  • *I have a little bit of a cold so I might sound a bit more unintelligible than usual :p*
    The Happy Mask Salesman. Not much is known about this guy except his almost obsessive love for masks. He follows Link into Termina and begs Link to retrieve his stolen mask. At first glance, the salesman doesn't seem to be too mystical, just very weird. But, if you put all of the clues in the game together, he becomes a bit more than that...

    This is why VortexxyGaming is my favorite Zelda theorist. She was so thought provoking. Never before did I wonder things about the Happy Mask Salesman like why he was immune to the evil of the mask when he originally had it, or just how the clock tower was much more than it first seemed. And while I always did think the salesman was different than most, i still didn't really stop to think just exactly what is his role, his interest in the events was. Vortexxy really enriched the lore, making it even more enjoyable with her stories, observations, and theories. Her passing was a terrible loss for the franchise that she clearly enjoyed and loved so much.

    Going along with your theory I believe the Skull Kid comes from Hyrule instead of Termina. The Skull Kid from this game I believe to be the one that gives you a piece of heart when you play Saria's Song for him in Ocarina of time. That Skull Kid says the two of you should be friends, and it fits the personality of this lonely one, plus at the end of Majora's Mask he says Link smells like the fairy boy who taught him the song of the woods. All of this would explain how it was in the Lost Woods the Skull Kid would run into the happy mask salesman and steal Majora's Mask.
    Your videos are great! I look forward to more!

    I thought the Happy Mask Salesman was a descendant of the vanished tribe and that's why he can resist the mask and reversed time.

      The mask salesman also says that he has folowed you. But evrybody in hyrule has a copyright in majora's mask becauce it is a alternate universe. But the mask salesman has no copy of him in majora's mask. The others who don't hafe copy's are link'zelda'impa and ganondorf because they are getting incarnated. So does that mean that the mask salesman is also importent to the triforce???

      Jackie Biegel Maybe........ He could be the reason why the earth cracked and Demise being let loose. He might have taught the ancient tribe technology, and he maybe the reason why the ancient tribe is gone. He tells link of the legend and seems to be the only character that knows this legend at this point in the game series, like he was there when it happened. He seems to have God like powers. He says that he has followed link and knows of his deeds, but you never see him. He also says that the skull kid stole the mask but for all we know he could be lying and let the skull kid take it to reign havoc on Termina. When you watch the cut scene of skull kid taking the mask, look at the happy mask salesman, he has a huge smile on his face and his eyes closed. His mood does change quickly and almost as if was scripted when talking about the theft, like he is putting on a show for link. He also knows the song of time and seems to have control over time for up to three days, and he does not need the Ocarina to do this. If you let the moon crash into the earth and kill everyone, that would mean that he would be dead too, but he is not. He plays the song of time to reverse everything to continue his games, and does it with a smile. He might get joy out of watching link suffer so that is why if link fails, he reverses time and sets everything the way it was three day's prior, to continue his games with link. All of the children in the field on the moon where you get the Fierce Deity mask look like him as well, or at least the back of there head's do and so does there ears. He also does disappear at the end of the game, maybe fading into a different timeline. He seems to be the only character that does this, unless they die. I think the reason that we never see him as adult link is cause Ganondorf won (at least since the last time he saw link as a child) and evil has control over the land and he got his way, so he left to another timeline.There are always three gods mentioned, Din, created the land, Nayru created the Order, and Farore created all the inhabitants on the earth. When they left the world the 3 Triforce's were created and fused into one at there points. But what if the center piece of the Triforce never was created because the 4th God never left. 4 seems to be a special number in the Zelda universe. As far as I know Demise and his demons were imprisoned into the earth by Hylia and the remaining tribes but does that mean that Farore created Denise and his demons? I think the happy mask salesman created the evil. Demise is not a God but rather the hate and misery of all creatures in physical form, That is why he says he will return. Hate will always be there no matter how small, it can never be extinguished. What if the Happy mask salesman is the fourth God who is really pulling the strings of all evil...and he is just really playing with the other three goddesses creation at his own leisure, just to amuse himself. This would explain how Demise' reincarnations have a third of the fused Triforce. The happy mask salesman bestows it upon them. He can't give them his powers (or I should say he wont) cause he never left the world to create the last piece so he gives the reincarnations a piece of the three piece Triforce, just to stir the pot. A possible reason why he wont give them his power is if he gave the incarnations some of his power it could trap him there or maybe even kill him. I also find it strange that all the evil (for the most part) manifests itself in male form. Lastly, he is a mask salesman who's masks are the trapped souls of the living, He could be another character in the other games and we don't know it cause he changes his appearance to stay hidden so he can keep playing his games...........Maybe Tingle...............would explain tingle's erratic behavior.

