whole unit to be taken out.. I just thought if there is way to "squeeze" small socket and do it in that way..
Only one thing I didn`t see in the film - how he tight the both bolts on the control arm?
Why? Because the arm must be tight on the level where the suspension is in rest. By that I mean when the car stay on all 4 wheel without any cargo the arm is almost horizontal.
When you jack it up, it goes about 30-35° down. If you tight in that position, and put it back on wheels , then you get already 35° stress on the rubber bushings. When you drive over bump or put cargo you go another 20° up or in other words you put about 50° stress and they get destroyed in no time! Cheers
