Toni I love this series! You single-handedly taught me that there is more to yarn than worsted weight acrylic, and for that I will always be grateful lol
@@elizabethprimeau3286 every time I start looking at yarn, I have to remind myself that I have PLENTY that I need to work through before I get more. I hate clutter and am pretty minimalist… but yarn is kryptonite 🙃
Emma, I agree. I have never given much thought beyond color, texture, and size. This thought me I need to learn more about yarns and threads more beyond the basics.
The silk they have in "A Touch of Silk" looks to be silk noil, those tweedy bits in the yarn give it away. Silk noil is the shorter fiber that is left over from making silk fabric so it doesn't have the soft and shiny quality like the pulled silk you normally think of. It has a bumpy texture and feels a bit more like cotton in texture. Landscape breeze is so gorgeous, thanks for sharing these!
@@TLYarnCrafts That silk noil is probably where the smell comes from. I have several skeins of 100% silk noil yarn, and they all have that strange smell.
I made a 100% silk noil dress once. It was wearable, luxurious, unique material and lasted for yrs and yrs. It didn't feel anything like you expect "silk ", that is not slippery or drapey. I guess it is just enough silk noil to add the.nubs to texture the yarn. Thanks for the reviews. Love to listen to you.
Wow, as a hand spinner I am very impressed with your critique of the average/ or above average retail yarn. I've just rolled a one pound ball of yarn mixed with scrapes of everything. Merino, Jacob, finland, hand dyed, hand spun, art yarn , nylon, mohair acrilic. Every random yarn you could think of in a cornucopia of textures and colors. The end results are one of a kind artistry. Hang on to all of it. You can never underestimate how a simple yarn can make a project pop. All of us fiber artists are amazing creators. Your information is so real. It doesn't shame anything just reads the medium for how it hooked. Love it.
Walked into Joann’s and found landscapes breeze and immediately fell in love with it. I made my sister a pretty long scarf with only 4-5 little skeins in Willow and I made a small dog sweater in a different color. The color transitions are amazing! I’m just sad that it’s all sold out online. Can’t wait until they restock. :)
i used the faux mo in the charcoal color to crochet a sweater vest! i doubled up the strands and it turned out really light weight and soft! it is affectionately called my dust bunny vest
The scrubby yarn surprised me, to be honest. I've never seen a skein of this type of yarn before, ever! And that it was soft on your skin REALLY surprised me. Am dumbfounded why Lionbrand would develop a singular, niche yarn like this only for a limited time frame. It seems to me if it is successful, they should continue to make it since it is the one yarn no one else ever makes. That Landscapes yarn reminds me of a yarn you used about 18 months ago in another review, but I think that one was a cotton yarn. Thank you once again for being such an amazing presenter. I adore your channel!
Probably exactly as you stated, it's limited as a test period. If it sells well they'll likely enter a very similar kind (most likely adjusted a bit according to feedback) to their permanent line
I happened to find several skeins of the scrubby yarn in the bargain bin at my local JoAnne's- and I have ZERO complaints about it. I'm generally extremely bad with crochet- for years I couldn't even maintain tension, or keep track of stiches, always fighting the yarn (and what do you know, it's always been the cheapest of worsted weight acrylic). But the scrubby yarn? Love it. A little hard to manage the first few stiches, but that's understandable, and after that it's dead simple. So much so I've made a few scrubbies from it, and usually have at least one for use in the shower. It really is fairly soft on the skin while working it up as well
I’m late commenting, but regarding the smell of the yarn that had silk in it…silk itself has a very distinct smell. I haven’t smelled the yarn in question, but whenever I am shopping for clothes, I can recognize silk by the smell.

TL, thank for this series. I am looking forward to getting your book. The one thing that became glaringly clear to me in this series is that there is more to yarn than I have ever given (or had time to give) thoughts to. Perhaps, you could do another book on the different yarns and what crochet hooks, stitches, and patterns that suit each best. I now want to learn more because of you. Crocheting was just a hobby, I got a lot of joy from making blankets for those I love. This year I want to start making other things and to be honest, I get a little stuck. You are such a pleasure to watch, you truly love doing this, it shows and it is infectious! Now I want to take it to the next level. Thank you for putting out such informative and easy to understand videos. The knowledge you have in your craft is obvious and it has inspired me to learn more.
Love this video! As a newer crocheter who is venturing into the clothing world, the hardest thing for me is choosing which fiber type to use for a project - you’re teaching me so much, THANK YOU🤗🥰

What a fun and informative review! ( I also found myself reading your shirt over and over, and taking deep breaths. I guess I really needed to de-stress! 😀) I really want to try the Landscape Breeze and the Lazy Days. Thank you!
Good point! Sometimes even the yarn producers do a bad job on the care instructions. I like crocheting with Egyptian cotton, and to this day have not been able to find out if I can throw it in the dryer or not. Makes it painful to wash my large projects.
