True! That’s what put’s most people off I reckon. Less sunscreen will last longer so saving on money. Prices need to go down abit, not too much just abit. It will surprise manufacturers how much profit they can still make.

I just read this morning that layering a chem SPF under a physical SPF (like in make-up) was a big no-no and did degrade sunscreen. Thank you SO much for the clarification regarding layering sunscreens! I think you and Paula (from Paula's Choice) are the only two that said it is OK, everyone else is against it. However, it seems to work for me. Normally I will put on a light-weight Korean chemical sunscreen as my morning routine when I am at home. And a few hours later if I need to go outside, I will add a tinted mineral or hybrid sunscreen on top for added protection, especially against visible light. I don't usually wear makeup so the tint also gives a light coverage.

I find that the perfect combo is chemical sunscreen + tinted sunscreen.
Chemical sunscreens have elegant formulation most of the time, so it does not pill under makeup. Tinted sunscreen is a color correcting makeup and a sunscreen in one. You will get double leyers of SPF and you will have an even skin tone.

I always start off with a thick layer of LRP UVMune untined sunscreen all over my face and neck. After letting that dry I like to press in the Colorscience FaceShield Mineral Sunscreen in Tan on my dark marks with a beauty blender. I don’t like Tinted sunscreens all over my face because of the smile lines and just the overall look of it, so I just put it over my dark marks which need extra protection (especially from Visible Light). I like the fact that the Tinted Mineral Sunscreen acts as a concealer.

I've tried a lot of mineral-only sunscreens and I can't imagine being able to apply a chemical sunscreen on top of one without turning the mineral sunscreen into a goopy, streaky mess. Applying a liquid chemical sunscreen first and then applying a mineral one over that is a great idea, though.

Love Dr Dray's advice. I struggle with tinted spfs because they stain my clothes when I use on my neck. And finding a mineral spf with zero white cast that is not drying is a challenge as well. The struggle continues to find the right one. I've tried sooooo many...such a waste of $!

You have been in my life for a mere month, Dr Dray, but I have binged your videos and love your research/science backed content. Oh - and the common sense tips… you are fantastic!
Just to share: I am a mineral sunscreen girl for my face, and I have not found the perfect one product. So what do I do? I mix my white cast fav with a darker tint than I need. I mix them both at the same time. I mix them like a painter mixes their paints… results in the perfect tint and perfect coverage.
Also - I do this with mineral and chemical for my décolleté….
    Thanks for the great video!

I feel like most face products these days have hyaluronic acid in them. So what I do is apply my hyaluronic acid toner right after washing my face while damp. 3 mins. then my serums with 3 mis in-between both, which have the hyaluronic acid. Then I don't use moisturizer in the morning because like you said, it's going to do the moisturizing. At night I use my straits that has all the germicides and fatty stuff in it. I kind of overkill it on the sunblock. I use only mineral. I do the LaRoche pose 50spf titanium dioxide tinted, and the zinc screen spf 40 from Sooper Goop, 3 mins, then my spf 40 soopergoop matte screen primer, 3 mins, then I use my IT cosmetics spf 50 foundation, then my colorscience blush spf 50 and then my Soopergoop spf 40 powder on top of all of that! But now that I know you can mix chemical and mineral I might have to give that a try. I spend most my day in a windowless room with all that sunblock on. But I'm neurotic about sunblock. I don't go places without it. People tease me about it all the time. Wear my big huge Australian hat when I'm out in the sun with spf sunglasses whenever I'm driving and stuff. LOL. I'd like to say that it's because I don't want to get skin cancer but it's because I'm vain and don't want wrinkles. Also, she's right, go eat breakfast or something. In between all my 3 min gaps I go and do other things like get dressed. Pack my lunch. Curl my hair. Whatever. I'm also an efficiency expert. Like I have a routine down and there's no time wasted in the morning so I can get this all done in time. And yes, the pilling can be prevented if you read the ingredients. Everything I use has a silicone base. People have this issues with foundations and primers. You have to make sure you use water based with water based and silicone with silicone and oil with oil.

This! I've been using 2 moisturizers and a sunscreen...I start with the CeraVe AM Moisturizer spf 30, followed by the Heliocare 360 AK fluid spf 100 (purchased from a European website. Most filtered sunscreen I could find) followed by the Drmtlgy tinted Moisturizer spf 46 (thanks Dr Dray for this recommendation!) I follow up with the Make up forever HD pressed powder (tapping lightly over skin). It may sound like a lot but I have extremely fair skin so like to take every precaution. I layer the Heliocare and baby bum mineral spf 50 on the rest of my body. Unless it's boiling hot, I wear a zip up hoodie. Always wear sunglasses and sometimes a hat.

Three questions plz dr dray for future videos:
    1) what are some “actives” for eczema. I see sa, bpo for acne; tret for anti aging, and licorice root, kojic acid, etc for hyper pigmentation. What is the most useful “active” ingredients for eczema and itch? What about dishydrotic eczema on hands?
    2) please make a video on what the scientific literature says about the efficacy of allergy shots/immunotherapy for those with chronic, moderate to severe eczema
    3) what is Porokeratosis and how to treat if in the bottom of the foot
    ❤️ I sincerely appreciate it

@@db-gb5xi ive seen them all. My question was specifically regarding active ingredients that one should look for when purchasing products if we have eczema. The only ones I’m aware of is colloidal oatmeal, bleach, and probably niacinimide and panthenol. The numbing ingredient too in cerave itch relief is probably one too. Maybe ceramides, but not necessary? Anything additional that I’m missing dr dray?
Also, actinic keratosis is not the same as Porokeratosis, as far as I know.
Already saw the video on dishydrotic eczema-my question is more specific than her video.

I have been layering different brand sunscreens and SPFs on my face and body WITHOUT knowing if this method worked on not. I figured layering different sunscreens is better than not reapplying sunscreens.
Thank you Dr. Dray for shedding light on this topic and putting my mind at ease. Since discovering you two months ago, I have gone from NO sunscreen to using sunscreens on my face and body, AND reapplying at least three times a day. Because of all the benefits of using sunscreens ,I have even gotten used to the "shine" and "stickiness", something I really detested, but now know is a MUST.
