Hello B.J. Nice to see the bike being brought along in a sympathetic manner. Great video covering many facets of a rolling restoration. I hope it inspires others to have a try at this themselves. I must admit I had to re-watch the seal going into the fork,…the light shining on the seal made it appear to be upside down! I knew that would not be the case, so it was a weird illusion! Thank you! Fork seals can absolutely be deceiving and take some studying to make sure they are the right way up but yes these are in correct. Lots more on this bike to come as I enjoy it
In the UK Sealey sell some extra long punches (presume a USA supplier sells an equivalent). Well worth it to greatly reduce the chances of belting your fingers when knocking steering head bearings out, etc. Looking good and a nice pace. Wish I didn’t get easily distracted.
Very cool! Honda used to make a factory dual front disc conversion, likely unobtanium in this day and age. Tapered roller steering head bearings make a huge difference too. Great tip on using zipties to secure the tube inside the tire and then mounting it! Sure beats heck out of risking pinching a tube(thinking all of us have been there & done that with our bikes). 3 master links? Someone pieced together a drive chain for that bike for sure. I'd invest in a fresh drive chain. Glad to see this SOHC 750 Honda getting pressed back into service, great video! Thanks man!
Thanks Mark! I plan to eventually do a dual disc up front. I have the matching rotor and caliper mount already but need a caliper and likely a goldwing master. That will come in time. The biggest benefit to the zip ties is that you are only sliding essentially one bead over the rim instead of two. It is so much faster!
Sweet jams man! I recently started fixin up my girlfriend's bike I got her. 82 CM450A She cant do a clutch and originally picked it up for 300. Ran through the carbs then synced and tank. Inside the tank was flawless, and then electrical and brakes and tires. Putting a new gear shift arm in and a new ignition switch in it to get it back to road worthyness lol

Thanks for the great video. I used to own a 1977 CB750 about twenty years ago. Seeing your bike brings back many memories. Keep up the great work. How is the CBX project coming along?
Thanks Brad! The CBX has not made any progress since my last update unfortunately. With the new parts venture starting up that has required a ton of my time to shift my business around so the cbx has just sat idle. The next move is still to vapor hone the cases and begin reassembling the engine.
As always, great informative content BJ! I too love the black rims and am intrigued by the ziptie method. I'm at that point on my Triumph resto and will probably go the same route, probably with some Duro 307 knobbies. Oh, don't throw out those cocktail shakers if you replace them...they'll be "period correct" on my Triumph!
Nice job man I’m keen on the black wheels these old cb750s r all over the place they make a nice cafe not sure how many Honda made but they made em prettty durable My old Kawasaki z1000 clutch cable broke at around midnight on a motorway a kind ol chap picked me up on one was showing about 60000miles but I’m guessing it was more ran like a top I’m also watching tomboy a bit as she’s building her one into cafe 👍

Great video 🤗. Couple questions?? I changed out the std ball bearings in my 85 CB650SC to TRBs. (This was a long time ago, so bear with me). I found I couldn’t get the tension on the bearings where they were just right. Too tight, and the bike would weave going down the highway, too loose, and, well you’d feel the slight slop in the triple clamp using the front brakes. I switched back to std ball bearing (new races and new ball bearings of course). I had that mc a long time, and I thought I switched back to TRBs, but I can’t remember, BUT, in your experience, have you ever noticed a “weave” induced but over tightening the triple clamp bearings? I’m not saying you over tighten the new TRBs, but was curious if you’ve had any weave/tracking issues using TRBs and/or having them too tight? Anyways, great trick with the tie straps. Heard about it, but Never seen it done👍 Great job 🤗😎👍
Hmm I can't say I've ever had trouble getting TRB set up just right. I wonder if there was something bent or slightly misaligned on the 650 that was causing that. It can be tricky to find that balance and I'm sure ill have to go back to adjust these but I can get it in the ballpark.
Lovely bike and I agree with your view on the wheels painted black to protect them for the future. Who was playing the music from around 14:00 onwards?

@@BrickHouseBuilds Wow. No excuse. Anyways, you’re taking the right path with the CB. It’s an iconic motorcycle and will always hold its value. When I rode my friend’s 1970 cb750, it was the first time I ever rode one. It felt like I was riding an important piece of history.
What are you spraying for the zip tie method? Soapy water or the PB blast chain lube? Or silicone lube, I couldn't really tell lol. Is that just for wheels with an inner tube or is this great for tubeless as well? I image it's great for both, I need to do my own tires some time, local shop only charges $50 if the wheels are off the hike though.
Alright now. There is more information here. Did you actually wipe each spoke after painting the rims? I"m looking forward to try that o so brilliant zip tie technique on some new tires. The rear brake redo looks pretty normal. But not gonna lie. B.J. ~ your work with a toothbrush and cleaning up metal surfaces is way way over the top. I think I'm going to kick the snowblowers off the motorcycle lift and just begin with a toothbrush. Thank you again for all of this. Just great! 〰✨👍✨〰
Hey BJ - who is you preferred vendor for CB750 carb rebuild kits? Starting my first CB750 "refreshtoration" this week and it'll be one of the first jobs to tackle. Thx!
Refreshtoration is a term I'm now stealing lol. I typically just buy the rubber pieces and gaskets as I clean the original brass. I know dime city cycles, 4into1, and randakkas all sell carb kits for the bikes that include the brass but always inspect carefully to make sure all the parts are correct
That was smart, putting the top end of the rubber boot on the ear before sliding the fork in. It seems obvious, but that's the first time I've seen someone do it that way. Did you tape off the spokes when you painted the rims... and what kind of paint did you use?
Thank ya Dave! Are you talking about the entire headlight mounting bracket and fork boot? I've actually never looked at how anyone else does the job so this is just how I went about it. Not sure if its unconventional or not. For the paint I used an SEM primer and trim black. I didn't mask and simply went back and wiped the overspray from the spokes after I was done. I figured both methods were equal in time and materials.
