Check out any of his live performances and be prepared to be amazed. He did an impromptu guest performance with a band singing "Man's World" by the late James Brown and the entire band had a man-crush on him. He also did in unrehearsed tribute to Prince at the end of one of his concerts only hours after Prince had died. He and the band had never played this song before. You can actually see Chris reading the music and the lyrics as he performs the song.

Agree with your point about Timberlake....a lot of his stuff is very pop-y.
That said, the CMA 2015 awards performance with Chris shows a different side to him....as does "Say Something"....
Janis Joplin (eg Summertime) and Marc Broussard (eg Cry To Me) are (were, in Janis' case) white vocalists who sound soulful and Stevie Ray Vaughan was amazing as a (white) blues guitarist...almost as good as Hendrix IMO...or Gary Clark Jnr...Adam Lambert isn't particularly bluesy, but some of his ballads are amazing (eg Isle of Wight Live - Who Wants To Live Forever)

So you know I’m a huge Chris Stapleton fan and can’t wait to see your reaction to whipping post by Chris, but if you want someone else that is soulful and blues vibe by arguably the greatest guitarist of all time you should give Stevie Ray Vaughan a listen, Texas Flood, and Voodoo Child would be a good start also listen to the live version of these songs his guitar playing will blow your hair back.
