    Been asking how we can reapply sunscreen after putting on makeup for more than 10 years. None of the makeup artists could ever give any good advice. All danced around the issue. Only once did I hear someone say to put on a spf loose powder when touching up and that's it. So thank you Dr Dray for at least addressing this. Makeup companies should wise up to this. Many of us need something with spf for touching up.

      it’s not a makeup artists job to give advice for sunscreen wear. They give makeup advice. It’s everyone’s individual choice to wear sunscreen or not. dermatologists, skin care companies etc should give advice as they are the ones who tell us we should wear sunscreen.

    • @jiranma
      @jiranma 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@Lana.a_ hmmm...I think you might be misreading this. Makeup artists should have an idea on how to make your skin with makeup look nice if you choose to wear sunscreen and also how we are able to touch up our makeup and sunscreen together without making our makeup go all haywire. That's what I am saying. Sorry if it wasn't clear enough in my original comment. To put sunscreen or not, I wouldn't even ask a makeup artist for their advice, though I do believe any self-respecting makeup artist would be advising their clients on the importance of sunscreens since they also advise their clients on skin care, and skin care does include sunscreen. Also, which sunscreen suits what kind of skin and meld well with what kind of makeup for the best effect should be the most basic requirement of a makeup artist now in my humble opinion. Anyhow, long story short, would love more information on makeup use in tandem with sunscreen that's all.

    • @KathyDodd
      @KathyDodd 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I love Australian Gold! I use it on my t- zone. My base layer is Biore from Japan spf 50. I find the Australian gold blurs pores, evens out my skin tone and stays in place. So good for summer. I use a more moisturizing tinted sunscreen on my cheeks, eyes, ears neck. I like one called PUR tinted moisturizer or one called Andalou naturals CC cream. All these are light enough there are no lines and you can apply a good amount. So much better for mature skin than foundation!

    I am a 51 yo fair & dry skinned guy. Cover Girl has played around with renaming and repackaging the CG Smoothers product, but I've used it on occasion for years. It's good for those days when you wake up and look in the mirror and are like "ugh, I look like crap this morning." It's moisturizing, blends easily, and cheap enough that its a good "gateway" if you're not a full time makeup wearer. I've recommended it to many people, and the fact that it has some sunscreen is a bonus. If you're cheap like me, CG often has coupons & sales :-)

    I haven't watched the whole video yet (but am going to) but some of the things I spotted in the thumbnail are the _exact_ powder products I have used myself and have applied over makeup. I really appreciate this video as it tells people exactly what they can do if they wear makeup but want to reapply sunscreen. I don't always reapply but I am a fair skinned, green eyed redhead and I live in the Pacific Northwest. If I am going to be outdoors in the summertime, (we have a lot less pollution in the air so the sun is more "direct") I _will_ use a powder product to reapply my sunscreen. I don't take foolish chances with my skin in direct sunlight, even though I apply quite a bit of sunscreen right after my shower as a base layer before any makeup. So thank you for this video. The first day my now husband came to Western Washington State from his "born and raised" home in Los Angeles, it was a hot, sunny, June day. He complained that "the sun just _beats down_ here". 😂 😂
    L'Oréal has a nice sunscreen oil (sublime sun oil) that's great for a second layer in the morning. If you don't like a greasy face, simply take a hot, fluffy, wet washcloth and place that on your face for five seconds and then blot with your towel. Grease problem solved.
    P.S. You can purchase powder zinc oxide from Amazon. That's the same thing that is in one of my powder sunscreen with a brush things. So that might be helpful to some people.

      I loooove that one. It's so affordable and my skin looks so nice, wearing it (unlike with most sunscreens, which leave me looking horribly oily). There's something in there, that sometimes seems to bother my skin, though. I don't get a reaction right away or every time I use it, but with regular use, something seems to irritate my skin. Such a shame.
      It would be my 'holy grail' sunscreen otherwise.

      Big fan of that one as well, it’s mostly the only one I use anymore as it gives slight coverage and doesn’t make me look too shiny/greasy. I have incredibly sensitive eyes so I can also only use mineral sunscreens as well and this particular one never irritates mine.

      I remember Dr.Dray reviewing it some time ago (must have been at least a year, though) and it got 'good grades' overall, but she mentioned potentially irritating plant extracts. Eucalyptus something specifically.
      So I'm guessing, that's the likely culprit. I mainly get a slight stinging sensation on my cheeks, especially when I'm actually out in the sun...very unusual for me, since my skin isn't sensitive at all.

    DIY: buy an empty cushion foundation case (they usually come with both cushions needed), saturate the cushion that will sit in the compact with sunscreen, and now you have a travel sunscreen where you can simply dab the other cushion over your face to reapply over your bare skin in a pinch and great for make up wearers. There are a bunch of high spf chemical sunscreen makeup setting sprays on the market that help the re-application of spf onto the skin over makeup. Some have fragrance included though, but that's common amongst makeup setting sprays in general. Two layers of spritzing and then some rice paper blotting of the shiny parts seem to work well for me.

    One thing I would re-apply every two hours is a primer with SPF. For me (I hate foundations and tinted moisturizers), if it's a clear primer with that "silky smooth", non-wet feel and matte finish, that would be fantastic. I just looked that up and there are some primers available with SPF. I would reapply that throughout the day, for sure.

I use it over LRP Shaka fluïde or Bioderma aqua fluïde spf 50, i use the darker shade as a bronzer and eye shadow:). LRP spf 50 invisible mist and colorescience spf 50 powder but that one is tricky. The brush can get sticky from the sunscreen on your face and the powder gets stuck in the center of the brush.