      Another theorist called Dr. Wily (if you've ever heard of him) theorized that the Happy Mask Salesman (yours truly) is a deity, and that he created the parallel world of Termina so that he could destroy Majora, using the faces of the people of Hyrule in order to make it so that Link would feel the need to save them. Just something interesting.

    Perhaps, if your theory of Termina's history mirroring Hyrule's in your "Fierce Deity" video is correct, the Happy Mask Salesman is this iteration of Termina's Sage of Time, as there is no Royal Family surviving to this day outside the Deku Kingdom. If so, we could likely piece together the other sages by their impact.
    Obviously, the sages of Forest, Fire, and Water would be the Butler's son, Darmani, and Mikau, as they directly assist Link with their strength.
    For Spirit, I'd choose Igos du Ikana. As guardian of Ikana castle and a spirit himself, he has a notable presence in his domain, something sages are well known for. In addition, he provides the elegy of Emptiness after his defeat, allowing Link to progress through the Stone Tower. Also, if he is a Sage, he shows direct parallels with Nabooru, who also served as a mini-boss to be defeated and held power of a desert-dwelling-people.
    Shadow is difficult, as both times the role was relegated to Impa, who served completely different roles in each game she's a sage, with exception to serving under Zelda, who isn't in this one. With that said however, Skull Kid actually fits the bill pretty nicely. His strong relationship to the giants, who serve as guardians of Termina, and being both a cause and victim to suffering and the dark side of Termina, places him nicely into the Shadow mold. The only issue is that rather than being an assisting force, he's antagonistic. However, this is far from abnormal, as Zelda has been possessed by primary antagonists multiple times, and several sages, especially in Ocarina of Time, show disdain towards Link until he proves himself or saves them.
    As for Light, I'd go with Tatl. While she reprises the role of Navi from the previous game, she does so not because she's told or destined to, but because Link helps her so she repays the debt, only to befriend him, a staple situation with Link and sages. Her being around has the same affect as Navi, as she provides advice and direction for Link, which certainly counts as lending her strength.
    Light - Tatl
    Forest - Deku Butler's Son
    Fire - Darmani
    Water - Mikau
    Shadow - Skull Kid
    Spirit - Igos du Ikana
    Time - Happy Mask Salesman

    I absolutely love the Happy Mask Salesman. Such an enigmatic character. Also thought that your theory was pretty good and close to what I've thought.
    While I believe that the HMS is an agent of the Goddess of Time, I always felt like he was more of a "divine meddler" who did not take Majora's Mask because he was commanded to. His natural wonder lust for rare masks where what caused him to go after it, despite the Goddess' saying so. The Goddess of Time didn't really HAVE to go tell him to get it because he would find it anyways. She knew what paths the course of time would take if such an action occurred and allowed her meddler to take it, get robbed by the Skull Kid, and then have the same happen to Link.

    Maybe the Goddess of Time influences Zelda to send Link back in time with all knowledge in OOT to both fulfill his saving of Hyrule (Telling Zelda of the future) and saving Termina, a world fated for demise. Because Termina's Link (The Fierce Deity) was no where to be found (soul binded to the mask) Termina had no hero, so the Goddess of Time influences Zelda into sending Link back in time. With time altered, Link coincidentally is looking for Navi in the Lost Woods where Skull Kid steals the mask, Skull Kid (with Majora's Mask) then unconsciously recognizes him, I can infer that maybe Majora also recognizes Link as The Fierce Deity's "reincarnation", and knowing of what's to happen in Termina leads him there to meet the same fate. But Majora is unknowing of Link's power to wield The Fierce Deity's dark power. The Happy Mask Salesman was always destined to get the mask stolen, and to be lead into Termina, which is why he is never to be seen in the adult timeline because he had already met the same fate Termina was supposed to. The salesman, now in the child timeline is also influenced by the Goddess of Time, to help Link save Termina, because he was influenced he now has knowledge of his former self and the masks that he's seen in the three days he spent in Termina in the demise timeline. Him disappearing at the end could be him going back to the Heaven's (Hyrule) because it never speculates how you go back to Hyrule from Termina, but is possible proof being The Hero's Shade. Maybe the Goddess of Time sent him and Link back to their own world, with their job being done there. This is all inference and is not to be taken canon, they're my thoughts and I am not telling any of you that it's right, just wanted to share an interesting theory.

