    I think the way you described post Arenas Wizards as "bunch of knuckleheads" is blowing things out of proportion... They were just bunch of young guys who were coming into their own. Javale McGee averaged 10/8 with great defense and over 2 blocks per game, and was seen as a great promising young player, and Nick Young, although he had a lot of questionable stuff around him, was a good scorer and role player.
    I may just be way too optimistic about Wizards and Wall, but there could perhaps be a way they could bounce back. Although John Wall is a guy who relies a lot on his athleticism, i can see the scenario where he goes Chris Paul route, where he changes his game in a way that makes him rely on athleticism less, while remaining a great floor general and solid defender. He doesn't quite have the IQ Paul possesses, but he is also bigger, which could help him tremendously on both ends of the court.

    Great vid and yes I am biased but I like to think that Beal and Wall potentially a longer window now than they did before. I’d like to categorize Bertans, Rui, Troy brown jr, Wagner, Napier as players who are good enough to contribute to a contending team. However, with that said they need a solution at center and another wing. Thomas Bryant is good offensively but doesn’t protect the rim well. AP gets me fired up but has a long way to go in his development. If they can get a veteran wing, center on cheap deals and a solid rookie (all big ifs) they could make some noise sooner than later

    Wall peaked and then the injuries piled on. They’ve have never had a modern center, their bench is suspect and always has been, they got rid of oubre too early. They’ve been looking for a real wing and a solid center for a decade and haven’t found either.

  • @Chocolouf

    The reason number 1, and weirdly absent in this video, should be the immaturity of its supposedly franchise player, John Wall. They reached their peak when Pierce was there, providing his playoff experience, veteran leadership and mentoring.
    Wall has been all about being gangsta, dishing 10+ empty assists per game and playing less and less defense years after years. I remember when his patented "John Wall defense" was the point about why he was the best all-around PG in the East.

    Honestly, The Wizards should've let Porter walk BEFORE they match the contract from Brooklyn, especially when Kelly Oubre was on the team and was in second year. The Wizards needed a bench and a coach. Scott Brooks was hired to lure KD and it didn't work. Getting Oubre was to also help bring in KD and he didn't even wanna interview with The Wizards. Ernie should've been gone after Gilbert Arenas gun fiasco.

  • @xavierd.3931
    @xavierd.3931 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Been watching the Wizards all my life and this is the most well-rounded and accurate analysis I’ve seen. The best help John and Brad ever had were Gortat, Nene, Ariza, and 37 year old Paul Pierce. Otto Porter would have nights where he’d drop 25 and then only shoot 3 shots the next night. I liked Kelly Oubre but he was inconsistent. Ian Mahinmi was a waste of $64 million. Ernie Grunfeld always traded first rounders for RENTALS that they never resigned. Scott Brooks doesn’t coach defense and that was obvious in OKC and definitely obvious now in DC. With that being said, I fully expect the Wizards to make the playoffs again next season. John will be back, Brad is coming off his best season ever, Bertans will re-sign, Rui is developing, and we’ll probably have a lottery pick to use. Tommy Sheppard, our new GM, said before the season that he didn’t expect the team to compete and this season was a season for retooling and adding depth and that’s exactly what we did. The team had a top 5 offense and the worst defense and the return of John Wall will definitely help the defense. I don’t think they’ll get past the Bucks, but they won’t be as bad as a lot make them out to be.