I really appreciate your reviews for these yarns. I saw them and not sure if I should get some or not. Now I know. Not to mention I really appreciate the tips about when to use the metal or wood hooks. I really thought it was a preference. I didn't realize it could effect my gage. Thank you so much. 😊
Thanks for this! I just picked up the Stitch Soak Scrub because of this video. I worked it up in a grit stitch, with a fingering weight cotton to make shower exfoliating cloth and I love it!

Hi Toni! I watched this when you released the video and wa sso sad I couldn't find Lazy Days anywhere! Well GUESS WHAT! I found it at my local yarn shop finally! I'm in Canada and my nearest store is called Len's Mills Store and they finally carry Lazy days! 7.49 a ball but it's EASILY become my FAVORITE yarn ive ever used!!! I've been making granny squares with it I have almost every single color (and multiple balls of it!) It's seriously an incredible yarn!!! I just had to come share that I'm finally able to enjoy Lazy Days and you were the one who introduced it to me!!
Love all the yarns you introduced us to. Very interesting to learn how yarn is use for different items. Your so kind and loved how you express yourself. Thank you once again. HOPE
Toni you are such a thoroughly entertaining educator! This vid just popped up while I was researching yarn and I shall keep returning as I can. You pack so much information into each vid, educating millions my dear and good on ya for that! Thanks so much for these. Your insights enrich my own teaching and I will be adding your website and these vids to my list of on-line help for students.
You mentioned Mary Maxium, I used to drive to Port Huron rather frequently to buy yarn there, it was about a 5 hour drive round trip. It's been years since I've kntted or crocheted anything. I think I'm ready to get back in to it. I was mesmerized watching you crochet forwards and backwards. I've never seen that before. Anyway, I have a few quilts to finish and maybe I'll take a trip to Port Huron for some yarn shopping.
Thank you for the reviews! Picked up Lazy Days in several colors - I am loving that the yarn doesn't split. I have found using a 4.5mm hook in half double works wonderfully.
Ok so I am so glad that someone else had a Joann experience like I had. Went in for just two skeins to finish some hats and when I left I had a bag that looked like I was making 40 sweaters! In my defense it was a doorbuster day and I only spent around $30....Love me some Joann
Yes, I know this video is old but I'm here to add my .3¢. I purchased the Stitch Soak Scrub. I make bath and body products and I figured your review was good, I should give it a try. I offer crochet clothes, so why not add a scrubby. I took the plunge and decided to follow you and made them in Tunisian. It was challenging to begin, but it came out alright. It is not the most fun to work with, but it is fun seeing the creations... So yes, I will make up a few and see how they're received. Thanks Toni.
A lot of times, what I look for in yarns is washability. Especially if it's going to be a gift. Texture, for that matter, is important. It's going to perform based on fiber content, and I understand that.
Toni, thank you so much for this honest review. This was very helpful for me. I was wondering about the Stitch, Soak, Scrub yarn especially. I love that you cover so many different aspects of the yarn. You leave nothing to question. TFS
Love the colors in Landscape Breeze, clicked on the link to Lion Brand and it's all sold out! Hopefully, they will restock soon. Thanks for showcasing these beautiful yarns. So many lovely yarns, so little time.
Hi from England Toni! Well, technically in Philly right now! Thanks for your reviews! They are so great! I love how you think about how yarn feels against the skin in use and give hook recommendations. Love love love your channel, please keep the content coming 💕
Dear Toni, I just subscribed a few minutes ago, 27 minutes as I watched your video on new Lion brand yarns to try. I am happy to join your channel and the tunisian stitch is my favourite stitch I learned when I was 8. I have been crocheting since I was 6 years old taught by my grandmother. So I learned by following what my grandmother did by sight the thin #10 white cotton as she made doilies, I followed along. Then I got a book from the library and tried followed along to learn the tunisian stitch I found and loved the look of. To this very day I must revisit relearning the basic stitch. I cannot seem to be able to make a straight edge on kne side sometimes the other. Also I have neverlearned to read patterns very well, as some terms I don't understand what they mean. I loved your review of all the yarns, that were test yarns by Lion brands. Did any test brand make the test as a Lion brand yarn to sell? I dont own wooden crochet hooks, I thought they were just a preference but now learned from you that they are used for slippery yarns. What kind do you use???
💜 you. I've not crocheted or knitted in years but your positivity was the feel-good I needed. I pre-ordered your Tunisian Handbook, but haven't done any work. Forced retirement + politics + pandemic = deep depression for me, but I'll turn things around soon. Noted that you referred to Modal as man-made. Since it's a favorite fabric of mine, I wanted you to know it is plant based, actually wood based; similar to Lyocell. Might stop into my local JoAnn's to see/feel some of the new yarns. Look forward to your next video.
Toni - absolutely LOVE your videos. You inspired me to try again to do crochet. About the 'Touch of Silk', I think the name is a comer. The silk content is probably silk noil (wild silk). It is silk that used to be tossed away. It does have a funky smell if it is not washed properly before spinning. Some companies will not do that because the short fibres of silk noil will be lost. Not something I would recommend as a crochet or knit yarn. Not bad as a woven, but not soft...not good for wear.
This is my first time watching your video. I have to say I am an instant fan. I really like your commentary on the new JOANN's yarns. Thank you for your opinions.
