    If it had not been for my daughter whom I was visiting about 2 or 3 years after S1 had aired, I would not have continued past that opening sequence, saying to her,"Yeah, nah not interested in a zombie series." She replied smugly, "Just watch this 1st episode, then decide." So not only did I end up watching GoT multiple times, I rushed out and bought all the books which I continue to re-read to this day😉

      It definitely felt like a zombie series in that opening sequence, but glad we both stuck with it!

    Some tips & words of advice..
    The opening changes w each episode.. it is a map & it shows, roughly, where each episode is going to take place..
    Use captions! It makes a GIANT difference! It helps w names & places SO much!
    Do. Not. Google. ANYTHING.. Consider getting comment moderators.. some people like to spoil for fun..
    It will take some time to get all the names & places & the who hates who & who doesn’t.. it will come.. I promise.
    No matter what you heard about how it ended, it’s still worth it..
    Welcome sweet summer child.. buckle up.

    The dead guy in Kings Landing was Jon Aaron. He was The Hand to the King. The King is Robert Barratheon. Robert traveled a month to go ask his old friend Ned Stark to be the new Hand to the King. Robert thinks Jon Aaron died of natural causes. Ned and Catherine got a letter from Cat's sister (Jon Aaron's wife) that he was poisoned and did not die of natural causes. Ned is reluctantly accepting the position because he feels he has no choice.

    Just a tip: You should change the playlist settings so that new videos are added to the bottom so people can watch in order without having to start from the bottom and manually click each video going up. Right now it's not a big deal, but when there are 50 videos in the playlist, it could turn people off watching.
    Welcome to the GOT reactor world. Hope you enjoy!

    Yay! It will be fun to see you go through this Epic Show.
    Regarding the guy who got beheaded: He took a sworn oath to never leave the Nights Watch and to suffer death if he breaks his oath.
    Oathes mean everything.
    Even in our recent past, men were shot or hung for deserting their military post.
    The known punishment is death.
    Ned wanted Bran to get used to it because he might rule the North one day or rule with his brother; they have to be used to doing things that must be done, good & awful.
    Re: the puppies would have starved to death or been predated on by other animals without their mother so Ned said better a quick death. It was a merciful decision.
    Jon saved them with his suggestion.

    The medieval hygiene thing is actually something of a myth. While bathing practices differed slightly from modern times, most peoples (noble and common alike) bathed regularly. Some accounts from Danish and Saxon historians actually state bathing was a daily occurrence. Some groups even employed pastes made from ash as a primitive soap with antiseptic properties.
    Sometimes flowers and oils were also used to improve odor, much like scented shampoos today. The concept of smelly peasants typically comes from the end of the medieval period when the wealth gap started to vanish. Some places instituted laws around bathing as a means to divide rich and poor (since the poor typically couldn't buy things like perfumes).

    • @EmmyReacts
      @EmmyReacts  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's super interesting!

    • @apulrang
      @apulrang ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Another factor adding to the idea of poor hygiene in Medieval times is the idea that Christians in that era associated bathing with Ancient Greece and Rome, specifically in the times before Christianity. So they associated bathing with "pagan" lifestyles and "sins" like nakedness, luxury, vanity, homosexuality, etc. So the idea is that for awhile at least, regular bathing was viewed by European Christians as decedent and not sufficiently Christian. I'm not sure, but it's possible this ideological explanation might be exaggerated or even untrue. But it has certainly been a common idea about the Middle Ages for a long time.

    If you like strong female characters GoT has a bunch of them! 😂 The relationship between Dany and her brother Viserys was super weird when I first watch. Targaryen's keep it in the family to keep their bloodline pure like the ancient Egyptians did. Queen Cersei and her brother are something else though! 😂 Can't wait to see the rest of your journey into GoT! It's a rollercoaster and we all miss it.

    I had a similar experience w/GOT. I watched (I think) up to Season 4 back when the last season was airing and I was on my phone or just not paying attention 90% of the time, so I refused to go forward because I didn't know what was going on. A few years later, I started it all over again and remembered nothing beyond character names and like 2 major events. Once I actually started paying attention, it became my favorite show of all time (and now the book series is my favorite media of all time).
    I'm excited to watch your journey.
    PLEASE don't stop asking questions aloud. Most of us had the same questions, and (whether the question is 'dumb' or not) it lets your audience know what's going through your head scene by scene.

    Every piece of dialogue matters. Most of the questions you raised (most, not all) had been answered previously to you asking. I know it's a lot to wrap your head around, but if you ever re-watch you will understand much more how important the dialogue is. Many, many "Ah-ha!" moments.

    History & Lore is another way to get more insight and info that you don't get in the series. There's no copy write, so no editing needed. It's told from the different perspectives of characters throughout the series. Usually watched after each season

    OK Emmy, a new GOT reactor. I am a very big GOT fan and watching your first episode I figure you are a very good reactor and a sweet summer child, you will soon learn what that is. I read some of the comments and there are some good suggestions, one I will say is get a map or chart of the world of GOT. You don't have to look at it each time a new location is mentioned but it will help you become familiar with the world. You wondered about the White Walkers, you briefly saw one in the opening sequence. They are creatures of the north, humanoid in appearance and their numbers are not very large, Tomorrow I will watch episode 2 and catch up tp where you are. I am happy to join you on your journey.

    after having watched GoT an absurd amount of time, couple rewatches on my own, and watched pretty much every reaction of it on yt, I can't get over how weird of a choice it was to have the night's watch/ white walkers scene as an introduction to the show/world, that's like your frontpage, your presentation, your resume, your pilot within the pilot, and that quickly leads to SO MANY false expectations/misunderstandings etc for new viewers, people think many things, is it a horror show? is it a zombies show? I heard this was a medieval show, wtf is going on?, then to make matters worse it transitions to not really touch the topic in detail for an entire season, so you are left wondering what was the point of the first 10mins of episode 1 for? fault taste in your mouth.... and by the time what you saw matters later on in the seasons you already forgot the details of what you saw, that was the main gate of the wall, they were rangers and tracking wildings, no new viewers is going to remember those details by the time the topic is relevant again by s2 so it was all in all a complete waste of a scene at the moment of most highlights of a debut, a forever stain in the show, that only serves the purpose as a context of why that guy is going to be beheaded minutes later and nothing else.

    • @EmmyReacts
      @EmmyReacts  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that it was definitely an interesting/odd choice to have the white walkers be the opening scene when we don't learn more about them for so long in the first season, but now that I understand them more it makes a little sense at least!

  • @TryingToWakeUp-qb7iu
    @TryingToWakeUp-qb7iu ปีที่แล้ว

    White walkers mean nothing. The showrunners had no idea what to do with them once they ran out of source material, so they became a joke and got wiped out with one stab.
