Finally Getting Our Flat Bottom V-drive Wet

  • After owning our 1971 Sanger Flat bottom v-drive for a couple years now it was time to get her in the drink. Previous owner also had it in storage for 7 years. We ended up having to make new steel braided fuel lines and water lines and we replaced the non working alternator. We also re jetted the Holley 1050 carb. Then finally she got to splash down in Pyramid Lake nv and go for a couple slow passes. the Casale was screaming and leaking gear oil so we cut the trip short. I am going to rebuild that Casale in future videos and I hope to make many more videos of just having fun with the boat.

    good vid. sweet boat.
    my father recently passed away and left me his 20 foot flat bottom vdrive day cruiser with a 1968 GM 427 big block that we rebuilt during covid. 502 hp 511 ftlb on 91 pump gas all motor.
    I've made it my mission to finish the boat cause it was his dream boat.

    You're project is encouraging me to find a hotrod boat and give it a go. Don't tell my wife though.😆 She's wanting us to get a pontoon boat which would be cool but every time we see one that's a good one in our price range she backs out. I've told her that what she's got in mind we'll never be able to afford due to health and money reasons. Anyway I'm enjoying watching and wish you the best and a boat load of fun.😆

    It's unfortunate that the pump gas with ethanol eats the rubber right out of braided lines had a blown 49 chevy convertible one winter lost a 12' long -10 line now we drain the fuel system after every show season lesson learned your doing a fine job never had water lines rot out

    I grew up on a 21’ Nordic semi-flat bottom day cruiser with a V-drive 482/671 blower @ about 900HP. It would run ~85MPH and could pull five slaloms out of the water. Dad called it “the homesick angel”. The hull was designed for a jet drive and about 70MPH. My dad glassed in extra stringers, because the first time they took it out after getting the drivetrain and rigging done (no interior), they could feel the hull twisting from the torque. I have some very fond memories of that boat.

    • @Battle_Boat_
      @Battle_Boat_  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sounds like an amazing boat !!!!

    • @bradchristy8429
      @bradchristy8429 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Battle_Boat_ Yup. Built from a bare hull. Dad bought the empty hull from Nordic. Custom metal flake gel coat. It actually started with the blower out of the Trading Post (yesteryear’s Craigslist), and then it was like, “Now what…?” The blower wasn’t even polished, as it came out of an old semi. Dad had it polished and rebuilt. Had the engine built from the block up. Custom interior. My dad designed and built the framing and had it upholstered. 85MPH is plenty for a boat with five seats.

      @@Battle_Boat_ I’d love to, and I probably had the chance to at one point, but I didn’t know about it. Dad traded it in on a 27’ SeaRay in ‘90. From there it went to the President of the Ohio Hot Boat Association.
      A friend of mine was a plumber, and he showed up at my house one day, saying, “Get in the Truck.”
      I asked , “What’s up?”
      “Just get in the Truck.”
      We went across town and pulled into a driveway, and there it sat, on the trailer. He’d been out on a job and saw it while en route.
      I got out and immediately climbed up on the fenders and starred, almost teary eyed. The guy comes out of his garage, understandably kinda pissed. I told him who I was and that I grew up skiing being this boat. We ended up talking for about two hours. Cool guy. He had taken the Holley 1150 3Bbl (😳) carb off, and replaced it with a pair of 650s and added an intercooler. Supposedly, he had it at almost 100MPH, and told me it scared the shit out of him (the President of the Ohio Hotboat Association 😳).
      I should have told him that, when he sold it, to get ahold of me, but I missed that chance. Apparently, when he sold it, it got parted out, the engine going to Florida and the hull somewhere in Canada. Kinda sad. I do wish I could have snagged it. I would have grunted out what I’m sure it sold for.
      We now have a 28’ PowerQuest with a ProCharged 496HO now. I’d like to talk the wife into letting me pull the Procharger and replace it with a Whipple. I miss the real blower motor sound and low end muscle.

    haha as soon as I saw you cranking that engine on a boat sitting like that I knew we'd have a destroyed impeller. When they sit longer then a year or so they dry out and those blades bend over and stay bent over. You also have to remember you cant run those impellers dry, you always have to feed those water when you run them. It'll nuke an impeller in 5-10 seconds of running.

    No harm in playing it safe but V-drives whine. Similar to blower whine. When there is a hot rod boat off in the distance if you can't tell if it's a jet or v-drive from signs of a rooster tail you can tell by if it's whining or not.

    Hey man. You still have this bubble deck? I’m picking up a K boat tomorrow and wanted to know if you had to buy all the braided hose over again or if you just slide it off the hoses and replace the hose. My boat is fully rigged less motor. Hoping to have some good luck like you getting her going. Also, can I get some engine specs? I want to run a blower on my 427 but need to know what pistons I need for a B&M setup like yours. How many PSI is it getting?
