The Legend of Zelda Theory: Snowpeak Ruins

  • The Snowpeak Ruins. This dungeon is quite unusual, as it's not a temple, but an abandoned fortress. The original inhabitants are nowhere to be found. Instead, Link encounters a pair of Yeti that have made the mansion their home. Who could the original owners of the mansion have been and why did they build a fortress in such a desolate mountain?
    Please like and subscribe if you enjoyed the video :)!

    I've always loved the Snowpeak ruins and I've always wanted to know what would lie beyond them. I know every Zelda game stands on it's own with only a select few having direct sequels, but I really wish that they would go back to Twilight Princess and expand on that region more.

      They might, Zelda Wii U has a region which (on the map at least) looks like it could be Snowpeak.

    I always thought the Snowpeak Ruins were the remains of Links family from before Ocarina of Time. Ocarina touches briefly on the fact that the original Link was from a wealthy family who was part of the Civil War, but his father was probably killed in battle and with their home fortress under siege, his mother escaped with baby Link to the Forbidden Forest where he is then raised by the Great Deku Tree.

    • @grimmfate8078
      @grimmfate8078 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      K Laverdiere Ocarina of Time, book one. It was said that Link's father was a knight, well respected by the Royal Family. He had served in the army during the Hylian Civil War and was struck down in battle. Link's mother fled with her child despite being wounded. So this could possibly have belonged to Link's family...Wow...freaky.

    Heya!.
    Finally my favorite theory video, as this isn't explained so well by Nitendo. May I tell my theory of this place?.
    I think your theory about all of this is true, but I want to add something to it. The Yeti's are the parents of Ashlei!. She wears the same clothing and even a small yeti head. What if someone cursed her parents of something but she got away?. The paintings clearly shows us a very big and angry man, looking like an old general or some sort. He also seems to hold a scepter in his hand. He was probably the owner of the mansion and he was turned into a yeti because of the curse. Nothing, not even Ashlei explains about her parents whereabouts. Isn't it strange that she wears the yeti helmet?. She got to know about the yeti's. No doubt it's a connection.

    Do you think the snowpeak ruins was once the knight academy from skyward sword? Just curious due to the armory and library.

    • @VortexxyGaming
      @VortexxyGaming  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Rebecca Simpson-Wallack I believe Skyloft is still in the sky during Twilight Princess, and eventually turned into the City in the Sky seen in that game as well.

    • @rebeccasimpson-wallack8228
      @rebeccasimpson-wallack8228 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** what would also be an interesting theory is that maybe it's the skulltula house. It is only in the child link timeline (majoras mask) where the side quest of skulltulas is present. So maybe in ocarina of time when link goes back to childhood, because he went back to the time when they were cursed, they weren't saved. So they asked link to save them in majoras mask. And he does. When the curse is broken the repair and build up their mansion, but the climate change makes them abandon their home.

    • @rebeccasimpson-wallack8228
      @rebeccasimpson-wallack8228 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** and what is ashei is a descendant of the skulltula family. Her family was drafted into the war and something happed-something where the skulltula family tried to do something brave and their fellow soldiers didn't back them up, and her family ended up dying. That would explain her bitterness towards hylian warriors and why she would flee to the snowy mountains, because she didn't trust the hylians anymore. Maybe she rebelled in some way and was banished to her old home

    • @rebeccasimpson-wallack8228
      @rebeccasimpson-wallack8228 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** and would explain why the skulltula family is no longer present in twilight princess

    • @rebeccasimpson-wallack8228
      @rebeccasimpson-wallack8228 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** maybe the house skulltula, fearing being found again after the curse was broken in majoras mask, and fearing execution for their family's deeds in war, begged the zoras to take them in. At first, they refused due to the skulltulas reputation, but the family offered them copious amounts of money and the zora accepted their offer. They built up their mansion near zoras river, on top of a mountain we cannot access/ see in ocarina of time- and when the climate changed, the skulltula family fled that mansion too, but were recognized years later and were facing execution by the royal family (trouble with superiors) Instead they were banished from hyrule and went back to the only place they were ever safely hiding, but by the point, the mountain had been inhabited by yetis and many skulltula died on the journey back

  • @fledermausmann27
    @fledermausmann27 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great analysis! Here's an additional thought: maybe the fortress simply belonged to some self-proclaimed nobility before the Hyrulean Civil War. Because we know that Hyrule was not a unified kingdom before that war, there could have been several "kings" even among Hylians. Then, during the Civil War, the people of the mountain kingdom gave up their 'nobility' to instead become subject to the King of Hyrule. People may have still lived there for some time, but eventually they grew old and/or migrated closer to Hyrule Castle, leaving their old home/fortress abandoned.

    I really never got Snowpeak Ruins because it was an abandoned mansion in the middle of a frozen wasteland, and seemed really out of place in the sense of Twilight Princess as a whole. wonder if this place had some sort of Connection with "The Forest Temple" In Ocarina of Time. Think about it, although yes it's given the name "Temple" it's different from all other's in the adult half of the game. All others had a visible Diety Shadow was Raven, Water was a Serpent, Fire was Totem poles, and Spirit was Sand Goddess. The Forest Lacked one. Similar to the Snowpeak Ruins too it seems like a Large Mansion with no Inhabitants. Although you could probably argue the Poe sisters were ghosts of women who once owned it.