I think this is the best yarn review series on TH-cam ❤️🥰. I want every single one on those Landscapes colorways!! Thanks again for an amazing review 😘
That smell is the silk. I’ve passed by booths at festivals that sold woven silk scarves that look more like raw silk. The smell is UNREAL and you won’t ever forget it.
Thanks Toni, I just found you and started with Tunisian because of your excellent videos, I love your yarn reviews they are so honest and thorough, see you next time!
I just came upon this review. Thank you for your tutorial. As for the silk yarn it’s most likely raw silk. It has a distinct smell and in the early 80’s? High end light sweaters were made from raw silk. There are a couple of sweaters I had that were awesome to wear. They felt wonderful and had a cool imperfect weave. It’s better to knit with. Thanks for the video.

I live watching your videos, you have such an relaxing voice I wanna just sit relax with tea and consider buy at all yarns you talk about because you sell them girl!
As a newer crocheter who is venturing into the clothing world, the hardest thing for me is choosing which fiber type to use for a project - you’re teaching me so much, THANK YOU🤗🥰
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Now, I know what to be interested in the wool and the gang line. Going shopping will be much easier. Thank you for your wise advice.
What a fun and informative review! ( I also found myself reading your shirt over and over, and taking deep breaths. I guess I really needed to de-stress! 😀) I really want to try the Landscape Breeze and the Lazy Days. Thank you!
I would love to hear care and wash instructions with each of these. I love your videos telling us about the yarns!
Good point! Sometimes even the yarn producers do a bad job on the care instructions. I like crocheting with Egyptian cotton, and to this day have not been able to find out if I can throw it in the dryer or not. Makes it painful to wash my large projects.
This is such a great idea - thanks for mentioning that!
Toni, I decided to learn Tunisian crochet and came across your channel. YOU TOTALLY ROCK!
Every time I watch your videos I feel like I have a friend in the room with me. When I watched you test the crochet hooks I was laughing out loud.
Thank you for being so natural. It’s rare. I’ve added you to the list of “people I’d like to meet”. Lol
I just ordered your book on Amazon ♥️ I didn't even look to see what it's about! But wanted to make sure I got a copy. I'm just learning how to crochet tunisian..
Oooh I've been curious about the Fo Mo. This really helped me see what it's like - so glad to have a synthetic version for those of us with allergies to animal fibers.
The Landscape Breeze is so beautiful. I could just sit and look at those colors for hours.
Great reviews! I especially liked the viewer questions you answered!
Thank you so much for making this series! Yawn can be so intimidating and this is the easiest way to learn. I can tell you put so much thought and effort into these!✨
I love your reviews! I’m a knitter, and go by your word as gospel, for yarn. I thank you so much!
I love your yarn reviews. You're so thorough and honest. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
clicked SO FAST-- love your yarn snob series 🧶❤️
Liz is right!!!
I love your way of explaning. 😁🤩
I think the scrubbie yarn would be great for the soap pouches...
Love all the yarns you introduced us to. Very interesting to learn how yarn is use for different items. Your so kind and loved how you express yourself. Thank you once again. HOPE
I am a knitter and really enjoyed you and all great info and your instagramer questions. Very much appreciated 👍👍🇨🇦
You always do a great job at making the yarn sound poetic and i love your voice. Please review all yarns available on the planet 😂
I give your reviews 10 out of 10 for interest, knowledge, information and vocabulary. Thank you.
I love this series! Your honesty is so refreshing. I’m definitely interested in trying the mohair and the chenille appeal. Thanks as always Toni 💜😊
Love the stitch soak scrub it works great!!!! Great for a veggie scrubby
Oooh, thanks for bringing these to our attention! Love the Landscape breeze colors!
I was just able to buy lazy days at hobbylobby!
The fall colors are so pretty!
me too! i gasped with excitement when i saw it there 😂. no joanns by me so i was prepared to never see this yarn
@@potatopotatow mee too!
I bought 2 of each and idk what I'll even do with them XD
So colors in the landscape are so beautiful..I can see myself not putting it down. See the colors change is truly exciting for me.
🧶💖
Hi from England Toni! Well, technically in Philly right now! Thanks for your reviews! They are so great! I love how you think about how yarn feels against the skin in use and give hook recommendations. Love love love your channel, please keep the content coming 💕
YES YES YES a new yarn snob video! Legit my favourite series on the channel! Love what you do, super fun to watch and crochet! Thanks Toni!
You make me want to run to the store right now. Thank you for the wonderful review!
Love your series, always like knowing other crafters reviews on yarn.
Thanks Toni, I just found you and started with Tunisian because of your excellent videos, I love your yarn reviews they are so honest and thorough, see you next time!
Great review! The Lazy Days one looks like one I'd love to try!
Thank you for information on the different types of yarn including price & texture..I appreciate your honesty☕
I love your yarn reviews, Toni! I’m so excited that your book is available again!!!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You do GREAT reviews. When I find a new yarn, I go directly to you to decide whether to buy. Thanks for sharing your talent.🙋
