    Should mention that in NYC you are required to have a tlc licensed car as well as to drivers license. Super expensive. Could cost upwards of 5,000 for that.

    FYI Uber in NYC isn't "ride sharing"! Uber is set up as a Black Car Service. So all cars are registered car service cars and the drivers are licensed taxi drivers. This also includes tons of expensive insurance and the car must be very high quality

    • @DivergentPurpose

      I drive in Las Vegas so let me tell you why it is NOT deserving of the top 10 list. Most rides are ridiculously short. Most people want to go from one casino on the strip to another, like 1/4 mile up the road! You will spend 15-20 minutes in traffic to execute this ride. The local population is using the service but there are not enough of them to make any real money. The rideshare companies are constantly recruiting new drivers and as a result big events that you think might bring in big money..doesn't. For instance, today there are 120,000 people visiting for a convention and I drove 11 hours to make what I usually make in 9. Now, the rideshare companies don't exactly share their numbers with me but, you do the math. I've considered leaving more than once.

      No guarantee. I looked at this. i would need 100 rides a week in my city. I could do 100 rides in my 4 12 hour shifts UNLESS riders are going somewhere. Longer rides are more money and more time. I have done anywhere from 13 to 35 rides in a 12 hour shift. Am I doing $20 rides or $3 rides ? Is it slow or is it busy ? If I am doing $3 rides all night yeah I will hit 25 rides a night. But like for instance this past Thurs I made my same money in my same 12 hours in just 19 rides. Shift over. And I did not do 25 rides and if I do not hit the difference over the next 3 nights, now I have to pay for the car anyway. Which is why i just lease a car from someone who leases cars to drivers and I split it with another driver and it costs me $140 a week for my shifts and $10 more if I want to drive an extra shift and pick it up at the other drivers house on his 3.5 days a week it sleeps in his driveway. For me it was not worth the hassle of each week not knowing where I would be on that payment until the end of each work week. And your Uber rides do not count towards your Lyft lease. . If I were just drivjng for Lyft if I get 15 rides in a 12 hour shift I am lucky but it is not getting me enough rides without working 2 more 12's which I prefer as an option not a must do.

    Out here in the Sf Bay Area is $16 to $30 but on the flip side California is #1 for the worst drivers. Theres always accidents, close collision's, and pot holes that are wide as a sink hole. You can barely park anywhere! The Surge and Prime Time runs like clock work but you have to be careful every section you turn.

Im in Los Angeles/Orange County area of California and its pretty good money driving here. but we get traffic, accidents and crazy ass drivers as well.

    In NYC, to do Uber, Lyft etc. You have to become a licensed taxi driver (classes, drug & medical test, criminal & background checks: cost up to $1000.) If you want to drive your own car it will cost you about $2,300 to convert it into a taxi vehicle (includes vehicle inspection, taxi plates & commercial vehicle insurance with a monthly average of about $500 a month) you can rent a car for about $400 a month (Toyota Camry) or $800 a month for (Suburban) once on the road you have to deal with extensive traffic, speed & redlight cameras almost everywhere and NYC's own taxi police. Drivers can make up to $1500 a week but the expenses are heavy to start and maintain.

    I don't get the update you posted about Austin, TX on here in your comments above. In May 2016, Uber and Lyft both left Austin due to the heavy handed government regulation requiring drivers to be fingerprinted and pay fees for background checks. On May 29th, 2017, Governor Abbott signed H.B. 100 which stripped the authority of individual cities to impose regulations on drivers and rideshare companies, instead assigning those tasks to a statewide standard that falls in line with the driving history and background checks that both companies already do. As of noon, May 29, 2017, both companies are back in Austin in full effect.

      The smaller players in the Rideshare industry are in Austin. Fasten, Tride and other similar companies are in the Austin Market. You are correct on licensing and insurance are upfront costs. For full commercial insurance you can figure about $5k annually and for most other markets a Rideshare policy is around $1,500 annually. Like starting any other business you will have fixed costs and for all Rideshare drivers Insurance is one of those. In the overall picture Insurance and Licensing are some of your lower costs on the P & L.

    I took a Lyft in Washington DC and the driver told me in a good week he can make $2000! I'm sure Uber probably performs as good as if not better. I'm seriously thinking about moving there after that. However I question because it seems finding an affordable place to live is difficult. I'm sure there are other good places but I have family on the East Coast, I want to be closer to and I live in Texas and can't stand this place, Texas is good for white, Christian, conservatives. 1 out of 3 doesn't cut it.