    That's a nice theory. It's easy for me to forget the deep history embedded in the Zelda games. I wonder if Miyamoto created an in-depth history of the Zelda cosmology and is using that as material to make his games richer. Somehow with all the games and franchises he's responsible for, I doubt he'd put that much forethought into each game (even though I don't believe the Mario series has that much depth to it and seems to be made up as the games progress). If that is indeed what he did, maybe he did it early on. There seems to be a fair amount of depth involved (upon second thinking) as there are alternate timelines for this one franchise.
    Maybe from now on, whenever I play the Zelda games I should make an effort to pay more attention to all the details and not treat them as mere meaningless background art. Thanks for giving me a new way to look at these games and games in general.

    I don't normally like ice stages, but Snowpeak Ruins is one of my favorite levels in TP because of the mysteries surrounding the building. You almost feel like an urban explorer as Link walks down the decaying halls, absorbing its haunting beauty. It makes me want to learn about the history behind the fortress and who the people running it were. The clues are vague at best. There are no written records or lore in the level for Link to read, and that coat of arms doesn't resemble any clan or family in or around Hyrule that we are aware of yet.

    I think Ashei could still be from Snowpeak, because "It's unlike any mountain I've ever known" is like her getting nostalgia over it, like it was better with any places she's encountered since. That, and with the weathering on the top of the mountain, the whole place could've deteriorated quickly.

    Can't the crest with the rapiers just be the fact that like Ordona, Snowpeak may skim the outer cusp of Hyrule. It's probably just a safehold for neighbouring Royals, just like the Northern Castle in AOL was a safehold for Sleeping Zelda.

    One possible explanation for Snowpeak's snowy landscape could be the delay of Death Mountain's eruption. Death Mountain erupts in Ocarina of Time in the Adult and Hero Defeated Timelines, but not in the Child Timeline where Twilight Princess takes place. Instead, Death Mountain could have had a delayed - and much larger, devastating - eruption in the Child Timeline resulting in large amounts of ash getting pumped into the atmosphere and creating a mini ice age, like the Krakatau eruption in Indonesia that triggered the Little Ice Age during the medieval period.

    @vortexxygaming not sure if you'll see this since the videos a little old but the crest that's all over the mansion in snow peak, I found it somewhere else also. Replaying T.P. And in the beginning when midna takes you to meat zelda as a wolf, the same winged crest with crossing rapiers is above the fire place in her chamber. Could imply the mansion belonged to the royal family or was for someone who served them. Also great video.

    One thing I'd like to point out is that Twilight Princess falls on the child timeline, where Zora's Fountain never froze over due to evil infiltrating the water temple. Still, that doesn't mean the climate couldn't have changed in a more natural manner.

    I thought of something, since you said that SnowPeak was Zora's fountain frozen. I tried to compare the OOT Map of Hyrule Field and the TP map of Hyrule field, it looks like Gerudo Valley(Desert in TP), Kakariko Village, and maybe Hyrule castle were in similar places, So I would guess Kokori Forest was somewhere to the right above Gerudo Desert in TP even if the map shows no land there, even if the maps a little larger then in OOT. And since Link lives in Ordin Village in TP, I think he was born in Ordin but when the hyrulian War started maybe they moved him to Kokiri village to protect him??

    A great theory *****, just as all your other ones. I love them!
    Just like to add that the snowpeak ruins seem really similiar to the forest temple in OoT... both being a mansion/fortress where noble royal people have lived. I think that both must have been places for the lords or duthces of the royal family, who live there taking care of for the outer sections of the hylian kingdom.
    They could have possibly even been leaders of a different race or tribe who vowed their allegiance to the royal family. I think there could have been many of these kind of places all around Hyrule.
    As to why they are abandoned... well might have been because of the Hyrulean civil war. Yeah, just wanted to point that out. :D

    My initial reaction at seeing the crest was pirates! Of course, as a reference to Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass, this entirely screws up the timeline you proposed and what I assume many others have proposed as the timeline.

    The swords used by regular Julian soldiers actually are much closer to arming swords than longswords, you can look up some historical photos if you like.

    Zora's Fountain is on the other end of the map from Snowpeak. They can't be one and the same.

    Hey :) Can you do a Theory about Tingle? His story, what is it, how can there be a tingle plushie in SS, and most important, how is he so important in spin-offs without having any big role in the series?

    2:14, does it look like the goddess of time image from Majora's mask?

    While I like the idea, explain how you can find pictures of Link in the Magic Armor around the mansion, and for that matter, pictures of the Oocaa city.

    Could it also be possible that Snowpeak was some manner of outpost for a country other than Hyrule or the Gerudo tribes? Perhaps it either belongd to the nation of Holodrum, Labrynna, or some third unknown power beyond the borders of Hyrule who wanted to keep the powers of Hyrule and the Gerudo in check and prevent either from using their territory to attack each other.
    Perhaps Ashei's family is a decendant from these other nations who settled in Hyrule after the war was over.

    There is a little problem about the armors : the gauntlets have only 4 fingers... I dont think they are designed for humans, look at 2:50

    this is a interesting theory. if Ashei is potentially a decedent of a clan who ruined over snow peak long ago, does anyone think that the clan may have some relation to ordana. mostly saying this since Ashei seemed to be round eared, must of the ordonians are round ear, but during ocarina of time there were no round ear people living in hyrules borders.
    maybe Ordana is what's left of the people after they migrated south to be refugees in hyrule or something.