    The theory that the ocarina of time is make from timeshift stone, mined in skyward sword and leading to the desertification of lanayru/gerudo desert makes me wonder, what role do you think the goddess of time plays in other games where changing time and switching timelines is a smaller, yet still key role? Do you think that the goddess of time has a larger than thought role in the reincarnation cycle? By watching over the triforce, hyrule and link, she could be the influencing factor on the timing of link's reincarnation.

    • @VortexxyGaming
      @VortexxyGaming  8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      erendamine I like that thought :) It would explain how the birth of Link and Zelda is always timed perfectly to ensure they're old enough when evil does show up. Since the Goddess of Time would be Hylia, she would be on the side of 'good', while the three Goddesses are always neutral and simply want balance.

    I commented on your Navi video on how the five stages of grief as a motif work well with Navi being dead, as it could symbolize Link grieving and searching relentlessly for a lost friend, Navi, then finally arriving at acceptance that she is dead.
    My HMS theory is also in accordance with this, sort of. I like the idea that the HMS is an at least partially ethereal being. Why would he even want the mask and why couldn't he get it back himself? Well, I think one of his motives is to send Link on the journey in the first place so that Link passes the five stages of grief and reaches acceptance as well as to challenge Link as a test of courage. He seems to be at least directly connected to deities so this may be the HMS testing Link or Hylia acting through him to test Link also. Damn, theorizing is exciting. :D

    When I was introduced to Magic the Gathering I came up with a Theory that (and this goes with the Termina=purgatory Theory which I now believe untrue but still enjoy) the Happy Mask Salesman is actually a Planeswalker. In MTG, Planeswalkers have the ability to travel between different dimensions of reality using their magic abilities. This theory doesn't augment mine but it doesn't disprove it either provided that Termina is the same "plane" as Hyrule which I don't exactly think they are to be frank. Based on how Child Link finds Termina, I'd say that Link followed in the wake of the Happy Mask Salesman planeswalking to Termina from Hyrule in pursuit of Skull kid after he'd stolen Majora's Mask. However it's also possible that after stealing Majora's Mask, Skull Kid gained this ability as well and began pulling off his pranks on both planes, messing with the people of one plane before jumping to another to mess with it's people but ultimately returning to Termina due to Skull Kid's overwhelming feeling's of loneliness from which Majora draws it's power.

      I think The Happy Mask Salesman is Termina's God/Goddess of Time.
      Think about it, Termina seems to be too far out of the jurisdiction of the Goddesses, Link couldn't even take the Triforce of Courage with him. BUT, Termina could have its OWN deities.
      Power in the form of Wrath: Majora.
      Courage in the form of recklessness: Fierce Deity.
      Wisdom in the form of Omniscience: The Happy Mask Salesman.

    I always had the feeling that the happy mask guy was very neutral. I have no evidence to support this but I always like to think of him as the doctor from Doctor Who.

    I still think that the Happy Mask Salesman is Death himself and he sends Link, cause he isn't allowed to act in the mortal realm.
    All the masks he owns could be the "souls" he collected from the deceased.
    Maybe he want's Majora's Mask back, cause it would be a too great disturbance in the natural lifecycle... O.o

    • @VortexxyGaming
      @VortexxyGaming  9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The transformation masks that are made using the Song of Healing are not using the soul of the original owner. This is a very common misunderstanding. The Song of Healing eases the regret and sorrow of the soul and allows them to move on to the afterlife. The souls of Darmani and Mikau are seen leaving the mortal realm behind during the cutscene where you get their mask. Mikau is seen as an apparition standing right next to Link after the Zora mask has been created, and Darmani's voice is heard after the Goron Mask has been made. The masks do not have dead people's souls inside ;)

    In the supposed Manga for Majora's Mask. Link as the Fierce Deity, after fighting and defeating Majora:
    The mask falls in the ground, the Happy Mask Salesman picks it up. The Happy Mask Salesman has a worried tone, he soon bids farewell to Link, still with his worried tone. Link soon gives a warning shot from his sword behind the salesman.
    Then Link cuts one of the Salesman's mask from behind his backpack. The salesman looks at him with his smile but worried face, with Link looking back at him and saying "Be gone, troublemaker."

    When i played Majora's mask I almost thought that Majora and The happy mask salesman were some sort of team. One of the main reasons i say that is because number one: when you go to the moon all the moon children look like the happy mask salesman as a kid. The hair color and style is the same as the actual happy mask salesman. Number two: when you defeat Majora completely and the game is over, when he gets the mask back he seems sad and then just disappears completely. I thought that symbolized how him and Majora finally admit that they lost in their little "game" so to say. Maybe that's also why the happy mask salesman can like you said control time too in this world. I think they were playing with the people/ world of termina. Also, why would he spend ALL that time trying to hunt down a supper evil mask that was sealed away if he wasn't evil himself? Gosh Zelda games sometimes don't make sense but i Love them!

