    Pete these videos have been great. I was thinking maybe you could do summary videos based on HP levels. Watching the series seems like 650HP would be a good cut off. A 1500HP would be good and maybe something in between like 1000-1200HP. Specify parts and numbers as a guide for someone to buy parts in stages preparing for a build. I know Sonnax has similar for some platforms. I used theirs when planning a 4L60E build. Took the guesswork out.

    Will you be doing a video on Powerglide Valve Bodies?

    Thanks for this video. I have a 1966 Chevy Impala with the gearbox stuck in 1st gear. By putting this regulation in place I do hope that we can fix it.

    How many turns do you consider as "significant" if it takes more than 3-1/2 turns to get 80 lb-in on the adjusting screw? Great videos!!

    I have a question I am stumped on my car, I have a freshly rebuilt power-glide with a low stall TQ it goes in to gear drive and reverse but no power you can push it faster and tips? I have tried to adjust the band and that did not help.

    Should you adjust it cold or hot or does it matter?

    Hi, do you think you could tell me how to properly set my tv/throttle linkage for an aluminum powerglide? I'm young and new to this.

    I’m going to run a 4L80E but have a 1963 power glide with a very short tell shaft. I’m thinking about building the PG FOR DRAG racing only. Car weight 3,300# 4.10 rear gear LS 6L na 10”rear tires what do you think?

    • @HughesPerformance

      Your PG transmission core should be reliable through about 650 HP when built with the appropriate upgrades.
      That being said, you're going to have a hard time finding a quality slip yoke to fit the odd coarse spline of your short output shaft.
      You'd be better off fitting a regular planetary with 27-spline output shaft and the matching longer extension housing to your PG.

    Do you have to drop pan to change stock band rod to performance one? My covair PG, is going into gear hard from 1st, then It will almost kill motor, unless I power brake it, so mine needs adjustment I guess, Thank you

    I replaced the input shaft seal. And now the transmission is slipping from start. It’s like the transmission becomes disengaged from 0-5 mph. Then applying a little throttle it will shake or shutter and be fine. Drives fine. Merges on highways fine. Up and down shifts fine. It’s only at an idle (0-5mph) to accelerate. Forward or reverse. I checked my band. Didn’t seem like it changed much. But my book says 70in pounds and 4 turns out. Regardless this adjustment didn’t change or fix my problem. Do you know what might be causing my problem and also what happens if a band is torqued to (let’s say) 80in pounds and only turned out 3 turns or turned out 5plus turns. What will happen immediately and over time? Thanks!

    Can you loosen the band? I think the band may be to tight as the car wants to move forward a little more then normal in nutral its a freshly built trans with 10 min run time on it

    How often should the band be adjusted on a 59 Corvette? Stock motor. 115,000 miles. I don’t think it’s ever been done.

    Does a "bad" band effect both gears? On my PG i can do burnouts with no problem but when im in second gear and give it full gas it slips. What do you think is wrong with my powerglide?

  • @davidyj9013
    @davidyj9013 ปีที่แล้ว

    Noticed your tranny has a pan and looks like a more modern aluminum case Powerglide. Have a friend who has a cast iron PG (no pan) in his '57 Chevy with the complaint that it seems to slip when going from low to high range under medium to heavy throttle. No slippage under light throttle. Will this adjustment instruction work for the cast iron PG? Also, not familiar with the PG, but does the applied band give low or high range? Does it sound like sluggishness in the servo apply/release, or just band adjustment?

    My power glide backs up an inch or so when the trans brake is engaged. I've adjusted the band screw and raised RPM to no avail.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated

      Is this bad advice? I’m new to powerglide band adjusting

    • @n5ifi
      @n5ifi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SoftiesTruck Hughes is a good company and I would listen to their advice. Maybe I was having a woke moment or something. I would mention that the transmission should be setting in its installed position when adjusting the band. Also, I've noticed that the band changes position after rotation of the drum so I like to tighten it and then loosen and rotate the drum and re-torque. It helps to align the band to its actual running position. Sonax is your best friend when building a power glide. If its a street, racing performance application I would chunk the original single ring servo and get a sonax dual ring servo for low gear band application.
