One of the reasons why I like League despite it having the worst community player and lore wise. Is the fact that ut has one of the most beautiful art style and it keeps getting better. Ok, so you're now telling me, the summoners rift which brings me joy for my teenage days was actually firstly created by you, right? Well, I would say, thank you so much for your hard work and creation, LOL change me a lot and it really means a lot to me. And I love listening to your stories, they are so cool and inspire me a lot! Developing games is always being a great thing.
@@JaggedCanvas tbh league help me learn how to do critical thinking, dealing with toxicity, pressure, what it is to be a team player. Was there other competitive game can do the same? probably yes. But at least i gain something valuable from it and had fun with my friend.
dude i keep saying Trent is a legend in the gaming industry and no one knows how he changed the look of games we all fell in love with. I think there is this problem that character designers and artists have so much more fame than artist for environments. I mean, trent has done art for Diablo 3, League, Overwatch, Fortnite, Wow.. But on youtube its all about the big character designers. Its not a bad thing, but people just dont know who contributes so much to the locations they explore in virtual worlds they enjoy. its crazy!
And even more bro I want to see a day where you will see a kotaku article about the legendary... UI ARTIST that worked on x game hahaha Sounds like something that wont really happen :(
Discovering your implication in the Summoner's Rift in reversal really shines a clear light on the influence you had. Just about those ships flying away in the background of the topside, I know there's now a dragon that flies over there before setting in his boss spot down the south part of the map. Even if designs and concepts were not directly pulled from your work you've clearly influenced everything in there. And that handpainted style has always hit a spot for me and motivated me to improve and not give up on drawing. Thanks you Trent.
I miss passionate people like you in my life. People who want things, have goals no matter how old they are. Whose eyes shine when they speak about whatever it is they like.

Just wanted to say how much I love the shop keep/beast that you came up with. I played LOL for 10 years and I absolutely loved him! I even created a clay model of them to have to look at on my desk. Thank you for your work and inspiration!
This was such an important part for League's development because as you said, they were very non-committal about their art and story, and then you came in to help really get the ball rolling with something consistent. It's unfortunate that a lot of cooler/detailed stuff didn't make it in, but I think it was the right choice considering how much Riot prioritized gameplay readability at this point. I would really like to see the full extent of your story-driven designs within another game (maybe hopefully in Riot's potential ARPG?) because in terms of fantasy environment, your concepts are my absolute favorite. You mentioned you're still working with them with Legends of Runeterra; would love to here more about that, and skins.
It really throws into relief how difficult the industry is when you talk about moving on because you're not getting any wins. You need to get some, else why are you doing what you're doing, you know? Someone out there will want your art. It's a massive eye opener that this sort of thing happens to brilliant artists as well as those starting out. Brutal really. But very encouraging since it helps the rest of us not attach to that kinda thing, and know when moving on might be a good idea.
so cool to learn about all the behind the scenes & what is ACTUALLY like to work as a concept artist in these sort of environments. I think it's very fair to be detached at one point bc you work on this project but with all the redesigning and the other names taking over, it's only the people in the industry, or the ones involved in that project that know of you very well. and then you just move on in a way focusing on your own more personal projects. loved the art, the sketches, here for more because in my opinion, the exploration part where all the lore is discussed is one of the (if not the) most fun steps.
Hi Trent! I'm very sorry you feel detached from the amazing work you did for the Summoner's Rift, I guess it's a common thing when you are a concept artist in a big house, but your job is undoubtedly there, everyone with eyes can see it! The walrus merchant guy is still there and he sells from a balloon! The merchant-beast, on the other side of the map, is still there too! The trees, roots, rocks, little waterfalls, and other stuff really carry on your contribution to the map, to the lore, and to the fun. I remember when the map has been updated, it was one of the best moments I had with league, so thank you. Thanks for your job at riot and thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
I'm not a League player but I was freakin' blown away by Arcane Netflix show. The story, visuals, animation, its like so fucking beautiful man. So when you mention 29:30 where they have dedicated lore team, and then there are a lot of lore-related art that people have never seen before cause it wasn't necessary for the final game itself, got me really excited. Seriously, I know nothing of the LoL locations/maps. Bilgewater, Noxus, Piltover, but now I really wanna know.

As a game developer I'm still struggling finding a tool where to place all my storyboards neatly so that I can work on the scripted dialogues and cutscenes, for free because I'm a cheap indie.
your philosophy is awesome man!
The game, right now, has that baron swooping in around stuff animation.
Dude you worked on Twisted Treeline, which was a gamemode for like 10 years!! Honestly funny you dont even know about it. Sadly it got removed last year
hoping to see this guy joining the new riot mmo team. his work is awesome!
I started season 3 i didn't know if this was my kind of game. It wasn't until i saw the map rework where I really started to invest time in playing. I still play it and admire the art work. Thank you Trent if it wasn't for your art style I probably would have lost interest in league. Are you working on the new mmo game Riot is working on?
good stuff trent
Trent you are an amazing guy. I appreciate the game even more, now that i know what a huge contribution you did. I think this is what made league of legends what it is today 🤓
yesssss, more of this
Longer videos like this one pls and ty xD !
Life as a Diablo 3 artist - 30 min?! How about 3 or 4 videos *1h each with you getting into details on your masterpieces.
Love your work, ty for putting out the content
Iam again watching this video, and this video and art made me feel like I want to design some environment concepts now, thanks man
Why does your "sketches" look like my dream finalized projects ? xD ... please do a video how we can improve our sketches for clients
They didn't like your wow ideas? I always loved the burning crusade "wacky" zones with huge crystals, cool skyboxes etc.
Thank you!
thanks so much for making this! i absolutely love this kinda stuff, your vids are always packed with so much info. also it'd be sick if you were put as art director for wc3 reforged, i feel like your style would work perfectly for that, but oh well instead we get a soulless piece of junk. modern blizzard blows :/
LoL. "Revisiting all of the children you sold." Oh the pain. I get it. Also, if you ever want to jam on my Armageddon stories, let's :)
No wonder why RP is expensive. Trent K, worked for riot. 😂
My friend, hi from Perú, i see all videos in your Channel is a great material and big lessons for concept artist like me, you are awesome in follow you to 2019
Did you make the art for the Bruam Lionheart skin? I can totally see your art style in that spread.
you should work for riot more their art is amazing
My team and I are painting the legends of Runeterra stages. If Riot called me to work on new maps, I would gladly do it.

If you keep asking yourself: "How did those artist manage to get this good?",
Remember: 80 DIFFERENT MERCHANT DESIGNS!!!

Imagine Wild Rift and 3v3 map... It was good on pc.
Trent looks like Eminem in this thumbnail
45:46 I've watched this video many times and every time, I can't get off the feeling "how dare you?" that some guy would say that! very disrespectful!!
I hope you made him eat his words. lol
I feel like there should be a Pretty Woman scene where you say "Big mistake! BIIIG mistake!!!"