      ***** i think he is symbolic of something greater. well, in OOT i just think he is a shieka, but in majora's mask i think there is more to him. it depends. i believe in the "link is dead" theory. if you beleive this theory, then what i think he represents is the mask of the gamer. let me explain.
      MM is about link accepting death and maturing/redeeming his childhood, and majora is symbolic of michael jackson syndrome/ columbine and the fierce deity mask is symbolic of true maturity as in order to get the mask you need to do all of the side missions (which is accomplished by essentially fucking around and talking to people, just like kids do), and all of the other shit that game theory has covered. some background for my theory to come full circle.
      OOT was all about the uncertainty of the future, and coming to terms with what came before (hyrule civil war). this struck a sensitive nerve in the psyche of gamers. the first generation of gamers who played OOT were just finishing highshcool/ just about to go into college (uncertainty) and 80's kids were more or less the first generation without a war. post WW2, post korea, post vietnam, post great depression. these gen x kids have had no cultural relevance like the previous generations did. this is represented by the hylian war (fight club "no great war, no great depression but our lives", clerks etc).
      then comes along majoras mask. "hey another zelda, and it plays just like OOT." and gamers went back into their comfort zone. then MM is all about maturing and either accepting death or accepting death of your childhood (depending on whether you are link or are playing as link.) anyway. the mask man is symbolic of all of the masks we put on when we play games. whether its link, mario(which is one of his masks i remind you), master chief, cloud or the chosen undead. all are masks we put on in order to play pretend. the mask man contols these masks, rather than the other way around, like in the case of the skull kid. he is the mature one, and he needs to get the mask back in so no one else will be corrupted by the game majora's mask itself. MM is a game that hates its fucking player.
      for rather than saying "nah, its over now, i have moved on" they bought the game because college is too hard or because, work is too stessfull or whatever. it was meant to give the gen x crowd one last hurrah so they can finally just let go. its the original spec ops the line

    so... what if he's a (mostly) purified reincarnation of Ghirahim...? it would allow him to be a spiritual being with magical capabilities, and would explain his WAY OVERDONE freak out with link after he finds out he didn't retrieve the mask. he over reacts much like ghirahim and he had a hint of a dark side, showing that perhaps his old psyche has not been wiped away completely, and would explain why he seems calm during the whole event, because he is silently enjoying himself. also what if he wasn't "robbed" per say? its been a while since ive played but i dont recall anyone ever saying violence was used to steal the mask. what if he simply pretended to be knocked out and the skull kid stumbled across him, knowing skull kid would be attracted to the mask, allowing himself to have some entertainment to quell his dark side..? idk i thought of this on the fly but it kind of makes sense in a way

    I have a theory close to this. The mask salesman was tasked by the goddesses to seal the mask and protect it. He was given powers that not many other than those chosen by them would have. Shortly before Gannondorf went into the sacred realm the seal on the mask started to weaken and Gannondorf was able to feel it, so the salesman went back to get it and leave Hyrule.
    The best way to leave would be the lost woods and it's many paths. While on his way out he was robbed while he was asleep by the skull kid and was called by Majora to take the mask. The mask with little power knew the salesman could easily seal it away again so it tossed him down the path to Termina( which lies across the dessert) and stripped him of most of his powers.
    Then most of the stuff happens (ripping apart the faeries, sealing away the guardians, bringing back the masked beasts.) And after all of that he gets bored and decides to bring the moon down. With the last of his power the salesman caused the three day loop to save the land.
    For seven years and a month or so this went on until link was sent back in time by Zelda after defeating Gannondorf. The salesman was back in castle town but the seal on the mask was weakened even more so he did everything over again without the memory of the last time this happened.
    With link back to his normal timeline and all of his memory and experience still with him, the goddess of the deems him worthy to solve this issue and tells navi to leave for the lost woods to get link to search for her.

