Competing in the Dakar Rally on a motorcycle is hard enough, but the Original By Motul class is the hardest. Riders in this class do it solo, that means they do all their own bike repairs and preparation, cook their own meals, EVERYTHING!
We spent some time with competitor #96 Tobias Ebster (who is also a rookie) during the 48 hour Chrono stage of the 2024 Dakar Rally.

He is the nephew of Heinz Kinigardner. There is a lot of support coming his way. Not to take away from his achievements so far, dude has talent and definitely put in the work, but you can barely call him a privateer
sorry to say buddy but if you are sponsored by RedBull you are not a privateer, he is a pro playing with those who can't afford a team. He has being 1st since the 1st stage, he's way ahead of the rest of those who race at Original by Motul, and I hope that category doesn't become as ''professionalised'' (ride level wise) as the rest of categories
Thanks for sharing this footage about the Original, my favourite class of this awesome race. The 'after hours' shots add so much to the overall enjoyment of getting to know the race and those brave enough to challenge themselves in these great environments. "A challenge for those who go. A dream for those who stay behind." ... indeed.

Great perspective of a great race. 5:05 The "electric" Audi generator is crapping up the bivouac with noise. Just run gasoline Audi, don't try to convince us to go "green". ** 6:30 the Audi "green" car generator (rally car engine) is running full throttle again, while stopped. Enough of calling these cars "electric". Go Tobias!
To be fair, all the teams run generators in the bivvy.

Watche all the highlights of the 48 h bivouac stage. Tobias says first rider leaves at 6:20AM. Didn't see a lot of timing tents or personnel. After they reach the bivvie, what is the starting order for day 2?
Can't be easy on the guys knowing Carles didn't make it.But it's a dangerous sport and they all know it and are professionals.Hope everyone has a great race and stays safe.
