  • Grafting Fig Trees - Multiple Grafting into the same tree - You don't have much space in your backyard? Graft several varieties and you can enjoy different figs from the same tree for several months. Currently, the tree has 10 fig varieties grafted and i plant to add a couple more, next year.
    It also has a caprifig to help pollinize the 2 Smyrna varieties (non parthenocarpic) it has, if i can establish a fig wasp colony - see my video on "Fig pollination" to know more).
    5 of the 10 grafted varieties already started production. The other 5 where grafted this year (2017).
    The grafting techniques used where Chip-Budding and Whip and Tongue (videos available on how to execute these 2 techniques on my channel).

    Hi, Really nice. I must to say that all your videos are very educative, clean, precious. Until you graft every cut is clean and you take good care. Hat down.. My family also have several fig trees in area of Dalmatia. Unfortunately we have not so much different variety. I would like that you are closer so that I can take some scions out of you.
    Best regards

      Hi. I'm concentrating on selecting the best varieties i can to plant on a new fig orchard i am planning. After that selection process, in the future, when things slow down a bit, i might be able to concentrate on spreading some of those varieties. Thanks for the support.

    First, thank you for teaching the art of grafting. Could not have done it without all those videos i watched over and over. Question please.
    Where can i get one of those bird scarers?

    • @JSacadura
      @JSacadura  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment, Robert. I am glad the videos helped in some way. i make my own bird scarers with cardboard, wire and tape. Its not that difficult. I might make a video about it, if you think it might help.

    Just came across this video about your grafts and am wondering what is that blue tub-like thing doing on a branch above on the left, at around 2: 08-minute mark? Is that some setup for airlayering?

    • @JSacadura
      @JSacadura  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's an airlayer for the variety Inchário Preto. It's am ice cream container like the one i am using in this video - th-cam.com/video/1OvVjHC2JV0/w-d-xo.html and the method used is the same. When i received the variety i only get one cutting and i decided to graft the buds in the cuttings, instead of rooting it. So, i only had 3 well developed grafts but no isolated plant. The bud i grafted on the left of the tree produced 3 branches, so i decided to airlayer the branch in the middle.

    unbelievable performance. So inspiring!. What type of white marker are you using? does it stay visible for almost a year? I would very much like to use it myself if I know the brand. Thanks again for the inspiration

    • @JSacadura
      @JSacadura  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those white markers are from Edding (a German company) - www.edding.com/products/edding-8055-outdoor-marker/ . I usually use the 8055, that is UV and weather resistant and, usually, stays on for a year - after that is better to use an aluminium tag - but sometimes i can only find the 751 or the 750 and these also do a good job but are less sun resistant.
      This brand is available in Europe. If you are located in the USA or elsewhere, you probably won't find them locally. Check this discussion - growingfruit.org/t/rooting-fig-cuttings-the-method-im-using-video/16111/16 - in some middle messages, some alternative brands, available in the USA, are discussed.

      Hola tino. Feliz Año Nuevo. Si el tiempo ya va calentito por ahí ya se puede empezar a hacer esquejes y incluso injertar, si las higueras todavía tienen hojas y la savia ya se mueve. Si no, para injertar yo esperaría por Febrero.

      Hola Toni. Tengo decenas de variedades portuguesas C8que he recolectado directamente o que he intercambiado con otros entusiastas de higueras) en mi colección pero la mayoría todavía no ha producido. Por eso, aún es temprano para producir un listado de las mejores. Los viveros portugueses (como Castromil y Albar) tienen algunas de las más conocidas como la Lampa Preta (una de las mejores brevas), Moscatel Preto, Moscatel Branco (Pingo de Mel), Bêbera Branca e Violeta son también conocidas por su calidad pero no todas se comercializan.

      You have to find the fig varieties that need less heat. Prefer the ones that ripe early as they are your best bet. Check Ourfigs forum for lots of information on fig varieties that will ripen in your zone.