    My theory,
    The happy mask salesman is the original owner of Majora. Hear me out. As a child, HMS didn't have friends(which caused rage to build up inside him) so that's why the mask prefers emotionally disturbed people, because HMS was just that. Then he found the mask. Notice how the mask is composed of hate. Hate of the other children for rejecting him. Notice how on the moon, the child wearing Majora resembles HMS, but more of that later. The kid used the mask power to try and make friends. But the hate grew and then the accident happened. The kids souls were sealed in a mask for each kid( that's why he collects mask to try and find the kids souls so they can be free) the kids on the moon are the lost kids. HMS tried to get the kids back with the power of the mask, but it took control of him. He lost Majora after that, so he searched for it to make sure no one would unlock it's power. He ran out of money, so he had to sell some of his mask to earn rupees. After that he found Majora and left hyrule, but skull kid stole it. He died looking for the mask, but hylia granted his wish if he would help link: to find and destroy the mask once and for all. When link came back empty handed, he was angry but he realized link could destroy it for him. Skip to the moon: the reason the moon was going to crash is because Majora is composed of pure hatred for all the people that resent him. HMS came back as the spirit that's why he has some powers. On the moon, link sees the memories of HMS. The child HMS is the one sitting by the tree wearing Majora. HMS realized link can't defeat Majora alone, so he uses the last of his power to make the fierce deity mask, composed of all his mask, which he sends to the moon, and the reason it says it has dark power is because it's composed of the HMS hate for Majora, and the reason HMS disappears in the end is because he freed the souls of the children he gave to Majora, and can finally rest in peace.

    Any theory on why the kids in the moon wearing the masks seem to be childish Happy Mask Salesmen? You can see his similar face and hair under the kid sitting under the tree as Majora.
    Could H.M.S be a part of Majora or a deity like Majora of sorts? Could Majora have been a kind Deity until most of their powers were put into a mask that was corrupted by the hexing rituals? Could the H.M.S. be Majora with out some of the power or the evil. May be a Shadow Link style thing where he put his evil in the mask as to not be affected by it. That might be why he could with stand the evil but Skullkid couldn't? Why he needs it back cause he is the only one who can withstand it? Or why he stays the evil is finally gone from it at the end of the game.
    Maybe that's why he had Link retrieve it and he tried to stand outside of time away from it. So he couldn't be destroyed by his own evil as perhaps due to hexing it has gotten more powerful with a puppet than he is able to do anything about. That is why he hides out "outside of time" in clock tower.
    I know the Manga might disprove some of that but just a thought.
    I kinda want to see a theory video on Majora. If you want help or ideas with that, let me know!

    ADDING THIS EDIT HERE:(I also use caps for the edit don't worry not yelling)I always got Skull Kid was just robbing a random person he came across and simply found a mask he liked, he wasn't drawn to it he simply found it by robbing a stranger as wasn't it hinted he was a trouble maker before getting the mask? Also a theory says he killed the salesmen when getting the mask, do with that as you will but it makes sense as to why in the ending he just disappears, the draw distance is farther than that right?
    Also why are the two fairies here can't spell their names atm, why are they roaming around? Don't they have a role to do or are all fairies free to do as they please until they get a job which afterwards they might die? Wow what a sad/dark life for them if that's true...but yeah why are these 2 by themselves? Also there's a theory that the Happy Mask Salesmen is either a member of the tribe who last had the mask, or was one of Demise's followers.
    I had a theory as I was doing the 100 Golden Spider quest in OOT, the family that was cursed are all red headed similar to the Happy Mask Salesmen. Do we ever get a reason why they were cursed other than greed? Idk, just something I noticed and wonder if he was from the same family but escaped the curse or maybe the reason why they were cursed?
    In MM the Mask Of Truth is gain after destroying 100 Golden Spiders again, unless the Salesmen from MM is a different couterpart to the one in OOT how does the mask end up like it does? He also in OOT says "have faith..." maybe he thought the masks would do something special? Maybe he needed to make people happy through them to lift the curse?
    Idk, what do you think? That side ques is so short it surprised me, seems explaining pointless so why did they add it? Is there a hidden meaning? Is the Happy Mask Salesmen infact a Sheik person or did he gain the Mask Of Truth similar to how he did with Majora's Mask?
    EDIT:The Skull Kid is the same one you sale a mask too and even teach Saria's Song too in OOT, and sure he's been near Clock Tower for a while going with how he meet the 2 fairies there. Doesn't Skull Kid sorta destroy the entire theory (like how Link being related to the OOT/MM Link shatters the death theory as if he died as a child.....TP Link would never have been born if their blood related) of MM taking place in another world?
    Guess you could say he got there the same way Link did but as we don't know how/when he did (sure you can see where Link met the Skull Kid in OOT as he is dragged through the opening cutscene as there's two tree stomps there in a similar way) but SKull Kid was friends with the 4 giants once meaning long ago he has been there.

