Thats the best i had a native fellow show me how to mackeral fish in nova scotia to catch six fish at a time omg it was so much fun that guy was a saint he gave me a rig reel cool guys down there
I know that this video is over 2 years old. I have been trying to learn about fishing and have been watching these out of order. Seeing Brandon give that kid a rig and answer all the questions he had... touches my heart. Thank you for:1 - these videos. 2 - being so kind. 3 - being patient and teaching us newbies.
There were small patches of glow showing. It wasn't the most effective or scientific test, but with the small amounts still showing the fish did seem to find it more frequently.
Hey Skipper...I wonder what would have been the outcome if you switched the glow hook to the bottom of the rig? Did the fish like the hook...or the water column?
Love your videos. I was stranded in Thailand for 10 days and watching some of your old and new videos kept my mental sanity against people stupidity. Thanks. Be safe and keep sharing your fishing adventures, I’m on lockdown in Scotland and not allowed out fishing. Can’t wait ..🎣
Sabiki rigs have little glowing beads on them for a reason. Don't even need to tip them if you are around some good structure, just the gold hooks and the glowbeads will do the trick. Very cool gesture setting up the young fella with a rig. If he doesn't catch a fish, at least he'll remember the kindness of that skipper on the pier.
Hey Skipper, thats nice of you to give those kids your good fishing stuff. Awesome i see the kids have a big smile. Have a nice fishing night n stay safe always. 👍👍👍😁😁
I recommend you to get a black light too, and flash on for 1 or 2 seconds n by doing that you boost the hooks or any glowing material, it will be much brighter and it will glow longer
Bait runner reels are great. I have three from the Diawa BRI series. One with 10lb test, one with 15lb test and the biggest one with 20lb test. I don't run braid, as old as the reels are they may not handle braid well. I used to night fish from piers in Southern California back in 1984. I miss it.
@@HeySkipper Not much, the piers at Newport, Balboa, Huntington, are all way over fished. If you where lucky you'd catch some small mackerel. But all they where good for was bait. I'm one of those people who can be using the same bait and rig as every one else on the pier, and while they catch fish, I don't, but to me its more about being outside. I should be back fishing in about a week to ten days, depending on weather. And although Wyoming has had some cases, but no deaths, I'm not worried. Any ways, stay safe and Tight Lines.
You should try it with one bare glow hook and one with bait on it so only a lil flash of the glow shows like you were saying to see if they hit the glow over both glow and scent
I actually just made some of these on my own about 3 months ago. Super easy. Go to a craft store and pick up some glow in the dark glue and add to whatever hook you want to use.
Nice! Yeah we use glow hooks tipped with minnows when we fish for walleyes and crappies at night. You should do a diy vid on the glow light. I’ve made a few using clear pvc and LED strips.
I owe you an apology. About a year ago I left comments that you were getting to commercial and watching your videos was like watching an infommercial. I was being way to judgey and failed to realize the time and effort that went into designing and printing the instructional guide. I've watched a lot more of your videos since and I realize you are just trying to help out newbies and casual fisherpersons. Not that my opinions mean much in the scheme of things anyway.Again, just wanted to acknowledge that I was being a jerk. Stay safe and healthy.
Wow, This one means a lot to me. Thank you for letting me know this, comment made my night better. I’m happy you appreciate my guides! I spend so much time putting them together so that it can be easy to learn. It just confirms to me that I’m doing good. Thanks 🙏🏼
I found this product called "Pro-Tec Super Glow Powder Paint." Think you can use this stuff to make your own glow hooks in different colors and with different hooks?