      I’ve been to Texas and it didn’t flatter me to well either. It was March and the weather was the same as Thailand 90% humid and 98 degrees. It rained and thundered the whole week I was there and when we did go to a bar there were almost no pretty girls. They say everything’s bigger in Texas... I didn’t realize that included the ladies too

      I live in Washington DC area also. That's where I do Uber. The driver that told you he's making $2,000 a week has got to be full of crap unless he's doing the Uber black. I do uberX shun most full ride. And normal week this time of year now is around $1,000.

    • @SyphusBatterus
      @SyphusBatterus 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do a little research if I was you for you come up there a thousand dollars for just room and board is not going to cut it you going to spend a lot more than that on the apartment in this area. Blushington DC area is very expensive area to live in you won't be able to afford to live in Washington DC itself. You'll be living in either Virginia or Maryland I would pick Virginia over Marilyn because Marilyn has terrible gun laws. And the taxes or more in Maryland they are in Virginia. Oh and by the way the top 5 places to drive for Uber. Money-wise. Is New York City is number one. San Francisco is number two. Los Angeles is number 3. Chicago is number 4. In Washington DC is number five. You will have to hustle a lot to make that money and DC. You'll be working 10-hour shifts at the very least.

    Boston shouldn’t even crack the top 20 list. Insurance is outrageously expensive. As is the cost of living. You spend 30 minutes taking someone 4 miles, in congested traffic, for a whopping $10. The only way to make any decent money is to dedicate yourself, and your vehicle, to the intoxicated Friday and Saturday night bar crowd.

I have been in this business in Phoenix for 23 years and now i do Uber and Lyft because it is the game right now. . She has been driving Uber Lyft in Seattle for less than a year. We make the same money for the same time. Consistently. My friend in NYc makes $150 more than I do in 2/3 the hours but rent in NY is at least 4x times what it is here.

      It's my understanding you can with Lyft but to do Uber you would have to sign up to drive in that state. I recently took a very long road trip (TX to NYC and points in between) and a few times for hits and shiggles turned on my Uber app it told me I wasn't authorized to drive in whatever was the nearest large city, but Lyft let me go online. I didn't get any pings but I wasn't trying to, I was just satisfying my curiousity.

LA has ups and downs but for the most part its pretty expensive to live there. you have to pay for parking all the time, the traffic is legendary! so while you can make some money the costs of living are probably too high to make it that great of a city to drive in. i think Orange County is better than Los Angeles i drive both areas a lot

    Uber is a billion dollars company. instead of hubs in each state. UBER needs build Uber mechanic shops to keep up maintenance on driver member car's. Also Atlanta is a very hilly state, your brakes are worn very fast there. Also a problem driving around in the winter, because the state is not prepared for snow. I don't care how nice your are to customers in Atlanta, water, candy, clean car etc. They just don't tip there. Cost of living in Atlanta is very high. A one bedroom apartment in a nice area will cost you from $700.00-$1,000 a month with additional surge charge for water bill attached extra to your rent. Rent less than $700.00 a month place you in areas that may have a higher crime rate or just not worth the rent they ask for.

    • @IamPowerSurgeOfficial
      @IamPowerSurgeOfficial  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Atlanta is not hilly. Northern Atlanta maybeand we rarely get snow and ice. I've lived here all my life and from my experience as an Uber driver, I get lots of tips. I have phone chargers, cool water, gum, mints and always show my customers respect and hospitality.

    • @fredburton3769
      @fredburton3769 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I average $125+ per day in Atlanta. I work local runs toward the airport most days and pick up good rides and most always get tips on long runs. It's all how you work the system--the earlier you start the busier you'll be.

  • @LeonAllanDavis

    A very misleading video...
    Why?
    It's like asking the question, "which is the best city to play poker?"
    The "best city" has zero to do with your skill at playing poker.
    When you play poker, you're taking the other player's money. You have to be better than everyone else.
    When you drive a rideshare, you're taking the other driver's business. You have to be a better driver than all the other drivers.
    If you're a good poker player you can make just as much money in Bumfuck, Montana as you can in Las Vegas.
    Same thing with driving...

However the promotions are almost impossible to get unless your savvy because to get a bonus you need to pick up a certain amount of people from a huge event like EDC which has traffic for hours so you can't complete a high volume of rides cuz your sitting in traffic