  • @Mentaclink
    @Mentaclink 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    To me the HMS is simply dead, killed by Skull Kid who was influenced by Majora's call (notice how the cutscene where he's on the floor, being robbed, never shows the HMS's face). Just like Darmani, Mikau and the deku butler's son. Like the others, he needs to find peace so he can leave this world. He wants Majora (which is the reason he died) to be finally destroyed, and he wants the mask back, because getting rare masks and bringing happiness to people was what his life was about. His unsatisfied mind probably influenced Majora too, and that's why the Moon Children look like him. In the end, when Majora is finally dead, you can see the HMS fade away as if he was a ghost. It makes sense to me because the whole point of the game is to bring peace and happiness to people, restore their faith. And so the main quest is inevitably about that too, through Skull Kid but also through the HMS.

      Toney Quesenberry One interesting thing about the fact that it was 3 days is that the ancient Hebrews believed that a person could be brought back to life, but only if it happens within 3 days. After 3 days it's impossible to bring someone back to life in their view. Of course the Jewish faith isn't big in Japan, so maybe the 3 day thing has nothing to do with that. I just thought it was interesting.

    i just started majoras mask for the second time, and i am wondering about something:
    When Zelda talks to Link after he has defeated ganondorf by travelling back and forth, Zelda tells him that he needs to experience a real childhood in his life, so the time is taken back to when link is young. In majoras mask, in the start, it is told that Link went out to find someone.
    What if that someone is himself? He went out to find himself?
    Because, when link is a deku-boy, everyone seems to think it is just some small child, especially the guards in clock town wont let deku-boy out. However, Link makes himself look courageous (And the sword, so he can go to termina)
    But the happy mask salesman recognises link for being a courageous boy that surely can help him - and the happy mask salesman tells Link that he will help him....Back to his original self. The salesman recognises link right away, even though link is cursed as a dekuboy.
    Sure, the "Original self" might seem to just get rid of the deku-shell, but what if the happy mask salesman have more powers, and knows that link is searching for his real self, whatever that could be?

    New Theory. Skull Kid and Kafei were best friends. The fact that there is a Skullkid means there is a lost woods of some kind. I think they both went adventuring one day and his friend got lost. My evidence is that Skullkid was in the woods when you first meet him and Kafei was a long distance away from the village as proof they adventure. I think the Skullkid either scared or was misunderstood from Kafei that Kafei left him. Kafei getting married was him leaving behind all their friendship and cursed Kafei into a kid, possibly when they were friends, but it changes nothing.
    In fact this theory can be stretched that Kafei knew the skullkid as a skullkid rather than a human who was transformed. I haven't played the game, but the fact that he has a mask makes things more interesting as I think you get the "true love mask" or something when he gives you his mask or something. I don't know if you need that mask for the final part or anything, but if you do, it only enhances this theory. I have no idea other than that as to why he would curse Kafei. You only know Kafei when he's a child meaning, he did this likely out of spite, far before you provoked the Skullkid to drop the moon. Kafei may have also known the giants for all that matter. Maybe Kafei is the last member of that forgotton tribe that allowed the Fierce Deity to end Majora before.
    All of this is bs, that could actually be legit. I'm just posting the question. I have my other theories to tie me over, so have at it if you want.

    A very well thought out and interesting theory, but I have one of my own.
    What if HMS is actually a ghost of the Antient Ones. That would explain how he knows so much Majora's Mask. And it would also explain why he seems disappointed that the mask had lost it's power, and why he simply dissapears at the end.
    Just a theory I've had...

    • @michaelaharris3190
      @michaelaharris3190 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, continuing from above, the Moon Children wear various masks. More specifically, the masks of previous bosses from the game and even Majora's.
      What if the reason they wear those masks are because they happen to be victims of the bosses and Majora? What if a child somehow wandered into a dungeon looking for an adventure, but came across the boss and died? And what if a child long ago was just like Skull Kid? In an emotionally unstable state and came across Majora?
      HMS stated that the mask was used for Hexing Rituals. What if the child had worn the mask for so long that he was cursed forever and died shortly after?
      Again, just a theory I had.

      The fallacy of your argument is that without Majora's Mask he couldn't have done anything. It was the MASK.

    Sometimes you need to think outside the box: those making the game are creative people taking their inspiration from the world in which we live - you might be more successful looking for answers in our own art and history than with in-game references. Majora's Mask is a just a pantomime. The Happy Mask Salesman is the tragic character "Pierrot" who you may have heard of, and the Skull Kid is "Harlequin". There is a book called "Pierrot Lunaire" you should check out the synopsis on wikipedia. You will find the answers to all your questions! From wikipedia - "Pierrot lunaire occupies a divided space: a public realm, over which the sun presides, and a private realm, dominated by the moon". Hyrule/Termina - need I say more?

