One of the better Raised Letters I think I've heard in a while. Nice quill, steady warble, and not bad machining. What was the serial on this one by chance?
A lot of K5LAs I see on NJ Transit along with SEPTA have been ordering normal K5LAs. and then opting for the nylon horn filters from EP Power. Hyundai Rotem ordered a whole bunch of K3LA-CDFs for the Septa Silverliner Vs, and I definitely can tell the difference between an early RL and a new RL.
I’m a sub contractor for septa. I got to know their guys and trains pretty well on top of being an electrician lol. Their acs64s have the new raised font with heated back caps. Their coach cars that are from their old AEM7s have wide font k5las and they’re the ones they put the blue bonnets on. The silver liner 5s have k3LAs they came with the metal debris covers from the factory but most have blown off. The silver liner 4s have Leslie rs2ks (I believe) they’re mounted underneath
@@mattyfz496 All ACS-64s have K5LA-CDFs with the heated backcaps. The odd thing though is that a lot of the K3LAs on the Silverliner Vs have the blue horn covers added over the CDFs. The Silverliner IVs also have Leslie S2Ms with those blue horn covers too. If you look closely to the left of the front coupler, you'll see it.
I think that may have came off an ACS-64 cause if u Look at a picture of one they are identical and the same bells just it might sound different here because they have a different air system hook up.
What size gallon tank are you using. I have a K5LA with 1/2" airline using a 20 gallon compressor and I only get about 3 or 4 seconds of a good blow out of it.
Currently 90 gallons at 165psi but I have a regulator that feeds the horns a constant 120psi when I’m running. In that video I had around 80-90psi left in the tanks at the end of each run
@TheHornKing Are you using 1/2" line from the horn with 1/2" fittings into the air tank? I use a 1/4" end fitting which is making me wonder if that's the cause on why I get short blows.
I need to make a new video of my setup lol. Currently I’m running 3/4” ID from the tank too my Viloco 206 valve. My tank port and all fittings are 3/4”. After the valve I step down too 1/2” ID line and fittings that feeds the mounting puck. The 3/4” stuff isn’t necessary, but I do that just to have as much flow as possible because I do run a lot of air hungry horns. If you have a 1/4” fitting in line with your horn that is definitely a choke point in your system.
I love the sound of this horn to by the way one of the best ones I've heard as far as a newer horn. Can't even remember what mine sounds like it's been so long since I've heard it lol
I'm now to the point if I can't do at least 30 gallons as a air supply I just have to wait. Would like more like 60 but without a belt driven air compressor lol I still need to be able to drive it everyday lol
A K5LA from last year! Quite the K5LA collector are you?
They place these horns on Siemens Chargers. Sometimes, they do K5LA hybrids from the Siemens factory. 1 2 3a 4 5
Nice looking Nathan K5LA!🛤🚂
Reminds me of a NJ Transit horn but louder

If I remember correctly this one is a 136K horn
Sounds like the ones they put on the Mbta 1100 rebuilds
@TheHornKing do you have a email or a website?

You forgot about it 😂😂. Nice!
reminds me of an Amtrak ALC-42
Are there more K5LA Horns at Beech Grove Shops?

Can you do a version without the quill?
2:12 what is this place? It looks so relaxing!
Middle TN
Sound a little like the horn Amtrak F40 406 uses
Alp-46 sound a like
Or ALP-45 or even GP40PH-2/B or Comet V

Where does one purchase CDFs? I've seen them on ebay, but they're always super expensive..
eBay is your best bet too be honest. You need an account to purchase them from power rail but they are much more expensive going that route.
Paperwork?
Got a horn truck now huh? Lol
Yep lol. Still gotta do a video on it. Snagged me a looooong bed lol. Needed that for the ship horns and air tanks
