Even having high quality archives takes thinking in the longview and i feel like that is M. Plus "leaking" them now keeps her "brand" fresh, interesting and alive. WOW. Even though its abstract sounds kept it from the success of her other singles, I think it's safe to say that of all her music videos, "Bedtime Story" remains the most powerful. It's definitely had the most response in the "reaction video" trend. To see that it would have been even darker had they used more of these ideas is fascinating. I must say I'm amazed the imagery of her opening her torso to reveal her organs didn't make it into the final cut; there was a fair amount of response on this album about how chastized she'd been in the public after the _Erotica_ era and I'm surprised she didn't see it as a way to make a bold statement about exposing herself even more after _Sex,_ her gorgeous book of erotic photos and art. Then again, had it been a bit too graphic, it likely would have ended up her third banned video after "Justify My Love" and "Erotica" (yes, let's not debate the specifics - I know "Erotica" wasn't entirely banned). What really strikes me about this video is that for all the years I've been studying it, it always seems to teach something new. I started reading about the concepts, theories, and practices behind lucid dreaming over the past few years. I never put two and two together until the next time I went to show someone this video and I saw "LUCID" appear on the lab monitor. It was revelatory to have discovered _another_ layer to the video. If anyone actually involved with the creation of "Bedtime Story" is involved with this channel or should read this comment, I applaud you. To contend with the amount of iconography in Madonna's other music videos had to have been a bit of a nightmare, but what you did stands out so boldly from every other moment in her storied career. You certainly won't catch yourself pondering the deeper meanings of the imagery we see in our dreams while watching "Material Girl" or "Music" and your work - especially the last shot where her features relocate on her face - will always send a chill to those who watch it. (I made the questionable decision to watch it while taking LSD in my younger years, but _that's_ another story for another time).
I can't even imagine how many more millions Madonna and Warner would have spent if the music video had all those storyboard scenes. At the time they said Bedtime Story cost 5 million dollars, but with these storyboard scenes in the video it should have cost 3 or 4 times that, I think, maybe that's why they gave up and selected just a few of the scenes.
the official video is wonderful, one of my favorites and one of her most beautiful ever... although... it's a real shame that she didn't use some of those discarded ideas in this storyboard... who knows why...
Amazing job bringing this masterpiece remastered! This storyboards bring somre insteresting ideas that are so fantastic to use on future Madonna videos 🤔
Directors usually make a "model" on paper what they want to represent in a video. And i think this is the model that Mark Romanek did before to direct the video.