    I'm sure The mask the movie is related to Majora's mask's game. And the creator of the game was actually a fan of this movie. Look at the movie: it's a mask that grant you anypower and the mask's purpose is to play; not caring if it's good or bad, making it insane. Even the Happu Mask's salesman theme has a feeling of insanity: you dont know if it's happy, sad, crazy,. And even the look of the Happy Mask sales man looks like Jim Carey when he was acting the movie lol. And dont forget that The Mask came out in 1994...

I always thought the events that took place during Majora's Mask was a nightmare that Link was having, but I really have no evidence to support that other than most of Termina's citizens looking familiar.

    I tend to believe in the context of MM's release/around this time, the Goddess of Time was actually Farore. Protection from a goddess was only mentioned in one other game; TP. The Triforce of power, wisdom and courage all protected Ganondorf, Zelda and Link from the twilight (and Ganondorf from death) where as Hylians immersed in the twilight became spirits. This in addition to Ciela from Phantom Hourglass being the goddess/deity of Courage and time.
    Now after SS' release I actually believe the GOT is Goddess Hylia ie the late Princess Zelda. SS Zelda sealed herself in the temple of time and OOT Zelda was the only person in Hyrule to mention the Goddess of Time to Link. Furthermore she would have also been the Sage of Time, had events gone unchanged. If Termina is a part of Lorule, this makes sense as to why some Terminians would pray/ call out to the GOT (Goddess Hylia/ Zelda) as she was the one who originally sealed Demise, presumably in Hyrule's Sacred Realm (which is connected to Lorule's Sacred Realm).
    Interesting but the HMS with his abrupt behaviour reminds me of Girhahim, the fact he's disappointed that the mask's power has left almost reminds me of Girahim trying to resurrect Demise. If an incarnation of Demise' hatred is destined to follow Link, then perhaps part of his hatred incarnated into Majora and was sealed in MM.

    • @MrZangetsu468
      @MrZangetsu468 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ShibbyDaisy Demise being from Lorule has nothing to do with whether Termina is a part of Lorule. There are several hints dropped in ALBW that the two are connected.

    • @MrZangetsu468
      @MrZangetsu468 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All Demise ever states is that an incarnation of his hatred will follow Link. It's never specifically stated that this is Ganondorf, Vaati etc. Demise' hatred is responsible for all of the villains in the Zelda Universe, not just Ganondorf. SS does not specifically state this. Additionally since the timeline starts as SS>MC>OOT, by your logic if it can only be one villain then it's Vaati, not Ganondorf...
      I'm no troll, you're simply ignorant.
      I'd prefer you refrain prom using profanities and 5 year old name-calling tactics to try and support your argument. Have a pleasant day.

    • @MrZangetsu468
      @MrZangetsu468 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ShibbyDaisy it's fine I don't take trash talk personally.
      It doesn't hop, in fact if my theory is accurate then MM only exists because it's am incarnation of evil that follows link.
      if Termina is a parallel world and not part of Lorule then it requires no explanation because it is just that, a parallel world.
      if Termina is a part of Lorule then MM is probably unrelated to Demise directly. However, the Ancient Tribe could still be the minions of Demise who used the Stone Tower to attempt to reach the Triforce in Hyrule.

    Majoras Mask acts very much like One Ring in Lord of the Rings

  • @BenjaminWirtz
    @BenjaminWirtz 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Majora's mask is like the Ring from Lord of the Rings. He knows about Link's past as a hero because he was the same salesmen that was in Hyrule Castle town, just like Skull Kid being the same in both games this is also the standard assumption (although the evidence for Skull Kid being such is more explicit.).

      He is, in a metaphorical sense. He is a salesman that sells masks that are supposed to bring happiness. So he kinda sells happiness itself. Someone that sells happiness must be happy himself too right? Not so much. His true persona is far more violent than how he acts around link. Sometimes you'll notice his act breaking - he violently shakes link when he hasn't found Majora's Mask yet. He also eerily opens his blood shot eyes when he has one of those anger outburst. And then he quickly switches back to his happy persona, pretending he is a very kind guy. He does the same thing in Ocarina of Time when you can't afford to pay back for the masks. The salesman is a bit of a psycho lol.

      *****
      Yeah i see what you mean.
      To me it just looked particularly in ocarina of time like he was wearing a mask. It didn't even occur to me that it was his actual face (its been a while since I played it). Then again maybe that was the point.
      Honestly I think that smile of his scares me more than his angry face..

