this album is pure sadness to me, especially because he was so heavy into his addiction at the time and his body and mind were suffering from illness and disorders and ontop of that was dealing with a very toxic unhealthy relationship. im so so HAPPY to see him happy and healthy now and being loved the way he is.

If you watch his very FIRST MTV interview (he's tiny like 13 looking 10ish) he says he hopes to shape his career around heavy R&B like "old Michael Jackson" (his words). His label is SO against it. They want strict pop :( you should've seen the twitter fights he had with his label when Journals dropped :( journals was not supported by Def Jam, they didn't even let billboard count his sales for it :( Scooter is the only one who supported and promoted this joint from their own pocket! then the label pulled it off purchase literally few months after it dropped. THIS is the music he always wanted to do, Def Jam just wont let him. R&B don't sell as much as pop and sadly JB is a powerhouse when it comes to POP music.
This album is 100% about toxicity in his life. he wanted love. He wasnt perfect. And neither was his significant other. Heartbreaker, all bad, bad day, whats hatnin, flatline. And every lyric really had that deep meaning. Flip flopping from a passionate side to a dark side. Also, he is in love now fully in a healthy committed relationship. He not making songs about toxic relationships no more. But he still got rnb songs out there and its his favorite genre of song.
Some of my favorite tracks from his album Journals are: All That Matters, Backpack ft Lil Wayne, Heartbreaker, PYD, Confident, Swap It Out, and What's Hatnin and also you have to remember that the album it is focused on themed like heartbreak, forgiveness, in a romantic relationship and another thing is that you also have to remember that he was 19 at the time and he getting his feet wet into dig into mature sound you know what I'm saying and also you have to remember hip-hop is the most dominant genre in the world because now you have pop, country even emo punk rock and stuff crossing over so I'm can't get upset of that because he playing with different sounds and beats that why he doing the same thing in his latest album Journals tho . 😌💙
