    I am honored to be half Cambodian and speak the language. I just visited Cambodia in February and I used the words: Magical Realism. Cambodia is so magical. It is so real. The way of life is so genuine especially because of the strong multi-generational household structure. Living in America, the way of life and quality of life isn''t as enriching as Cambodia. But my parents moved us to the U.S when I was three years old for opportunities. That was a great move. I hope to move to Cambodia one day. Thank you for your story Pat. It's been great subscribing to you and seeing all the exasperated faces asking how you speak Khmer so well.

I'll be making my move from the UK to PP in October, if I can take just an ounce of what you have taught me and the respect you give the Khmer people and your adoptive nation then you have put me in good stead. Many thanks my friend, I have no doubt everything will work out for you and your lovely family.

    I may not have been subscribed for long. But I've been watching these videos for around 5 years now. Your videos inspired me to move to Cambodia from 2017 to 2019. I came home to visit family in Australia, just before the covid lock down. Then got stuck here for 2 years because our covid lockdowns were some of the strictest in the world. For the last 12 months I've been trying to tie up all my loose ends here so I can move back to Cambodia, possibly(hopefully) basically permanently. As I intend to take enough money with me this time to buy a house. I watch your videos every day as a reminder to myself that the sacrifices I'm making here have a purpose and it will be worth it in the end. I'm really sad to see you're leaving, as that will be a small part of my daily motivation to move back there gone too

    Sad to hear, but you gotta do what you gotta do. I am raising my half Cambodian son in Australia now. He was born in Siem Reap but he and I returned to my home country when he was 3 and a half and we've been here ever since. Huge parts of me long for Cambodia again but here is where we need to be right now. We live a lush life in the rainforest, with a tight community around us and nature all around. Good luck to you and your family on moving back to the US. I understand how much it is for a family to have children. As they feel they may want them to have a better educations and livelihood, etc. best of luck! I hope to see more of your videos in the near future as well.. btw you have a beautiful family, sister Mey is wise and your daughter Ava is such a beautiful and precious daughter! Its nice to raise your child in America or Cambodia, but just be sure to understand the situation that the child is going through having to move around, losing friends, and making new friends. Moving around is nice until the age they become aware that constantly having to re-associate with new children her age is tiring. The child will eventually grew to be attached to either one.

    I have a similar situation as you and your wife and family. My wife is from cambodia, and we have a 2 year old son. We live in the USA here in Florida. We visit Cambodia just about every year. But one big difference from our situation and your families is that I would rather raise my son in Cambodia than the USA right now. It had been getting so crazy here the last several years. To be honest it scares me now. The things that have been going on here just dont exist over there. I have a lot of nieces and nephews that live in Cambodia. They are all so smart. The schools there seem to be great from what I can tell. They all speak english and Khmer. And their english sounds like they grew up in the USA. So yeah, If I could find a way to move there, and live . I would do it in a heartbeat. Its not all bad here. THere are definitely pros and con to consider when raising a family Here vs Cambodia. And I get it. But anyway thanks for the all the great Cambodian videos, I have really appreciated them. Good luck to you and your family! I hope you guys find everything you are looking for. Take care! If you find yourself in central Florida. Hit me up.

      Cambodia certainly give a lot of privilege to foreigner even more so than our own local people.
      Foreigner can get pass many mistakes, but local people will surly got caught and punish for their misbehaving and shaming from other.
      So yes, you make the right choice by raising your kid in Cambodia.
      As a foreigner, you will have many opportunities and freedom even more so than in America.
      But the corruption in Cambodia is also bad, but if you don't mind paying a bit extra of every document file like car tax and stuff, then you are fine.

    Your situation exactly mirrors my own. If it was just me and my wife, I would live in Cambodia without a thought. Just like you we have children, two boys who are now 5 and 6, and regardless of anything else their lives are safer and their futures are more secure here in Australia. I can tell you one thing though, your kids will entirely adopt the values of the country they are raised in, regardless of what you want. The pull of their peers will trump any influence that you can have. My two sons can understand their Mum when she abuses them in khmai, which is the most common times she resorts to her own language, indeed they can understand a great deal of spoken khmai, but there is no chance they will ever read or write in their mother's tongue. They were both born in Cambodia and are in fact jun jeat khmai m'roy pheak roy. Now they are all Australians too. Life is full of choices, most are not easy to make, and I can't be certain that I have made the right one, just the best one that I could make. I am sad for the lost opportunity to interact with the Khmai culture, life is so much more interesting over there for me. So many different problems to solve, interacting with the authorities presents unique set of differences, but there you go. Such is life.

      Hey Tony, very interesting. I moved to the States at the age of 3. My mom was very strict that I learned Khmer. My American dad really pushed her to really push me. Everyday when I got back from school I would also have an hour of Khmer lesson where I learned to read and write. But my two other cousins who were born here fit exactly the description of what you’re saying. They can understand some but can’t speak. Very Americanized

    • @tonycook7679
      @tonycook7679 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@rosgyallay9529 well done to have achieved that level of success in Khmai. Sadly I don't see this happening with my sons. I have a friend who has lived in Cambodia for the last 30 years. His children, all 3 of them, can understand Khmai but don't speak a single word. He hired a housekeeper who didn't speak English to expose them to more Khmai. Because he only spoke Khmai with her he never discovered, until I told him, that she ended up learning English really well and his kids never were made to answer her. The best laid plans don't always work.

    I may have missed this in one of your previous videos, and I hope it's not rude to ask. But what was your main source of income in Cambodia? I remember in one video you bought a shop, was that profitable? Were you teaching English on the side?

    • @CamboVlogs
      @CamboVlogs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, yes teaching English. The shop wasn't bought we rent it and my wife still runs the salon. We bought a condo so maybe you were confused with that.

    My husband wants to raise our kids @ Srok khmer. He said the same thing about kids growing up at western culture. Now the education seem to head downhill as well. Parents and teachers can't even lecture young one. Preteens wear inappropriate clothing to school and have bf. And Racism against Asian and half asian are on the rise especially since Covid. I'm Cambodian so I know raising kids Srok khmer is not ideal consider health care, education, employment....etc. It's so hard for us to decide since we have 3 children. One thing for sure Asia is the future. Good luck for your new journey!

      For healthcare, Cambodia right now is trying to reform their healthcare system to meet international standards. I'm a Khmerican too and just visited Cambodia last year for the first time. I love it. I'm going back and living there forever. Sihanoukeville is my spot

      @@mrs.v5962 Sihanoukeville looks like a first world city compare to many American cities here. The beach, food, cheap condos, people, etc. I don't know what am doing here to be honest. Also, I didn't gain my knowledge here. I have to self taught myself and thanks to social media.

It reminded me of Nha Trang , VN. It doesn't look like SHV I used to know. I guess many prefer big city vibe. oh I'm from Toronto by the way.

    Your daughter she's adorable super duper cute! 🥰 My hub is Mexican yes it's up to our daughter as grow... But to raise them and have balance between the 2 cultures is a great answered. I couldn't get our daughter to speak 2 languages when she was little plus she was learning English at school. Being said it make it all to difficult for her and causes confusion. Currently our daughter speak English only she know some Spanish and few Khmer words and that is it lol. However our daughter is well a ware of Khmer culture and traditions. Something i taught her since she was little. I will never ever not teach her that It's important for her to know her roots and and part of who she is.