      There is indeed a Goddess of Time. She isn't mentioned a lot, but some characters in Majora's Mask call out to her for her help, such as the guy praying to her in the Skultulla House and Tatl when time is almost up.

      Nayru created the laws of the world but isn't directly linked to time itself. Din is the Oracle of seasons (not very power like) and Farore of Secrets, which is also not a link to courage. There's a god of wind in wind waker, despite wind also being part of Nayru's power spectrum. It seems to me that there are lesser gods, weaker than the golden goddesses, that are associated with a specific element and that the three golden goddesses are superior to them in terms of power.

    • @charmedpluto6851
      @charmedpluto6851 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** But in OoT It's explained that the three Golden Goddesses are Din Farore and Nayru correct? I find it hard to believe that they are lesser goddesses when the game explicitly states the contrary. Perhaps by simply being goddesses they have these abilities in their endless arsenals but had no need to use them when creating everything that ever was in LoZ. [shrug]

    Part of the reason I'd really like to see a more modern port of MM is because of that scene where the salesman disappears. My only concern with the vanishing is that it seems like it might have been a way the n64 just shows him leaving and wasn't intended to be mystical.

      Glockamole I could imagine that the Happy Mask Salesman was originally going to walk away, but they wanted to save data and not have him walk to him the entire field, him disappearing just shows he walked away. and not disappearing.

    Q- 2:21 hmm do you think that the Happy Mask Salesman could of actually been killed by the skull kid? I mean when they show him knocked out in the woods they don't show his face and he looks really stiff. Maybe Termina is a place of purgatory but Link is just visiting. Skull Kids seem half alive to me anyway and they talk about an "imp who returns to the heavens" Many things point towards this.

    what if the mask wasnt really hidden we know the lost woods swallow castle town inbetween OoT and TP. maybe the HMS is really a decendent of the hexing tribe and has hidden (sealed) the mask in his shop hence returning to the lost woods to retrieve it

    I'd like to point out that the Game Theory video claiming Link is dead is false. Link appears as the Hero's Shade in Twilight Princess as a full adult, not to mention he's wearing a warriors armor, and Hyrule Field in Twilight Princess seems scarred and barren, with bridges and monuments broken and destroyed. He might have even been a soldier in one of Hyrule's many wars, as Hyrule is VERY politically unstable. We also know that the Link in Twilight Princess is a descendant from the Hero of TIme (also known as the Hero's Shade now). The Hero of Time is the same Link that went through the events of Majora's Mask, which in the end are just the story of going through all the stages of grief and accepting loss. Skull kid accepted the loss of not being with his old friends (the giants) like he used to, and Link accepted the loss of Navi, who he went searching for in the first place. Link later had a child with whoever the mystery woman is. Truthfully, he's had a few love interests, so anything here would be just up to speculation. It does seem likely that he married Malon though, as the Link in Twilight Princess is seen living a ranching life before everything goes wrong. In the end, Link's story is probably just as tragic, but his time of death was as an adult, and most likely serving Hyrule once again, for the last time. His spirit stayed however, as his children had never grown old enough for him to teach everything he had known, and so, once his descendant came and learned all of the Hero of TIme's Sword techniques, he was finally able to rest and find peace, much like he had done for Darmani and the dying Mikau. It's funny to think the Hero that saved so many from their grief and anguish, ended up carrying the burden himself...

    My theory is that the happymasks salesman is majora's ghost risen from the dead with the soul purpess of bringing joy to kids though out the world and other dimentions giving them the happyness he never had as a child, after completing his work he came back to his home world termina to get his mask back from god knows where so he can rest in peace but he couldn't because the mask had demonic powers so he went back to hyrule to have it exsersided but skullkid trankilized him stole the mask and you know the rest

  • @trunksrocks1

    Do you think the goddess of time is the fourth goddess that is mentioned outside of the three goddesses that made the triforce?

    • @justinbetts4757
      @justinbetts4757 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since MM is the first game following OoT and OoT was the first time the 3 goddesses were named, yes. There's also Hylia from SS as a 5th, but is now reincarnated as Zelda. Hylia was a guardian-type goddess, but showed signs of time-related powers in SS, so the Goddess of Time could be Hylia since the ocarina is given to Link by Zelda and the Goddess of Time can no longer directly use her power.

    it's weird how a lot of theories base the ancient tribe in Termina, when the mask was stolen from the Happy Mask Salesman on the outskirts of Hyrule, not Termina.
