I love this interview! SCRABBLE as a game show. Don't get me started. OBSESSED. Those sound effects. The tiles? The clues. Making a beloved board game come to life? and Chuck of course. Excellence! Truly an "if you know, you know" situation. Game show hosts of this era were real showbiz journeymen!
The song was a bit retro even for the '80s. Love it. The pink and blue set with the grid. Perfection. And now I can delve into biography of announcer and DJ Charlie Tuna online! 🎉
Chuck was a good man. I met him once in Westwood Village near UCLA. I said hello as he passed me by on the sidewalk when he stopped, returning my greeting shaking my hand. Godspeed Mr. Woolrey🙏😔
What he said about "Love Connection" participants not being actors was not exactly true. Aspiring actors go on game shows as contestants so they can add those experiences to their résumés. I knew two people personally who did that. One, my best friend, was actually on the first season of "Love Connection" WHILE she had a steady beau and had no interest in going out to dinner with the guy who selected her. Plus, one time I was working as a background dancer for a music video that experienced hours of filming delay because the actress playing the female lead in the video storyline was occupied filming a game show that ran late, and later, and later, and later, and later .... We had makeup and costuming calls starting around noon to accomodate her estimated availability, but several of us ended up having to be re-done because of the summer heat in the un-air-conditioned sound stage. We didn't start filming a thing until after it was dark out. 😄
I’m 33 and I remember when Chuck hosted Greed, that game show that ran on FOX 1999-2000. Back when Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and the Weakest Link were also in prime time on network television.
I still remember one airing of Scrabble with Chuck Woolery in which the contestant was playing for a lot of money toward the end of the show, trying to guess the final word with a couple of seconds left on the clock. The word was seven letters, and the clue was "It's good clean fun." Before the clock counted down to zero, he hit his plunger and guessed "Brothel." Woolery, in his own style of sense of humor, told the contestant that they need to have a talk. It was so funny. Woolery was one of the best.
One of my favorites from scrabble, thus contestant was really struggling in the sprint round took him 87 seconds (average is probably 30-35 seconds). Chuck was hamming it up so much. At one point the contestant had *UDENESS with the clue "there's no excuse for it" he guessed "nudeness". To which Chuck said "well occasionally there's an excuse for nudeness..." 😂

Chuck always seemed the most dickish of all the swarmy, waste-of-skin game-show hosts. Turns out scripting, makeup and lighting were unable to cover up a thing in his case.
Hard to say what these guys are like in real life. We know he leaned right, as became apparent in the latter half of his life. He was absolutely fantastic on Love Connection.
I always liked this guy he had a very welcoming and friendly personality, rest in peace Chuck.
I couldn't believe hearing that Chuck Woolery died. He was such a cool and happy person. RIP Chuck.
Chuck really held his own against Letterman, which wasn't easy. Chuck was a great talent.
Easy to forget how big of a show Love Connection was at the time. Chuck's easy going, suave demeanor was the perfect fit for that show. RIP.
Chuck was memorable to me. Always one of my favorite hosts.
Thanks for honoring Chuck Woolery. RIP
Shame I remember him Greed at the Beginning of the New Millennium Competing with Millionaire! Sadly it never took off!
RIP Chuck, I watched ‘The Love Connection’ for years
Shocking that Paul didn't know Chuck's song. he knew everything!

0:15 "Riding the Crest of an Undertow" 🤣 For my money, any Roger Miller reference deserves a clickable timestamp
I had closed captions on. It interpreted that phrase as "riding the crust of the undertoe." I like to think Roger would be amused.
R.I.P. Chuck--I'm old enough to remember when you hosted the Wheel pre-Sajak.
Another TV icon gone, nice to see this clip of Chuck, thanks!

R. I. P. Chuck Woolery! Love Connection was amazing! You are missed!
geez, what´s wrong with these people?
I liked Chuck when he would appear on Tattletales with his then wife, the lovely Joann Pflug. He seemed not to take the whole thing too serious.
Chuck was the best. Hopefully we will see him in Heaven in “2 and 2”! He was the coolest suave host on Love Connection

Dave probably was annoyed by him, but glad you all shared this.
respectfully, I disagree. I thought Chuck was perfectly delightful, funny, playful, and sincerely complimentary of Dave and his show
yeah, not sure where you get that idea. they seemed to get along pretty well.
😢RIP Chuck 😔😢😇😇
the consummate professional, Woolery was a great guy and someone you'd always see on television growing up
There was a mild tension to this interview.
I wonder if Chuck’s heirs took their inheritance on account or a gift certificate?
I always liked Chuck !😊
great dry sense of humour
I've noticed that Dave gets snarky with guests if they are Republicans. Dave is a crazy dem.
RIP Chuck.
And now, a search for the Dabney Coleman interview
He will always be the host of Wheel of Fortune for me. Never cared for the new guy that much.
Then you're really not going to like the new, new guy.

Weird vibe from that.
And I can't decide who is most responsible for that.

Also, now I want to see the Dabney Coleman segment they were talking about.