Thanks and same to you and yours 🙏🏼 this episode was filmed about 3 weeks ago but we are still able to fish and practice social distancing right now. Looking forward to the new videos coming up 😁
To eliminate possible bias, test the glow hooks at the top and bottom position of the rig. Also, with the 2 baits (worm + shrimp) I am not sure that the hooks are actually exposed/visible for the fish and therefore the glow aspect may not be really valued here.
where is this at? you are lucky to have white perch its excellent fish, i caught one once and had no idea what it was but tasted amazing and then i did a search and found the name, i caught it near lake ontario ,it turns out to be an unusual catch as its a brackish water fish
Should have tried the glow hook on the bottom and regular hook on top as well. That would have given you a more accurate result. They may just have been higher up in the water column for example... Awesome videos though man, keep it up, big fan!
I like these white perch fishing videos, I’m not too experienced fishing for white perch in brackish water, you’ve taught me something today do you think glow hooks will be more affective during the day too in murky water compared to regular hooks
On the subject of glow in the dark, one thing we do over here in the UK to make bites easier to spot on the rod tip at night is attach an isotope (like a tiny 2" glowstick that lasts for 30yrs) to the rod blank using heat shrink tubing. Isotopes are fairly cheap and reusable so you can always swap them to a new rod further down the road if you want. To attach one you need to first remove your tip eye (hold a lighter to it or use a heat gun) then slide on a 2" section of shrink tube (around 10mm diameter) and shrink it down so the isotope is held against the back of the blank by the tip with plenty of the middle left showing, repeat this process again but at the top end of the rod and then replace the tip ring. Doing it this way gives a really tidy presentation and it's almost impossible for the line to get wrapped up in it on the cast. (I can probably find a video showing the process if my description isn't good enough)
First you were alittle cold to that kid when he asked what kind of fish and then you were kind to him when he asked what rig you were using. Glad you helped him out, better to see our children learning something useful in life instead of video games all the time.
cool vid! Seems like a ton of smaller game at that pier, which means lots of bigger game. I wish fishing in Hawaii was that productive. By the way, what kind of rod are you using to catch the perch?
Cool! Fishing in Hawaii isn’t as good as people think. Not enough conservation fishing and too much fish taking, including illegal fishing practices. But we have a lot of not so game fish, so if you’re just fishing to catch something then you won’t be disappointed. One day if you ever come to Hawaii, maybe we can do some fishing.
Hey Skipper what size did you order? I found them on wish but I’m assuming their sizes are different than US sizes. I’m not sure of the conversation and I can’t find a chart.
I agree grow hook definitely work better, but you don't feel a bite from small white perch, cause your fishing gear is for bigger fish.😄😄 love your video.
dumb question, but could the glow hook possibly been at the right depth that it just caught more? I ask since I've set up sabiki rigs and generally find that I hook on 2 or 3 hooks out of the 6 I have on there.
Hey Brandon. Nice video as always!! If possible I would like to know how you service your gears especially the reel. I fish in saltwater a lot and I find I can do much more in keeping the reel in better shape but I don't know how. If you able to find some free time hopefully you can share it. I know I'm asking a right person because you're a great fishing gurus. Stay safe!!❤️
@hey skipper , activate the glow hook by putting your headlight against it for 10 seconds , you will see it glows brighter allowing a better hookup when the bite is slow .
you dont show how the glow hooks look after you shine the light on em and if they even last long? i got floaters with the same glow in dark paint but they dont last long and not really visible from far
Why you do not dry to put the glow hock down and the regular hock up. May be fish eating in the glow hock depth. To confirm that the fish prefer this hocks

The look on your face at 6:20 is priceless! Like a little kid on Christmas morning finding a present. Never lose that passion.
Should have tested glow hook on the low part of ur rig. I have had fish only hit bottom hook in some spots and high hook in others.
You’re so right! I will have to do that next time to be more fair with the comparison. I like to have multiple rods out anyway
It's always either the very top or the very bottom.
true, was thinking the same...
maybe that's the trick in video ! He is anyway advertising the glow hooks !
So it makes no difference.
Mohammad Azimi it does make a difference
The idea was to see if the glow hook worked i also have them , you covered them with the worm so how would we know lol ?
I was thinking the same thing.
